Wish I knew the history of this old building in Victor, Colorado. Probably not the religious cult, definitely not the terrorists.

Isis by Simon Gudgeon, on the banks of The Serpentine is the focal point of The Royal Parks Foundation’s £2-million fundraising appeal to build a new, eco-friendly Look Out Education Centre in Hyde Park. Perfectly elegant, Gudgeon’s monumental sculpture is based on the ibis, a wading bird with a long, thin, down-curving bill.

The Royal Parks Foundation collaborated with Halcyon Gallery to turn the vision into reality. Acclaimed British sculptor, Simon Gudgeon, was commissioned to create Isis, a 3-metre high, mottled green, bronze sculpture. Unveiled in September 2009, Isis sits on the banks of The Serpentine with 1,000 plaques inlaid around her base with personal dedications, each raising £1,000

Isis is now 6 months old and doing really good. We are heading up to Coeur d'Alene, ID today to take her hiking today. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Tutankhamun's canopic chest (designed to hold the organs removed during mummification in four separate jars) was contained within an elaborate gilded wooden shrine in the side room attached to his burial chamber. The shrine is a masterpiece of ancient Egyptian art, decorated with four exquisite gilded figures of protective goddesses (Isis, Nephthys, Neith and Selket) who guard each side of the shrine with their arms outstretched.

The most celebrated part of the Cairo Museum's collection has for the best part of a century been the incomparable treasures of Tutankhamun's tomb housed in two long galleries on the upper floor. The greatest archaeological discovery of all time, the virtually intact tomb of the young pharaoh was discovered in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings, undisturbed since antiquity owing to the King's relative obscurity.

Tutankhamun was born Tutankhaten, son and successor of the 'heretic' pharaoh Akhenaten who dispensed with Egypt's centuries old religion in favour of his new god, the sun disk he called Aten. At Akhenaten's death Tutankhaten was only nine years old and early in his reign was persuaded to restore Egypt's religion and traditions, abandoning the cult of Aten and restoring the prominence of Amun, god of Thebes, thus changing his name to Tutankhamun. His early death barely a decade later and association with his reviled father led to the young pharaoh sharing his fate in being struck from the records and lists of Kings (an act of damnatio memoriae), thus his tomb itself was quickly forgotten and hidden beneath later structures whilst those of more famous rulers were stripped bare, probably within decades.

Howard Carter's discovery of the still sealed tomb in 1922 caused a sensation, nothing so complete had ever been found before. The tomb itself was small by pharaonic standards, prepared in a hurry as the king died in his late teens with two main chambers and a further two side chambers crammed with artworks, treasures and furnishings, along with the king's body sealed within four gilded-wooden shrines, three superbly rich coffins and the incomparable golden mask upon his head. Better still, the pharaoh's reign in the 18th Dynasty coincided with a particularly high period for artistic achievement, meaning that so much was of the highest quality. One can only imagine the riches that must have disappeared from the much larger tombs of the more famous rulers, compared to this tiny treasure-trove!

Tutankhamun's collection has resided in Cairo's Egyptian Museum ever since its discovery, but by the end of 2018 will have moved again to the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza (currently being prepared for partial opening later this year). The treasures will be displayed in their entirety for the first time, and many pieces have already been transferred. This visit offered us a last opportunity to view most of the major pieces in their central Cairo home for one last time.

Just 10 years . . .

Accidentally I found an old CD where I saved so many shots. Some published, some I did not. Here is one, 2005 VC dinner in Atlanta. In the great company of one of the sweetest girls I've known. Gina Browm.

The make over was produced by the talented Jamie Austin. My first of a few experiences with her. Jamie does a cinema trick that produces an instant, temporary and some times painful face lift. Same used By R. Williams in Mrs Doubtfire. Jamie squeezed the Italian out of me giving me those lucious lips, the sexy cat slanted eyes and an attitude that barely keep me within the bounds of the law.

My surprise is to find what just 10 years do to anyone and everyone. Ouch! I guess I'll need Jamie again to look this awesome!

If you wish to fave this image, please be nice leaving a comment. Thanks!

I decided to name her Isis. Loveee this girl.

The Ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans, and the downtrodden, and she listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats, and rulers.

Day 344 +G+ 365 Project 9 December 2012

1956 Morris Isis pictured at the North East Bus Preservation Trust's Seaburn Historic Vehicle Display on the 26th August 2019.

Isis was the wife of a craftsman from Deir el-Medina called Kabekhnet and the daughter-in-law of Sennedjem. This is the second coffin in which the mummy of Isis was enclosed. She also had a mummiform external coffin, as well as a pectoral placed directly over the bandages of her mummy. This pectoral was identical to the cover of the internal coffin and provided further protection against damage to the body.

On the cover, Isis is depicted richly dressed and as if she were still alive.

Isis' face is framed by a heavy, braided wig held by an elaborate multicoloured band decorated with geometric and floral motifs. Lotus blossoms, open and in the bud, are represented in low relief on the forehead of the figure. The lotus flower was a symbol of rebirth. The eyes are narrow while the mouth and the face itself are treated simply. The ears are not shown but are marked by the presence of large earrings consisting of a ring and a hemisphere of bone or ivory. The braids of the wig partially cover a pectoral with brightly coloured and elaborate decoration. The breasts are sculpted in relief and emphasized by rosettes.

Isis is shown wearing a full-length pleated robe that reaches her ankles and has a slit at the front. It is closed with a knot that is just visible below the left arm. The sleeves leave the forearms exposed, which are encircled by two rows of beads and also bracelets at the wrists. She has a ring on the thumb of her right hand. The right arm hangs along the body while the left is filled across the lower chest, clasping a fold on her garment.

Isis is also holding garlands of flowering ivy in each hand, arranged in an elaborate composition and providing a splash of colour to enliven the whiteness of the robe. Ivy, like the lotus, was associated with the promise of an afterlife.

Although Isis is represented as if still alive, the coffin is mummiform in shape. The lower part of the coffin is decorated with representations of the divine figures who inhabited the Egyptian Underworld. Corresponding to the position of the head of the deceased are the genii of the North, with those of the South reproduced at her feet. The two groups are separated by columns of text containing references to the Four Sons of Horus.
