Call me ignorant but I had no idea that corn comes in such interesting and unusual colours. Last weekend I saw these corncobs which served as decoration on the roof of a food stall in a local park. At first I thought they were fake but no, they are real. My normal yellow corncobs will look quite boring to me from now on.

The 2H65 12.23 Carlisle to Leeds service is seen crossing Batty M moss Viaduct (better known for its location as Ribblehead Viaduct). The unit in question, 158 816 was 13 minutes late at this point but pumped into Leeds just 4 minutes down.

It was a real eye opener for me as a Canadian to initially visit Europe and see how the culture has kept alive the whole concept of community closeness that seems to have eluded North America where we embrace the community from our individualistic point of view.

Maybe in our rush to embrace the New World in addition casting off the old ways of compliance and subservience we gave up a sense of community responsibility in exchange for a perceived rugged idealistic individualism that makes for great stories but not a great community.

The Netherlands was my easy entry into travel in continental Europe after having spent months in Scotland and some travel exploration of England realizing there exists a world outside of North America not just what you see in TV and Movies.

Spending a lazy weekend in Holland especially with almost everyone speaking English and all citizens seeming very tolerant of ignorant North Americans especially ignorant Maritime Canadians is a great place to spend your first weekend in Europe.

The last thing I want to mention is a photographic tip about leading lines in your travel photos find them and use them they are everywhere and using them to direct the viewer through a picture is as old as photography and one of the most effective tools you have in your arsenal.

Montezuma Castle National Monument protects a set of well-preserved dwellings located in Camp Verde, Arizona, which were built and used by the Sinagua people, a pre-Columbian culture closely related to the Hohokam and other indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States, between approximately AD 1100 and 1425. The main structure comprises five stories and about 20 rooms and was built over the course of three centuries. Back when this was an active settlement the dwelling were reached by a series of wooden ladders which have long rotted away and in the valley below a small but steady river provide water for drinking and crops which were grown nearby.

Several Hopi clans and Yavapai communities trace their ancestries to early immigrants from the Montezuma Castle/Beaver Creek area. Archaeological evidence proves that the Hohokam and Hakataya settled around or in the Verde Valley. Clan members periodically return to these ancestral homes for religious ceremonies.

The name is totally inaccurate as this site had nothing to do with Montezuma or the Aztecs who lived several hundred miles to the south but was coined by mid 19th century Americans ignorant of the origins of the site.

What do you do when you find a group of baby skunks snuggling in the grass? Photograph them from a distance, don't try to disturb them, and most certainly do NOT touch them. Some people are so ignorant and approached them with little kids and an iPhone trying to get a video while their 1 year reaches for a baby skunk. Mindless parenting.

Whenever I upload a photo to Flickr I at least make some degree of an effort to identify the subject. Well, all I can say is that this is a hover fly, apparently one of 6,000 different types. I am sure there will be someone out there who can narrow down the ID but it does seem a complex world to myself being so ignorant when it comes to insects.

I'm not sure if this is high key or flat light (or both) or some other photographic phenomenon of which I'm, at best, completely ignorant. Regardless, I was pleased with this somewhat unusual result which is exactly as it emerged from the camera. Obviously, the sky was a uniform grey and not a breeze to be felt as can be seen in the absolute calmness of the water. While my immediate impulse was to apply textures, I exercised restraint...and admit that even as I type this I am sorely tempted to fiddle...

Australia is suffering a major climatic disaster. Those infernal fires are of gigantic proportions, that are hard to imagine for most of us. Climate change is real. Young people have realized and are shouting for help, but sadly, politicians seem to don't care. In Mexico our ignorant president are supporting fossil fuels instead of renovable energies, which is a tremendous error for our future. Hope we can make a change before this is unavoidable.
