We had leftover cooked macaroni, and so I took some of chicken-broth icecubes from the fridge and made Hong Kong style "Macaroni in hot broth" (雞湯通心粉) for breakfast. But instead of ham, I put in leftover turkey breast (火雞通粉)..
Photo was taken at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, Antarctica during the 2014 Winter season.
The photo shows these giant empty spools that used to hold cable for Ice Cube's DOM array system. Their DOMs (Digital Optical Modules I think) hang down thousands of feet into the ice. They are used to detect neutrinos.

While walking between IceCube Lab and the station here at South Pole one has an impressive view on the Milky Way. This time with the South Pole Telescope in the foreground.

I did others with blue gels but preferred this.
What an amazing aurora-horizon-glow we had today here at South Pole. The Milky Way with the galactic center was just between the IceCube Lab (left) and the DSL and MAPO (right) buildings.
The auroras are coming again here at the IceCube Lab at the geographic South Pole. This week is the last very dark week, before the Moon comes up again and the first Sun rays will be visible at the horizon.
Since a couple of days the Moon is up at the South Pole. Finally the weather cleared up what allowed this image of the Moon and the IceCube Lab building at Sunset.
Han Solo frozen in Carbonite. This scene appeared in the second and third Star Wars films., (episodes 5 & 6), The title is his reply when princess Leia tells him she loved him.
In reality, this is a latex ice cube mold which had spent the day in the freezer in preparation for the photo shoot, sadly, no matter how quickly I tried to take the shot the melting process had already dissipated the frost build up. The Mold is 2.25 inches x 1 inch and is 1 of 9 in the tray.
Macro Mondays, theme # Cold
There are times one just needs to
create with what's at hand . . .
in this case, an ice maker that won't shut off . . .
and being Sliders Sunday,
this was fun to manipulate!
Located on the South coast of Iceland, Black Diamond Beach is known for being scattered with ice cubes. They come from Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, located right behind.
Looking Close... on Friday: Not a Real One
Pixie and I had a lot of fun taking this picture, especially Pixie who is fascinated by that strange, cold, solid-but-liquid thing.
Captured for Macro Mondays group - August 10th - theme "water"
Choosed frozen water: an icecube with a contained blossom is melting away
Macro Mondays' theme this week is Hot/Cold. I found the tiniest VERY hot pepper I could- and Look what it is doing to this ice cube!!!
HMM!!
Tonight, well, it's always night these days here at South Pole, we IceCube winter-overs had to go out to the IceCube-Lab building to fix some broken hardware. While walking the one mile out there, we saw some amazing aurora displays. So I set up my camera for doing a time-lapse and used that opportunity to take a hero shot :o)
This image was created as part of a weekly challenge with the theme of Hot/Cold by the Macro Mondays group on FLICKR. Essentially, the challenge was to take a macro of something either hot, cold or both hot and cold. As I did not want to do another macro of a hot fudge sundae (healthier pix? lol), I decided to try the hot and cold.
UPDATE: 2016-06-21: This image hit EXPLORE at #134. Thanks to all of you who stopped by to view, fave, or comment!

I was lacking inspiration and props for photos today and did not come across anything too interesting while out and about today so after dinner I offered Nard a drink and then like the terrible host I am, proceeded to use the opportunity to shoot a few photos.
Anyway, Thursday done, one more day this week and then weekend time! Can't wait!
Hope everyone has had a good day.

This is a photo of a melting ice cube on a plate, with light from an LED lantern refracting through it.
Strobist info This was lit with one Speedlite 430EX on on the left fired through the white acrylic and a yellow gel at 1/8th power and another one at 1/4th power and with a blue gel on the right side. Both were triggered with a 580EX II on the camera. The high speed sync was necessary to freeze the moment and maintain a wide open aperture.
Post processing Cropping, slight exposure adjustments and graduated colorization were applied in Adobe Camera Raw 5.2. No further editing.
It became a bit foggy today at South Pole, which allowed to take this image of the IceCube Lab building in the mist at sunset. The Sun is only a few degrees above the horizon and will set in a couple of days for the next six months.
Today we had some very pretty aurora displays here at South Pole. It seems to get better from day to day :)
finally got round to photographing the rose icecubes i made 3 weeks ago...unlike the blue icecubes i made in january which are still in the freezer! - this should've been saturdays photo but i've been in bed feeling sorry for myself all weekend....
