It was sitting and watching its neighbourhood until a couple of ignorant people chased it away - in a nature reserve ... why why why .,. why do they go there in the first place? Right now you meet them there in many places, right in the breeding protection zone, picknicking ... Idiots!

The little stone church of St. Mary and St. Finnan on the shores of Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan caught my eye. It reminds me to keep faith and not to despair.

I still believe in my fellow citizens; that a tsunami is coming at the ballot box in November and the most corrupt, demonstrably ignorant and unfit, monstrous presidency in our history will soon be checked and eventually discarded to the dustbin of history. I can only hope that many lessons have been learned.

Labyrinth Spider | Agelena Labyrinthica | June 2021 | Monteggio, Switzerland

My latest ANIMAL VIDEO (warning, it's a bit shocking): www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T2-Xszz7FI

ABOUT THE PHOTO:

This beautiful labyrinth spider did me the courtesy of positioning itself in a ray of sunlight coming through the leaves of the plants in my garden where it had built its sophisticated (and judging from the remains of prey that were visible as lovely "home decorations" everywhere: highly effective) web.

I know, most people don't like spiders, and I must admit for the better part of my life I wasn't exactly too comfortable around them either. But what I love most about macro photography is that it's rapidly changing my perception of the tiniest creatures in my garden: viewed up close, they suddenly have a face - literally - which made me aware of them as expressive beings with a "personality" in a way I wasn't before.

Before, even though I've always been a "nature nerd", with regards to the tiniest insects and spiders in my garden I was a typical Homo Sapiens sapiens I guess. While it's easy for our species to sympathize with bigger animals whose biology more resembles our own and whose expressive faces remind us of our own emotions, we at best behave like ignorant, indifferent giants towards the smallest creatures that share our world, and at worst we see nothing in them but pests or scary, alien-looking monsters we try to extinguish wherever we find them.

Let's face it: we are a highly irrational species. We pay money to go on safaris and are - rightly - fascinated by large predators such as a pack of lions lurking in the high grass; we call those the "kings of the animals" and hold our breath in sheer excitement when we see the pack suddenly attack and gorily devour an antelope (which is nasty business: it's not uncommon that the prey already gets its belly torn open while it's still alive); yet the micro equivalents of those lions hunting prey in our gardens we view with disdain or are repulsed by.

So, to anyone viewing this photo whose first immediate reaction is disgust, I say: try to replace your fear or repulsion with a little fascination for the "micro lions" in your own backyard. Then get a macro lens and go on a garden safari; chances are you'll find a world of hidden beauty that is every bit as fascinating and rewarding for a photographer as any tropical jungle or African savannah ;-)

ABOUT THE SPECIES (from Wikipedia, slightly abbreviated by me):

Range And Habitat

Agelena labyrinthica build flat plate surface webs connected to funnel-shaped retreats similar to labyrinths, which are typically constructed between low lying grass and vegetation. These spiders are fairly common in Europe and Central Europe, and are typically concentrated in areas near forests and low lying vegetation, as well as in dry grassland.

Description

Agelena labyrinthica has a body length of up to 18 mm (0.71 in). It has approximately 25 trichobothria per walking leg. These hairs help the spider detect prey that has been caught in its web, or even prey that is near enough to cause vibrations in its web. The trichobothria hairs essentially act as a long-distance sensory system for A. labyrinthica that helps them detect prey with great accuracy and speed.

Spatial Perception

Having to travel between its sheet web and its funnel shaped retreat, A. labyrinthica have shown signs of detour compensation that allow the spider to orient itself and navigate even in complete darkness. Using its eyes to quickly navigate its web, A. labyrinthica is able to detect the plane of polarized light present, and position itself relative to it in order to maintain its orientation. A. labyrinthica also relies on its idiothetic orientation, as well as directional cues such as gravity, to gain its bearings no matter where it is.

