359/365. There's no escape from editing...
This photo sums up for me all those hours spent over the last year editing ridiculous photos of myself in Photoshop.

Blueberries near the lake we stayed near this past summer. Converted to B/W, then a Duotone plugin was applied via the Gimp 2.4. Best viewed large. In the "cup" at the end of the main berry you can see a small amount of water reflecting a tree, some clouds and the sun.
Yann is shot against a neutral grey background and then it's all composited in with it's new background in Photoshop, layered and blended, with use of photo filters to give everything an overall balanced colour cast to help everything sit together.

I made some basic enhancements (see below) during the Raw file conversion in Photoshop, then added minimal suggestions of depth/space, as well as suggestions of the winds that brought the once-lushly-pastel Hydrangea blossom to this state...using the Render>Clouds filter with noise added, and multiple Motion Blur passes with Fades... also some hue/saturation play and masking on that created background layer.
I was very drawn to the translucency in the curled up leaves most of all.
Siempre digo que no sé donde estará Barbie, pero..., ¡yo la vi caer desde la planta 29!
Aunque nunca se sabe, jamás apareció el cadáver...
Erotic in the sense that this image imparts to me, while viewing it, the full essence of life, as one might see another beautiful being, flower, vegetable, animal, etc, for it's own inherent attractiveness. Whether it is of our own kind or something out of our normal sphere of society.
For instance, the first time I was in SouthEastern Asia it took me a short time to discard my western orieneted idea(s) of beauty, fully changing my fundamental way of looking at, people, place, plants, things, etc.
In other words I was no longer provincially United States oriented. I would say American, instead of United States, but there is quite a difference between the U.S. and the rest of the Americas. At least in my mind.
For instance; if we were all in outer space, but relatively close to Earth, why would we think that automatically North America would be at the top of the globe? Having worked as the Photographer of Fine Arts at the Blanton Museum of Fine Art at The University of Texas at Austin for 18 years, I have been exposed to a lot of work by artists from Latin-america. The Museum has the largest collection of Latin-American Art in the United States. Many of the artists came to install their works personally and I had a behind the scenes chance to talk and listen to them. Some of the works changed my view point as in the "outer space reference".
Something to think about, no?
I'll light the fire
You place the flowers in the vase
That you bought today
Staring at the fire
For hours and hours
While I listen to you
Play your love songs
All night long for me
Only for me

Thought I'd post another before/after picture...
(the right one is the 'after' in case you didn't notice)
(1) HDR (from three different RAW files, handheld) + tone mapping (Photomatix)
(2) transform→distort to straighten the whole thing up a bit.
(3) added the sky (I started to collect good sky shots for such occasions)
I used the blend mode 'screen' and only masked out the immediate foreground; for the background I just let the sky fade out towards the bottom, that's why these buildings look a bit more hazy. Because the sky I had wasn't HDR I applied the shadow/highlights function.
Doesn't sound much, but that masking was quite a job actually...
And that's it.
Rebuilt in 1764, this lovely church is nestled in amongst the trees of Castle Eden Dene. It has been recently under threat of closure due to lack of car parking facilities and repair costs, which is a shame.
Actually, a recently digitally modified old image of a prop from the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, the movie in which we learn that Robin Hood, Azeem the Moor, and most of the Merry Men spoke with American accents. Erroll Flynn had tried to prepare us for this decades ago, but back then sound itself was such a novelty in movies that no one noticed accents. Sean Connery would have us believe Robin was Scottish.
The sword was displayed thus in the garden of Griff Thomas, visited years ago at the Duchess in Topsham. (...and a very pleasant visit it was. Thanks, Griff!) Game of Thrones has given such images new life. Valerian steel has an ageless appeal.
Some promo work for Chris and Yann. These boys make up the Rockabilly Duo 'The Bonneville Barons' who have one foot firmly in the vintage era, with the costumes to match.
Like the Sarah-Jane shoot. I shot the boys against a grey background and composited them into the scene incorporating various photoshop techniques to enhance contrast and the 'dodge and burn' look.

