Transforming of ice into water as it reaches a certain temperature threshold.
Not my usual type of photo, but it was a fun creative exercise for Our Daily Challenge Group. Today's topic is Threshold.

This isn't real ice, it's a little acrylic ice cube I picked up somewhere. I was just using it to test lighting, but I really liked how it turned out. You can kind of see the heart-shaped aperture reflections too.
This was trickier than it looks: I picked a broken SMD package i had desoldered from some harddrive a few weeks ago and placed that on a icecube. That was the easy part. Originally i planned to set this up on a mirror, but as we are experencing 36deg. Celsius here, the whole icecube started melting an movin on the mirror, so i could not get the focus where i wanted it to be. After some minutes of tinkering, i gave up and put a papertowel under the icecube. This towel had a red imprint on it, which leads to the ice showing that strange hue.
Apart from that, it is shot through the retro-sled, thus having almost no usable exif-data. I hand-fired a flash to the lower right, very close to the object, to get some nice reflections

This two icecubes were lighted from the right side by a flash. To get the red color I used a tic tac-box.

This weekend I went with four co-workers of mine for a little trip, we stayed at a summerhouse at Kirkjubæjarklaustur in South Iceland. We had a great time, an took few photos as well...
This is my take on the PacWest Center (also known as the Icecube Building). It’s a great comp for black and white processing because it’s already black & white (Okay, it’s black & silver).
