The next step on England’s “Roadmap out of Lockdown”. Rob and I are still keeping it local by taking another turn around Colwick Country Park, but now that we aren’t obliged to pretend that our getting together is only for exercise we don’t actually need to stay on the move. If we want to stop for a few minutes and enjoy the sunset on this mild spring evening, we can! If we want to rest for a while longer and make the most of these gloriously clear skies, really savour the last of the daylight, perhaps make a little bonfire to keep ourselves warm... fuck it, I’m going to assume we can!

Rob and I walked alongside the Trent from Colwick to Burton Joyce where, at dusk, as we were thinking about turning around and heading back, a passing skein of geese caught his attention.

I found Cup Zero! So that’s why the Americans call it that...
It wasn’t actually anywhere near as dark as it looks, but wanting to shoot wide open on high-ISO film meant having to use the camera’s absolute fastest shutter speed, and the results would indicate that maybe it isn’t particularly well-timed. Remember as well that I didn’t yet know that the rangefinder is slightly out of alignment, so having decided to take this photo wide open I was unwittingly condemning myself to a misfocussed result, as well as an underexposed one.
But the actual point, what caught my eye, is thankfully still obvious. Just imagine, if the bloke who ordered this had had any other name in the world, and if he hadn’t carelessly left his rubbish lying around, I would’ve had to find some other subject.

Slightly misfocussed snowdrops.
Who would’ve thought that trying to focus-and-recompose with a rangefinder camera sporting an f/1.2 lens at the minimum focus distance whilst lying on the ground might lead to a loss of critical sharpness? I mean, I’ve pretty much nailed that single one facing away from me, but I wanted the whole cluster... never mind, they were already a day or two past their best anyway (which you can still kind of tell, in spite of everything).

ILFORD Delta 3200 Professional is my favorite black and white film. I love it because of the pronounced grain and versatility – I can shoot it in any lightning conditions. I always rate this film at ISO 3200 and this incredible sensitivity lets it be shoot during the night, even with ...

Throwback Thursday!
Once upon a time, at the beginning of the year, I spent an evening with friends at the cinema, where there was a special screening of La Dolce Vita. Now, as the year finally limps towards the finishing line, the very idea of spending an evening with friends is almost unthinkable, and basically any screening at the cinema would be pretty damn special. La vita non è più dolce...
