Tonight I went out to the IceCube Lab building here at South Pole. I got lucky and saw this very nice aurora just above the building.
Sabor, olor, color, es todo tan refrescante. El color cálido en otoño y alegre en verano..
A mi me encantan las naranjas!!
This is a picture of an artistic model of the IceCube neutrino detector at the South Pole, displayed in the Reaktorhalle of the Technische Universität Munich. The artist build this model with light and sound effect. Unfortunately, it didn't display real science, but an own interpretation of the artist of a neutrino detection. It was quite different to a real one. At least it made up for a nice picture ;)
The IceCube Lab here at South Pole contains a computer cluster that collects neutrino astronomy science data taken with a one-cubic-kilometer sized neutrino detector array deployed deep in the glacial ice. At sunset, which happens only once a year at South Pole, the building is glowing in a great yellow-orange light.
The project for the week is to make a photograph where the subject is two things that belong together such as a lock and key or are improved when paired together such as chocolate and coffee. In other words, "goes together like _TEA______ and ICE".
If you seek inspiration, type "goes together like" into your search engine of choice.

Today we had some very strong auroras here at South Pole. They were nice and bright above the DarkSector.
I have always avoided using plastic ice cubes... but they are actually an advantage if you do not want to dilute your drink... they resist melting :-)
SSC - Cubes
Must confess they are plastic "ice" cubes, I think they fit the bill quite well.Taken on an acrylic reflective surface with just low side light from the window and general ambient light.
Last night I took a 3000 image timelap from the roof of the IceCube Lab building. This image is one of those. The actual timelap video will come later, once our broken faster Internet connection is fixed again.
When walking back from the IceCube Lab to the station here at South Pole, I saw this magnificent aurora with the Milky Way above it. The building in the lower left is MAPO which hosts the Keck Array CMB telescope.
... yes, one more ice capture for the theme ... ;))
I put some dried berries and coloured peppercorns in the ice cube tray when filling it with water ... these are the berries, a little bit thawed (the peppercorns really didn't work). I used a blue-toned LED-light to produce the blue colour of the icecube.
My first attempt to take a rather low key macro...
for Macro Mondays - theme of December 10th, 2018: vowel - meaning: photographing something that starts with a vowel (the letter a, e, i, o, u)
width of this capture: between 2 and 2.5 cm - the berries are 0.5 to 0.6 cm and the round icecube is 4 cm in diameter
Happy Macro Monday everyone!!
Thanks a lot for taking a look at my capture and for your feedback. I appreciate it very very much : ))

The Dark Sector at South Pole houses three main science buildings: MAPO, SPT and IceCube.
Huge news recently came from a project housed in SPT (South Pole Telescope). The project, BICEP2, discovered evidence of the rapid expansion of the universe (essentially lingering gravity waves from the Big Bang). SPT is the building in the back with the huge telescope. The building in the foreground is MAPO and looks at similar things as SPT does.
Ice Cube is not in the image. Ice Cube has hundreds of 'doms' in the ice that detect neutrinos.
Dodging the Ice blocks along the beach at Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon was pretty awesome and a little scary at times. I had read that photographers had been injured, washed out to sea and tripod legs broken as the freak waves hurled the invisible bergs up the black sandy shore. The ice size varied from tiny 'glassy marbles' to life size 'see-thru' cars. On occasions it was a matter of 'take the shot' and run for your life ; honestly !
Thank you for your views and comments.
For the macro mondays theme : Glass
Thank you for your time, faves and comments, It's much appriciated
I'm sorry, I'm too busy with Enjoying my holidays, so It's not a very well thought subject for this weeks assignment. Just my holiday-mood-drink: a glass of aperol spritz. 😊
