This weekend I made a trip to Bulgaria with 5 other friends Darren, Richie, James, Daniel, Adam to return to the mountain of Buzludzha to photograph the beautiful Buzludha, a former communist monument at 1441 metres high. The monument was built in 1981 but has fallen into disrepair and is no longer looked after by the Bulgarian government.
We spent three days at the monument and each day would bring a change in climate. On day two over night it tipped down with snow and we woke to a foot of it, it made the km walk to the top of the mountain a test of endurance to reach the monument of the second day. My wonderful friends helped me carry costumes up the mountain so I could photograph Dorina inside. It poured down with rain, lightning strikes around us and below freezing conditions. It was the best feeling to finally get back to the hostel and rest infant of the fire.
I first photographed the monument in 2012 and it became the cover of my book Soviet Ghosts. It was amazing to re visit and join Nicola and Jonathan who had first taken me there and also Dorina (who came with Ivan her boyfriend) who meet up with us for two of the days so I could photograph her in the monument of my Underworld series.
The whole weekend was an incredible experience, full of fun, laughs, determination and in some times pain from hiking up a mountain in knee deep snow. It is an experience surrounded by friends that I will never forget.

“When you're socially awkward, you're isolated more than usual, and when you're isolated more than usual, your creativity is less compromised by what has already been said and done. All your hope in life starts to depend on your craft, so you try to perfect it. One reason I stay isolated more than the average person is to keep my creativity as fierce as possible. Being the odd one out may have its temporary disadvantages, but more importantly, it has its permanent advantages.” - Criss Jami, Killosophy
An abandoned Castle in Italy in the process of being rescued Non Plus Ultra.
We had been told this beautiful castle in Italy would be a hard one to crack, we made it there early in the morning, only to be surprised by a crowd waiting outside to go in. This castle has been derelict for many years, but once a year its gates are opened so the public can look inside and we had chosen that day to try and get inside. It made our life easier as we joined the tour group and then subsequently got lost inside while they followed the room by room tour.
I have wanted to see this building from the 1600's for years, since I first gazed on its magnificent abandoned beauty in some friends photos. It did not disappoint, room upon room of detail, elegance and decoration like in this one.

Got some very light snow going today. I hope it picks up over the weekend, could get some nice shots for the project! As for this shot, it was a total fluke!
Drifting through the darkness of Cepheus, the Wolf’s Cave Nebula (LDN 1217) emerges as a spectral cloud of dust and gas, shrouded in cosmic mystery. This faint region, illuminated by scattered starlight, is a quiet yet captivating expanse where interstellar winds shape intricate structures hidden within the void.
Dark nebulae like this are dense clouds of cosmic dust that block and scatter visible light from the stars behind them, creating the illusion of empty space. But within these cold, shadowy regions, the raw materials for future stars and planets gather over millions of years. Some areas reflect nearby starlight, forming striking blue-hued reflection nebulae, while others remain obscured, visible only in infrared wavelengths. These vast molecular clouds are the quiet architects of the universe, slowly shaping the galaxies we see today.

Llanddwyn Island is named after St Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Legend has it that she was spurned by a prince and retreated heartbroken to the island. There she was granted three wishes, and asked to be given the power to grant the wishes of true lovers.

We visited all 7 of the magnificent 7 cemeteries in London. Made up of Kensal Green, West Norwood, Highgate, Abney Park, Nunhead, Brompton and Tower Hamlets.
They were built to try and fight the overcrowding of cemeteries in the 1800's as decaying body matter was getting into the water streams and causing epidemics.

This narrowband (Hα) image of CG4 was captured as the first light with my new telescope. I’ve cropped the frame to showcase the most distinctive region, often referred to as “The Galaxy Eater”, because it appears to be devouring a small galaxy.
Due to recent weather constraints, I haven’t been able to collect LRGB data yet. To bring the monochrome view to life, I’ve applied a false-color palette that highlights the intricate details of the nebula.
I hope you enjoy this interpretation, and thank you for your support!
“Over the course of my life I've been to lots of places. Shadowed places where things have gone wrong. Sinister places where things still are. I always hate the sunlit towns, full of newly built developments with double-car garages in shades of pale eggshell, surrounded by green lawns and dotted with laughing children. Those towns aren't any less haunted than the others. They're just better liars.” - Kendare Blake

'On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it.' -
Jules Renard.
One day on our trip to Italy we visited the abandoned island of Poveglia near Venice. A place of tragedy and death. For a long time it was used as a hospital and quarantine station for plague victims and converted into an asylum for the mentally ill and for long time care.
These days its hard to find Italians who will take you to the island, it is patrolled occasionally by police boats and with many people being superstitious they believe the island is haunted.
I managed to persuade a lovely lady to drop us of by boat and return for us 6 hours later (that was a lot of trust or it would have been a long swim back again).
Walking around the massive undergrowth on my own was surreal, but peaceful at the same time. Natures song all around me it was hard to imagine the amount of death that had happened on this tiny island. As i walked across the connecting bridge to the burning grounds, I was remained of the spine chilling stories of this mass burning site where so many had been burned.

The Tree That Grew Within
From an abandoned hospital in Italy
“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.” ― William Blake
