April 1975, Belgium's Queen Fabiola visits the previous offices of De Schutter in the 'Venusstraat' Antwerp for a royal approval of the publication. De Schutter published a very prestigious fascimile (reproduction) of the books of P.J. Redouté about roses.
One of the two founders of the company, Carl De Schutter shows the companies work with pride.
Pierre-Joseph Redouté was a French artist of the late 18th and early 19th century. For the images in his famous book of prints, Les Roses, Redouté mastered the unusual technique of stipple engraving--the use of tiny dots, rather than lines. This made possible the subtle variations in coloring for which his work is known.

I’m posting this one for my friend Tom, who wanted to see the original version of The Sign. This is as close as is humanly possible to the scene as recorded by my camera (Canon 20D). It’s the raw file, with even the auto adjustments turned off in Photoshop’s raw converter – i.e., it’s not the onboard processed jpeg that many people download from their digital camera. The only unavoidable manipulations occurred when I resized and converted the image to a jpeg in order to post it to flickr, and any processing flickr adds when we upload our images (like their sharpening process).
And so, for me, that raises an interesting question: Is this what the scene “really” looked like? Is this the “true” image?

Used GIMP 2.4 (Linux) to distort a personal photograph into a kaleidoscope. The frame is beveled and drop shadowed with xach effect.
Day 11 of 365
Figured I'd have a little fun tonight with my 365 shot tonight (and I didn't want to overdo the Magritte's that I have been doing - more on the way, but taking a small break).
I took this shot specifically for the T-Shirts! thread, but I guess it also fits in the Movie Stars mini challenge as well (Darth Vader is a movie star, right?). I have several t-shirts that I really love (well more than several now that I think about it). This happens to be one of my current favorites. I came across this one while browsing through Threadless and just had to have it.
I expect that I'll do several more t-shirt shots during the 365 Days, but I wanted to start with one of my favorites. The other one that I know I will definately do requires a few props that I don't happen to have handy, so I've been holding off on that one.

Since the theme of the week is “worry”, I wanted to show off a series of direct mail pieces that I concepted and illustrated. The illustrations were created using Illustrator and Photoshop as a photomontage. However, my favorite part is the powerful copywriting that engages the senses. I included an excerpt.
You’re lost in the Amazon. “Armed” with a flashlight. And you’ve got company.
The night is alive. It creeps. It slithers. It glides effortlessly awaiting your next breath. Your skin crawls. And without warning, your one beacon in the jungle ink–like a dying ember–flickers out. Darkness drops like a curtain. Panic prods you to run. Reason reminds you that a merciless river snakes its way between you and safety. The water ripples. The branches constrict. Uncertainty reigns. Yet you needn’t succumb to the “safety” of inaction–where one’s lack of choosing ultimately decides one’s fate. Before all means of escape are inextricably closed off, proactively face the unforeseen by creating a sustainable plan for survival.

I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens ev'ry day

one of the spiders that take up residence in out-of-the way corners of the house, before I "set him free" off the back porch.
I shot the photo of him backlit against a window at a high ISO, which gave me lots of juicy noise --further enhanced with More noise and some colors/effects in Adobe Photoshop CS2.
