When I saw these clouds I knew I wanted to create a black and white photograph. To help achieve a darker almost black sky I used a polarizer at its strongest causing the sky to literally be black allowing the clouds hidden details to be revealed. Captured with a 28mm lens ISO 160 1/60 second at f11.

After the hurricane [Zeta I think] blew through, I wanted to get out and hike a place called Graveyard Fields.... so.. that didn't happen, I was distracted by these lovely waterfalls spotted in the valleys between mountains, crazy clouds. This waterfall is a type of wet weather spring, and I had to hike back a long ways into the brush to find this little area where, at the right angle seems to be bubbling up from the ground. It isn't of course, it goes back for miles. The ground was so soft an difficult I didn't continue past this point. This was along side Standing Rock Overlook.

Back in the Spring two Canada geese arrived and started a family on a pond near my home here in West Wales. They had 5 goslings, lost one to a fox but the remaining four survived, as seen above with their mother. I watched them grow and a few days ago they took off to pastures new. Hopefully some or maybe all will return next year.

A few weeks ago, I went back to Belfast, Northern Ireland, to see my friends and family (and for a shoot for Guardian Travel). One day, I decided to research some locations and I found out about this waterfall about 30 mins drive from my house. No-one I talked to had really heard of it! Well, here is Glenoe Waterfall, between Larne and Carrickfergus.

It was sunny, but raining and I couldn't get the composition I wanted from the edge, so I rolled up my jeans, took off my shoes and socks and waded through the river for about an hour. It was pretty cold and painful, and I kept getting splashes of water on the lens from being so low to the river, but I think it was worth it.

As I stood beside this creek on an unstable, rocking stone, balancing my camera in the middle of the large drop right beneath my feet, pushing the tripod up as high as I could, one foot soaked in the icy water from an earlier misstep, all I could do was make tiny adjustments. Hoping I wasn’t about to take a plunge I managed to find my framing at last. I took only a few shots, noted this location as somewhere I needed to return to later. The musty scents, the sounds of the stream, the soft diffused light almost intoxicating, transporting me to a primeval time where the elemental elegance of a intimate scene such as this could set the soul ablaze. My discomfort forgotten, and joy overtook me. The natural world speaks to you, sings to you, one need only listen.

This is 8 photos stacked in Photoshop. The lens was approximately 1.5" from the subject, shot at f/22.0, ISO 160, with a 2.5 second exposure. Speaking of f/22.0, the Laowa lens shows that f/22.0 is available, but the dial only goes to f/16.0 So, the f/22.0 is just a guess.

The width of this shot is less than 1.5".

Prague Castle - an ancient symbol of the Czech lands - is the most significant Czech monument and one of the most important cultural institutions in the Czech Republic.

Prague Castle was most likely founded in around 880 by Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty (Přemyslovci).

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m².

A UNESCO World Heritage site, it consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from the remains of Romanesque-style buildings from the 10th century through Gothic modifications of the 14th century.

The famous Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik was responsible for extensive renovations in the time of the First Republic (1918-1938). Since the Velvet Revolution, Prague Castle has undergone significant and ongoing repairs and reconstructions.

Landscape photography, in reality, is easy. Art is subjective. Sure, mastering your equipment, understanding your settings, your post processing. You can bring an image all together seamlessly. However, once you begin taking those wide open scenes [That to be fair I am REALLY fond of] and condensing them... You begin finding challenges, forcing you to think out of the box. This scene for instance, garbage, scrap tin from roofing, flyers on the trees. Had to frame around it, and use a foreground element to help bring you into the scene... Did I do it alright? I don't know, but I am trying to learn how to construct a proper composition.
