The RV Sikuliaq is an American research vessel owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. Built in 2014 by Marinette Marine Corporation in Marinette, Wisconsin, the $200 million versel named after the Iñupiaq word for "young sea ice" and pronounced "see-KOO-lee-auk", will be homeported in Seward, Alaska.

Cold As Ice
Foreigner
You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price, I know
I've seen it before
It happens all the time
You're closing the door
You leave the world behind
You're digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you'll pay
Shot taken early in the morning in Weston, Kansas. There was a nice covering of ice on all the trees this morning, making for a very scenic drive through the countryside!
Despite the cold, I like the winter for its creation of beautiful Ice sculptures. Happy weekend ;-))
We just had a streak of almost two weeks with extremely cold weather and that can tend to cause strange things to happen on the shore.
Looking for some ice in the fridge. One never knows what will spark inspiration 😎📷
Happy Thursday Monochrome !
Just near the outlet of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, chunks of floating ice were brought to the beach by tidal waves.
Little patches of the ice sheet were melting, and the water was reflecting the surrounding vegetation (I think). The 'design's looked very much like Rennie Mackintosh, to me.
This ice jam went 20 feet on to the beach - there was that much strength pushing it ashore. In 3 days it got warmer, the winds changed and it was gone!
First came the sleet and ice! Pretty... but too much of it and the tree branches were breaking, along with making travel dangerous!
Thank you for your visit! :)
It's going to be an interesting week here at Keefer Lake. It will be well above zero during the day and then plummeting below zero again at night. These are ideal conditions for ice fog, both in the morning and potentially in the evening as well ... this photo was taken last year under similar conditions. For my friends who don't know 'ice fog' ... it is a wondrous phenomena and you should put 'experiencing' it on your 'bucket list.'
Other photos from the same morning are in the first comment box.

My favorite sculpture I saw during the 2023 Ice Fest in Carlisle, PA.
This carving looked so much like glass to me. The intricate work really takes this to the next level.
The sculptor is unknown.

On May 12 it's ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia International Awareness Day. May 12 was chosen as it coincided with the birth date of Florence Nightingale, the celebrated English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale became chronically ill in her mid-thirties after returning from the Crimean War; the M.E.-like illness often left her bedridden during the last 50 years of her life.
Many of my our friends here at Flickr suffer with this and other chronic afflictions . For the fifth year in a row the Smile on Saturday challenge has been "BLUE FOR YOU - ME 2023". The challenge is sending positive vibes to not only the people here at Flickr who suffer from that disease, but anyone who is in pain, physically or mentally. Please know we are thinking of you!
Happy Saturday!