"TOE-NEEE SCHTARK, MAZES YA FEEL HESH THE COOLLLL EXEC WIT' THE HEART OF SCHTEEL..."
("Sure, there was a bit of a dust-up in the Green Room before he came into the studio, I thought it was just a fan thing. y'know? He seemed okay to put to air. How was I to know he'd had an armoured skinful? Right-o, he was walking as crooked as a dog's hind leg but I just I thought his gyros were playing silly buggers! I mean, I've heard the rumours about his boss, Mr Stark, but I had no idea his bodyguard was on the turps as well!"*)
BU' IRON MAN, ALL JETSCH AFLAME HE FIGHTS 'N FIGHTS WIT' RE-RE-REPULSIVE RAYS...!"
("Too bloody right I turned the microphone off, when he started to sing... but he overrode it with some bastard of a gadget in that damn armour of his. Strewth, he was just supposed to have a yarn with me about Stark International's recent charitable donation to the Hanso Foundation's DHARMA Initiative...say, you don't reckon I could sue Stark for this, do you? "*)
*From Broadcaster Robert Jan's statement to the Media Watch monitoring programme during investigations into the so-called "Irongate" on-air incident, when Iron Man ran amok during a live transmission of an episode of the Zero-G radio show on Melbourne's 3RRR FM.

I took this one on the spur of the moment when opportunity presented itself. Just ambient, on-location lighting in the studio.
I deliberately broke two of the 'rules' of realistic toy photography of course.
1) Thou shalt not film from an elevated angle 'cos it makes them look like the toys they are since that's the way we normally see them.
2) Thous shalt not film them with normal scale objects 'cos it emphasises their toyness.
The conventional way to do this shot would have been to have the figure large in the foreground to create a forced perspective so that I.M looked 1:1 scale with the studio. Or to enlarge him as a seperate Photoshop layer.
Reckon this way was funnier all round.
Uh, yes, I did happen to have an Ultimates Iron Man figure in my bag..what of it?
I was talking about the new Iron Man movie and I like to have props when I broadcast...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The 3D model of the bar you see here nearly killed my Mac. I purchased this model from the Daz website. I tried for hours to render this sucker out in Daz 3D and it crashed every time. Then tried to render it in Poser and couldn't get any joy. Finally, in desperation I tried to export it into Bryce and bingo. Took some mucking about with lighting but after a 2 hour render I got something I could use.

I liked the one little perfect while blossom and the reddish swooshes of the "wasp that got away", but Still, it was a perfect composition for adding an "amazing circle".
I followed the procedure, first, as outlined here: brilliantdays.com/archives/2005/10/how_to_create_a.php ,

I Am using the basic wondrous polar coordinates transformations as beautiful in and of themselves, but also as starting points for grounding them in their origins and/or creating new relationships for them.
"In the evening of my life I shall look to the sunset,
At a moment in my life when the night is due.
And the question I shall ask only I can answer.
Was I brave and strong and true?
Did I fill the world with love my whole life through?"

Someday you’re gonna realize
One day you’ll see this through my eyes
By then I won’t even be there
I’ll be happy somewhere
Even if I cared
I know you don’t really see my worth
You think you’re the last guy on earth
Well I’ve got news for you
I know I’m not that strong
But it won’t take long
Won’t take long (cause)
Someday someone’s gonna love me
The way I wanted you to need me
Someday someone’s gonna take your place
One day I’ll forget about you
You’ll see, I won’t even miss you
Someday someday
Right now I know you can tell
I’m down and I’m not doing well
But one day these tears they will all run dry
I won’t have to cry, sweet goodbye

I had some more fun playing around with this one. To me, the art is in the details, like the tree in front of the rear tire and the dust under the front of the truck.
This truck was helping with fighting wildfires in Idaho in August 2007, and the fire behind it was encroaching on the town of Warren, Idaho. Click HERE to see the original photo of the actual engine.
