These two males were the only Orcas we saw yesterday. They were hunting and hanging out together.
It was a fabulous day on the water. Weather cooperated and didn't rain, nor was it too sunny. I made a last minute decision to go whale watching out of Port Angeles and so glad I did. It's very hard to capture sharp photos while the boat is rocking in the wake but our captain did his best to keep us on track. Hope you enjoy this series.
Grey Heron / Graureiher (Ardea cinerea)
I always get a thrill from seeing a Heron hunt in the middle of a meadow. Observing them for a few moments quickly show's how they're just as well adapted to spearing small mammals in grass as they are fish in water. A great predator.

The oldest Building in Hövelhof, district of Paderborn, Germany, was errected as a hunting lodge for Dietrich Adolf von der Recke, Prince-Bishop of Paderborn in 1661. Since 1715 it has been used as a vicarage by the parish of Hövelhof.

Desert Hackberry is a densely branched shrub of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts. It is slow growing, long-lived, and semi-evergreen, depending on temperature and moisture availability. The small, dull green leaves are coarsely toothed. The inconspicuous flowers are followed by small orange fruit that provide food for birds and mammals. My side yard. Southwest Arizona, USA. Autumn.

RRs hunt in packs in Africa. They don't attack lions, but were used to keep the large animal at bay for the hunter in earlier days.