Like many photographers before me, I try to find my reasons for photography close to where we live and rediscover them for myself. I believe that you should only photograph when you have a reason to do so - when something delights you, when you notice something that carries emotions and has a hidden meaning, carries a message - tells the story. Since Newton believed that people are self-taught and ignorant, there is basically no way other than self-learning skills. And thirdly, I come to the conclusion that the equipment I photograph is in the last place in terms of importance, it just needs to be able to register my idea for the scene I imagine - I mainly think about background blur, depth of field, lens light intensity, matrix size and noise level. Often handheld equipment - a mobile phone in our day - can be enough to achieve its goal, which I am trying to prove lately and which, to my surprise, is becoming true.

Each time brings with it a different vision of the same places and allows you to improve your skills.

"And the people stayed at home, and read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised.

They also created art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and they were still.

And they heard more.

Some meditated, others prayed

some even danced.

There were some who even knew their shadows.

And people started to think differently.

And people started to heal.

And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, automatic, and heartless ways, the planet began to heal.

And when the danger passed, people came back together, mourned their losses, and made new decisions.

And they dreamed new images.

And they created new ways of living and completely healed the planet, just as they had been healed. "

Ignorant of detailed European history, it only dawned on me lately that the Muslims had actually ruled Spain for almost 800 hundred years. The Muslims built a lot of beautiful cities in Spain, setting up a postal system and raised city life into a life of culture and comfort unknown in the rest of Europe. Spain learned a lot from the Muslims about algebra and geometry, medicine and pharmacology, agriculture and irrigation, astronomy and navigation making possible the subsequent Renaissance of Europe.

This year on our annual trek to Pacific Beach, we found ourselves walking through ground fog which obscured our destination. It perfectly illustrated my feeling of unease at journeying into the unknown as a nation with an ignorant demagogue as a leader. The Al-Madakhil Mountains, which is approximately after Hijr on Bareed, where the road crosses the Al-Madakhil Mountains, which is a wide area of sedimentary mountains, with an area of about 90 square kilometres, and it appears as if it were a single rock that cracked over the ages until it became blocks and high rocky mountains, formed in shapes A wonderful sight, and among them are sand dunes (Taus) with which it is difficult to walk except with difficulty. These mountains are called entrances, and perhaps their name came because they have dozens of similar entrances, and they are a marvel of wonders. Whoever walks between these high mountains finds himself in front of a natural museum of sculpture, so the eyes can wander among these wonderful formations, and the imagination can imagine what it wants of images hidden in those canyons, caves, sharp edges and natural causes that form an endless maze of zigzags, twists and turns that may be lost within them. He is ignorant of its entrances and exits, and only its people are good at it. Whoever visits it for the first time will be surprised by this strange and similar formation

"I was never a teller of stories

Didn't need to thrive on the glory

It's about the life of a man, victim time and time again

Hard as hell to get up in the morning

And the rain soaking through my coat

It's about to capsize my boat

I push it a long away from the docks

I was never a good puncher of time clocks

As the rain has chilled me to the bone

I'm flat-out tired and alone

I put it away, now it's locked

I was never a good puncher of time clocks

Regrets to stoke the fires

Clay pigeon and the ignorant liars

The view from my window as the pouring rain seeps

Too scared to look down in the deep

Make no illusions about your forgone conclusions

Time will set you back, will heal all your wounds

If the darkness sets in, it creeps up on you

Like a man typecast the fool"

Because the kitten had a plastic rope tied around it's nack which was like a leak to it. I helped untie the rope from the kitten nack before taking the picture. But I couldn't put an end to the fear of the kitten. Because the kitten was away from his mother and no trace of his mother could be found."

A starry sky is seen through a sandstone arch on Hunt's Mesa.

Everywhere and always, human beings have struggled to understand and express their relationship to the infinite, their place in the grand spiritual design that they perceive in the cosmos. Whenever I point my camera towards the heavens I'm reminded of the massive expanse we live in, that's our neighborhood in the left eye. We're just a dust speck floating along unfettered, minute and ignorant. Isn't ignorance Bliss!!!

