This session will be an introductory session to the Sixth Mediterranean Forest Week and present the current situation regarding the role of Mediterranean forests in global commitments (including targets on LDN and Aichi targets) and the role of LULUCF in implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the Mediterranean countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is hosting the Sixth edition of the Mediterranean Forest Week (VIth MWF) at the Grand Hills Hotel, Broumana, on 1–5 April 2019. The weeklong event brings together policy and decision makers, forest administrators, researchers, practitioners, donors, civil society organizations, and social and environmental based non–governmental organizations to share and promote the use of forest–based solutions to assist Mediterranean countries in the implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

Este gran paso se da hoy cuando el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible comienza en todo el país la Gran Sembratón, una iniciativa de su programa Respira 2030.
Este proyecto se suma a otras acciones de Grupo Éxito para el cuidado del planeta, como la Carbononeutralidad del formato fresh market de Carulla, ser el primer retail en implementar un modelo de ganadería sostenible, la migración a sistemas de refrigeración natural, la implementación de un sistema de energía renovable y del modelo de posconsumo Soy Re, entre otros.

Un árbol adulto puede captar más de 15.000 litros de agua al año y puede albergar cientos de especies de insectos, hongos, musgos, mamíferos y plantas, así que sembrar un millón de árboles, que es equivalente a 625 canchas de fútbol, entre todas y todos los colombianos, contribuirá a la remoción de alrededor de 166.000 toneladas de CO2e cada año, lo que equivale a compensar la huella de carbono de 5500 colombianos en el mismo tiempo. Como compañía, donaremos 500.000 árboles que se traducen en oportunidades para el país y para el planeta”, afirmó Carlos Mario Giraldo Moreno, presidente del Grupo Éxito.
Otro gran aporte
Para cumplir con la meta de un millón de árboles y proteger los ecosistemas estratégicos del país, Celsia se une como aliado sembrando 500.000 árboles más y contribuyendo con la operación de la siembra del total de los árboles, a través de su programa ReverdeC, con el que, desde el 2016, han sembrado más de nueve millones de árboles, nueve especies en categoría de amenaza, han restaurado 4990 hectáreas y han vinculado a las comunidades de las mismas regiones.
“ReverdeC es un programa voluntario de Celsia, empresa de energía de Grupo Argos, que comenzó en 2016 luego de que el país pasara por uno de los fenómenos del Niño más fuertes y los caudales de los ríos se vieron afectados. Fue así como nos pusimos la meta de sembrar 10 millones de árboles en 10 años para restaurar las cuencas de los ríos. Comenzamos en el Valle del Cauca en alianza con la Corporación Autónoma del Valle del Cauca (CVC), y con los años nos hemos extendido a otros departamentos, especialmente Antioquia y Tolima. Vamos a cumplir la meta de manera anticipada porque ya estamos cerca de los 10 millones de árboles sembrados y con este proyecto al que hoy nos unimos a Grupo Éxito de Un Árbol a la Vez, superaremos la meta, que no es nuestra sino de Colombia, porque la restauración y el compromiso con el planeta debe ser de todos”, expresó Marcelo Álvarez, líder de Generación de Celsia.
#UnÁrbolALaVez, en el Día Mundial de la Tierra
La campaña ‘Recuperemos el Verde: #UnÁrbolALaVez’ nace en el marco del Día de la Tierra, que se celebra hoy, para dar inicio oficial a la siembra de un millón de árboles, como una forma de generar conciencia en las personas y facilitar la recuperación del verde en el país. La donación se habilitará en los puestos de caja de los almacenes Éxito, Carulla, Surtimax, Super Inter y Surtimayorista o en Exito.com y Carulla.com. Cada árbol tendrá un valor de $3300 o 472 Puntos Colombia.
Un impulso a Respira 2030, del Minambiente
Esta gran movilización de la siembra de un millón de árboles cuenta con el aval del Minambiente, que tiene el compromiso de sembrar árboles nativos en el país, con el fin conservar, recuperar y promover la restauración de los ecosistemas deforestados y degradados por medio del programa Respira 2030.

“Agradecemos al Grupo Éxito y a la Fundación Celsia, lo mismo que a las demás empresas que están sumando a la meta de sembrar 180 millones de árboles porque su compromiso con el medio ambiente es un ejemplo. Ya son más de 118 millones de árboles reportados en el contador del Ministerio. Es una realidad que con el apoyo de los más de 400 aliados que tenemos del programa estamos logrando educar a las comunidades, restaurar las áreas degradadas y conservar los ecosistemas. El sector empresarial debe ir cambiando sus prácticas hacia unas más sostenibles, de tal manera que toda la sociedad se beneficie con una mejor calidad de aire, entre otros factores, y el país avance hacia sus metas, dos de las cuales, además de la siembra de árboles, son reducir en un 51 % las emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero al 2030 y alcanzar la Carbononeutralidad al 2050. Es una prioridad para el señor presidente Iván Duque y en equipo la estamos logrando”, dijo Carlos Eduardo Correa, ministro de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible.
Los árboles de especies nativas serán sembrados, según el ecosistema en:
Cuenca del río Riofrío (Valle del Cauca): Esta cuenca reúne los municipios de Riofrío, Trujillo y Bolívar, cuenta con diferentes ecosistemas como el bosque seco, el bosque húmero y un páramo donde nace el río que le da su nombre.
Cuenca del río Garrapatas (Valle del Cauca): Abarca los municipios de Versalles, El Dovio, Bolívar, Roldanillo, La Unión, El Cairo y La Argelia; en ella se encuentran ecosistemas como el bosque seco, bosque húmero y bosque húmedo montano y sus ríos abastecen a más de 110.000 habitantes.
Cuenca del río Combeima (Tolima): Esta cuenca es una de las más importantes del Tolima, ya que abastece a cerca del 80 % de la población del municipio de Ibagué (+420.000 personas) para actividades domésticas e industriales. La conforma el municipio de Ibagué y contiene parte del Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados.
Con las autoridades ambientales de Antioquia (Corantioquia y Cornare): ambas empresas están identificando las zonas para siembra. Asimismo, se está contemplado en la estrategia que algunos de los árboles puedan llegar a otras zonas del país. / Abr. 22, 2022.
