As the temperature outside has climbed closer to three digits, I started thinking about how I wish for ice or snow on days like these. The more I thought about it, I found I agree with Niels Bohr's statement.

On April 5th we were hit with an ice storm. While from this photo taken on the 6th it does not appear as though it was very serious, it managed to take out most of the electricity on the Montreal island for the next three days. There are still parts of the island without electricity, and more off the island. I had not power or heat from 3:00 Wednesday afternoon until about 11:00 today (Saturday). This was not nearly as severe as the storm that hit us in 1998, but for some reason it brought down more tree branches and did much more damage to the electrical grid on the island than that storm did. This was taken around the middle of the day and the fog was very thick, something that is very rare here at that hour.
Despite the cold, I like the winter for its creation of beautiful Ice sculptures. Happy weekend ;-))
Just near the outlet of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, chunks of floating ice were brought to the beach by tidal waves.
The picture from a short visit to Moscow. Classic view and quite hard conditions - a good combination to create an interesting atmosphere.

This ice jam went 20 feet on to the beach - there was that much strength pushing it ashore. In 3 days it got warmer, the winds changed and it was gone!
I love loons. I don't see them often enough. I was headed to Seward and stopped at Summit Lake to see if there was anything photogenic there. Indeed, there were a pair of common loons swimming between the numerous floes of ice still on the lake. Of course the common loon presents issues with it's white and very dark feathers in getting a great exposure, always a challenge!

We went out to fly the drone but too windy. People had walked way out and climbing those mounds of ice today. I would never.....quite abit of open water too just the other side of these ice mounds too......... hope these ice shots aren’t boring you.
Little patches of the ice sheet were melting, and the water was reflecting the surrounding vegetation (I think). The 'design's looked very much like Rennie Mackintosh, to me.

Close up of the top of one of the Glaciers that we saw during our cruise through the Inside Passage, Alaska.
This is a close up of Matanuska glacier. The spot directlyunder my camera is any where from 50 - 100 feet of ice. The dark area that looks like dirt is actually about half and inch of silt sitting on top of the glacier below.

Katla is an Icelandic volcano covered by the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap in the south of the country. It lies to the east of Eyjafjöll, another volcano considered to be related to Katla. It is one of Iceland's most active and destructive volcanoes, responsible for several jökulhlaups (glacial lake outburst flood).