On our way back from shooting the sunset on Hunt's Mesa, we used an alternate route back so that we could stop by this incredible triple window arch. The thing was so massive Wayne and I were having a hard time shooting it. My widest fastest lens is the 16-35mm f2.8 so I used that but still couldn't get it all in after several attempts, this being one of them. After I merged the series It looked like some kind of drama mask or a stone giant's face, up close. Hope you like it.

Isn't God a great artist?

Yet another, just tell me when to stop.

Like many birds, man has done soo much harm either directly or through his selfish or ignorant activities.

These birds are a good example,

Rats & cats are among their biggest enemy along with cars, destruction of habitat etc .

I won't bore you with the list.

I was amazed to read of cat organisations or groups that are aghast at the idea of humainly destroying feral cats ????

Our "civilised society" is anything but logical.

Many cat owners freely allow their animals to roam especially at night involving high, unacceptable levels of cruelty to birds and other animals yet this is "acceptable " .

What hypocrisy.

I believe to make progress in wild bird and animal welfare these noise makers should spend their time educating cat owners in responsible pet keeping.

Domestic cats live on an average of 15- 17 years however feral cats live only 3-5 years after a miserable life of hunger, disease and general poor living conditions...

And she said

"My child, today we sit on this beautiful beach, enjoying, watching the waves, the penguins and the boulders, but not so long ago people with our colour of skin were not allowed on such beaches. We were chased, beaten and sometime tortured, all because we looked different. We were treated with less regards than the penguins you see here. Not as humans, not as people capable of thinking and loving.

I did hate back then, not those that were chasing us, not those that were beating or torturing us, they were ignorant and did not know they were doing wrong. Those that I hated were the ones who knew better, the church going families, the mums and dads, who knew that it was wrong to treat people this way, but walked on without looking, helping. It did not concern them.

See my child, you will grow in a different world. Hopefully better than the one I knew. We learn to forgive and move on, but, if we do not want history to repeat itself, we should never forget. Grow to not allow injustices around you, to yourself and to others"

The title is a line from this poem:

Dover Beach

BY MATTHEW ARNOLD

The sea is calm tonight.

The tide is full, the moon lies fair

Upon the straits; on the French coast the light

Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,

Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.

Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!

Only, from the long line of spray

Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,

Listen! you hear the grating roar

Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,

At their return, up the high strand,

Begin, and cease, and then again begin,

With tremulous cadence slow, and bring

The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago

Heard it on the Ægean, and it brought

Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow

Of human misery; we

Find also in the sound a thought,

Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith

Was once, too, at the full, and round earth’s shore

Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.

But now I only hear

Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,

Retreating, to the breath

Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear

And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true

To one another! for the world, which seems

To lie before us like a land of dreams,

So various, so beautiful, so new,

Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,

Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;

And we are here as on a darkling plain

Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,

Where ignorant armies clash by night.

he could not even lie ;-)

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Excuse moi d'aimer vivre.

Excuse moi de t'offrir mon ventre pour que tu naisses.

Je te pardonne, car tu es ignorant, bête et méchant.

Excuse me for existing.

Sorry for putting on XXXL.

Excuse me for hiding.

Excuse me for wanting respect and love like everyone else.

Excuse me for being human.

Excuse me for trying to find myself beautiful and sensual.

Excuse me for offering you my pleasure without counting.

Excuse me for loving living.

Excuse me for offering you my belly for you to be born.

I forgive you, because you are ignorant, stupid and mean.

And the people stayed home.

And read books, and listened, and rested,

and exercised, and made art,

and played games,

and learned new ways of being, and were still.

And listened more deeply.

Some meditated, some prayed, some danced.

Some met their shadows.

And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed.

And, in the absence of people living in ignorant,

dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways,

the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again,

they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images,

and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully,

as they had been healed.

Poem By Kitty O’Meara

The animal is ignorant of the fact that he knows. The man is aware of the fact that he is ignorant.

but to merit serious consideration, must be directly connected with the world we live in :-)
