This redbud which is always in flower in plenty of time for the March basketball tournament was named for NC State's incomparable women's basketball coach, Kay Yow. Kay's grace under pressure, elegance, and tough constitution are well represented by this tree and the pinkish-lavender flowers remind us of her determination not to give up in her fight with cancer. 'Kay's Early Hope' redbud is the perfect garden reminder that spring is just around the corner and winter is soon over.

One last photo of the beautiful Lynx that graced my wife and I with a visit. This is the third time in 20 years of photographing Alaskan wildlife that a lynx has paused long enough for many photos. On this occasion and one other, shot well over 100 images of each one.On the third occasion, was grabbing my gear out of the back seat when another car drove up fast, hit the brakes, which squealed loudly, and the lynx ran off before being able to take any photos. The ignorant driver asked, "what are you taking pictures of?" Because this is a family setting, will not disclose my answer,,,,,,

This lynx was so docile, it makes the photographer wonder if it had ever encountered a human before. This one was spotted on the road, so chances are it experienced traffic before, but wonder if the smell of a human with it's lens stuck out the window made him curious? Anyways, I love the fireweed in the background, and of course the lynx as the main subject. Photos and opportunities like this are what keeps my drive alive.

I was planning to share something else a bit more obscure now, but I just heard from her new family how she's doing.. and it's great and made me cry.

Bess is now Flow. Her new name.

Pete and Lilly, and half an hour later their full-of-beans-n-good-natured German Shepherd Kumar, and (Kelpi?) Perro, all met up with Bess a few days ago.

Ever since her first lead training day, my ignorant prejudices of Bess vaporised. She has fantastic eye contact, if you know how to get it. You know, if you get on her wavelength she'll follow you to the ends of the earth. Look into her eyes...

[ i have in my mind the memory of her in the front of their van being gently cuddled and subtly entertained by Lilly, lit in the dark by the downlight of their courtesy light, as they all reversed out of Rob's drive to their new life ]

Long story cut short for now, she or we could not have hoped for a better life for her than with her new family.

Rob knew it, as did I, when we met Pete, Lllly and their dogs.

Recently I decided to revisit some older, not recent at all, photos of mine. ("Very old" sounded exaggerated)

Posting them just as I left them. Please forgive the quality or any tackiness.

These photos were taken when I was even more clueless or unexposed to the real intricacies of thoughtful, quality and consistant photography. Though ignorant, I feel I picked up on the foundation of this art more naturally than I do most skills in general

(I'm a very clumsy, anxious, awkward human. I try to embrace it.) This is reflecting on years ago, but it really still applies.
