Handheld at 1/15 second wide open. It became very dark very suddenly in the last minute before totality, which lasted 1 minute 35 seconds at this location. Camera angle
reminiscent of "The Third Man" movie seemed necessary for the composition.
This little depression in the tundra collects spring meltwater and forms a pond which freezes every night. The pond might last for a month or two, long enough for wood frogs to breed and lay eggs, and tadpoles to mature into the next generation frogs. Wild iris will soon be blooming along the margins, and then in midsummer it will all probably dry up.

'In The Middle'
Featured is one of the six bridges connecting both sides of Dubai Marina development. Flowing lines, flashy architecture, vibrant and colourful lights, crazy urban design...what's not to like in such a cityscape?
This shot was taken in near darkness from a moving helicopter. I used Canon 5Dmk3 and Canon TS-E 24mm lens. I was going for a miniature effect so I set the lens to capture the image at the widest aperture in a fully tilted position.

In Wester Ross, where the River Ewe merges with the sea at Poolewe, these brackish waters on a receding tide hold, and reveal, many secrets.
Crouching patiently for a sundown shot, the stillness was only later broken by two otters feeding about 30 yards in front of me.
Sorry folks, I didn't have another camera and a big lens to capture that, but the wide angled long exposure displays the brilliant golden amber hues of the seaweed on the shoreline.
Many thanks as always for your views, and welcome comments.
There's a weird dichotomy in the weather this time of year. At this point the snow has melted, but winter has gone into temporary remission rather than full retreat. We get brilliant days filled with sunshine and magnificent skies, but tempered by extreme cold and wind. Looks can be deceiving as was the case this day. By the looks off it you'd think this was shirtsleeve weather suitable for a walk in the park. On the other side of the lens is me bundled in winter survival mode, wrapped head to foot and still feeling the penetrating cold wind. There's an eeriness to days like this that I've felt often. Massive, multi-acre burial grounds with not a single living soul except me. People tend not to venture out in extreme weather, yet time and again that's precisely what motivates me. This can be a very depleting experience, moving from grave-to-grave, absorbing a bit of sadness with each one. Reading gravestone inscriptions, studying the mementos and tributes, and seeing faces of the dead, literally dozens of them, in small cameo portraits left by loved ones. Smiling faces of people then full of life, now forever consigned to this place. It's very humbling. I paused for a while taking in this coppery-bronze painted statue of the Madonna. I was transfixed by the utter clarity of the day, like looking at life through a high def filter. And the eerie gaze of the baby Jesus upon me. In this moment my preoccupation with the freezing cold was forgotten.

I get asked a lot, "What is going on in your head?". Here you go. A little behind the scenes look during a recent repair.
Day 309
“MS Pride of America is a cruise ship operated by NCL America, a division of Norwegian Cruise Lines, to sail itineraries in the Hawaiian Islands. Construction of the ship began in 2000 in the United States as part of a plan for a U.S.-built and U.S.-flagged cruise ship under Project America, but the project failed and she was eventually purchased by Norwegian Cruise Lines and completed in Germany. She was inaugurated in 2005, and was the first new U.S. flagged, U.S.-built (aside from the outfitting) deep water passenger ship in nearly fifty years since the SS Argentina of 1958.”

I don't have to take a trip around the world or be on a yacht in the Mediterranean to have happiness. I can find it in the little things, like looking out into my backyard and seeing deer in the fields.

A hawk perched in a tree in Teton Valley, Idaho seems to be enjoying the beautiful sunrise over the Teton mountain range. The peak on the left is the Middle Teton and the peak behind the tree is the South Teton.
This isn't a wonderful photo, but it is so summery, and so common around our house, here, for fruits to be ripening in a bag, that I went ahead and posted it.
Those are some sort of green plums in there.. I had never seen them before, and I can't remember the name of them. If we love them, I am sure I will learn their name!
