This is the Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias). He measures 42-52 inches (105-130 cm) from beak-tip to tail-tip. He was found along a trail at Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland, Florida. They make a great photographic subject because they often pose for good lengths of time in interesting poses.

What on earth am I meant to do
In this crowded place there is only you
Was gonna to leave now I have to stay
You have taken my breath away
Is the world still spinning around
I don't feel like coming down
It's in your eyes
I can tell what your thinking
My heart is sinking too
It's no surprise
I've been watching you lately
I want to make it with you
Destiny has a funny way
When it comes and takes all your cares away
I can't think of a single thing
Other than what a beautiful state I'm in
Is the world still spinning around
I don't feel like coming down
It's in your eyes
I can tell what your thinking
My heart is sinking too
It's no surprise
I've been watching you lately
I want to make it with you

I was spending a lazy afternoon by the river in the woods. Only a little sunlight came through the branches to illuminate green velvety moss. It feels like time has stopped... Just me and this beautiful clean nature.
I need to get these paper wrinkles in a row………...almost done.

~ Happy SUNDAY to US ALL ~

From this morning's walk in the rain. Rain drops on the lens (seldom use the lens hood; virtual head slap), rain on my eyeglasses, rain blowing everywhere gently! Love it. Did put the camera and lens in an old plastic shield that did very little.
But the camera is old. We'll see just how weather-sealed it is, eh?
From the time a dragonfly egg hatches, it can live anywhere from six months to six years, but only about two months as an actual dragonfly. (fact, most of the time spent is as a nymph in the water before the dragonfly’s metamorphosis into a full grown dragonfly.)
In the old days, dragonflies would seek out bad kids and sew their mouths together with their claspers while they slept. Dragonflies were known as the devil’s darning needles. (myth – dragonflies don’t have pockets to carry the thread to the beds of sleeping wicked children.)

"Nope, still too deep", was my thought as I gingerly stepped off the main trail to test the snow again and promptly felt my snowshoes sink until I was well over knee deep in the fluffy whiteness, completely unable to maneuver. As I laboriously extracted my feet and turned around to once again return to the packed snow of the main trail, I was lamenting the depth and soft consistency of the snow.
I had been lured to the mountains by the massive amounts of new snow and the chance to do my first snowshoeing of the season during a brief break in the weather after two weeks of seemingly endless storms. Usually snowshoes offer the ability and advantage of being able to walk on top of the snow and venture off trail much more easily. But on this day, even with the addition of flotation tails, they were no match for the deep, soft snow, so my explorations (and photography angles) were limited to following the established path that others before me had trod.
With avalanche risk levels rated high in the backcountry that day, I made sure to choose a trail away from steep slopes and known avalanche terrain, one which winds its way through a lovely forest of snow-laden evergreen trees to the shore of Lake Keechelus on the eastern slopes of Snoqualmie Pass. When I arrived at the parking area and headed out on the trail, the landscape was shrouded in fog, obscuring the mountains in a thick layer of mist. But as I snowshoed through the hushed world of white, glimmers of light soon started to appear and by the time I was approaching the first views of the lake (depicted in this image), the clouds began to lift and the sky lightened, eventually clearing to a brilliant shade of blue.
The air was chilly by the lake as the wind blew off the freezing water and the layer of ice that had formed along the shore. But few others had ventured all the way to the lake so for most of the time I spent there I was alone in the expanse of a dazzling snowscape.
Possiamo spendere poche parole buone per l'estate appena trascorsa. Io non ho rimpianti. Ma il comune senso della misericordia consente comunque una frase di circostanza anche per lei: RIPOSA IN PACE!
*****
We can spend only few good words for this summer just past. I have no regrets. But the common sense of mercy still allows for a phrase of circumstance for her too: REST IN PEACE!

I was editing this shot and I was thinking, we all talk about how it is to see through the lens. It's a kind of magic, I know. But what it's like to hear through the lens? Do we? Or can we even? Hadn't thought of that before, until I got me this one photo.
You see, the camera sees everything, even what we don't, but it strips down the image from all the noise. Somehow it can disconnect the one from the other. It keeps only what is the essence of the moment. Like our minds, our memories, our thoughts, our hearts. I mean, you look at something and you may remember and feel how it sounded. You can even recreate it in your head, but you can't actually hear it, although you could swear you can! And that is some of photography's magic. And curse sometimes. It conveys but it doesn't perform. It can liberate image from sound!
And sometimes, it leaves you with yourself and your reflection, free to go ahead and put your own words to the world around you. Free to say all those things you never said. Free to shape the voice as you please. Free to create your own world within you. Free to hear the sound of silence. Lets you finally free...

Life isn't easy from the singular side
Down in the hole some emotions are hard to hide
It's your decision, it's the chance that you take
It's on your head, it's a habit that's hard to break
Do you need a friend, would you tell no lies
Would you take me in, are you lonely in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
You never listen to the voices inside
They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide
You're never sure if the illusion is real
You pinch yourself but the memories are all you feel
Can you break away from your alibies
Can you make a play, will you meet me in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark, ah ah ah
Don'tcha need me, hey, hey
Don'tcha need me, oh yea
Don'tcha need me, hey, hey
Don'tcha need me, oh yea
You take no interest, no opinion's to dear
You make the rounds and you try to be so sincere
You guard your hopes and you pocket your dreams
You'd trade it all to avoid an unpleasant scene
Can you face the fire when you see me there
Can you feel the fire, will you love me in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark, ah ah ah ah

*Süntelbuche im Herbst*
Last Wednesday I drove to the northern Eifel to catch a few autumn moods. Fortunately, the over 200 year old dwarf beech tree on a Celtic burial mound near Blankenheim still had a few autumn-colored leaves ... and occasionally the sun came out.

There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room
In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room
Do my dreaming and my scheming
Lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday
Now it's dark and I'm alone
But I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

Traditional Norwegian house interior from the 17th-18th centuries. This one is one of a series that recreates the farmstead of Bjørnstad, in Lalm, Lalm, Vågå (where most of the buildings made the move to this open-air museum at Maihaugen, Lillehammer, Norway - but not all of them). This one is from the inside of "Nystua" (the new cottage), originally built in 1787. The girl is one of the museum guides, dressed in traditional clothes.
