I love the blurred background here, but the liquid in the bird feeder has the complete reflection of the wetlands in the background.

A hummingbird sitting on a feeder at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary. Hard to tell, but I think this is a Rufous Hummingbird.

Having fun with hummingbirds today in Mesa, Arizona

Photos of a late afternoon spent with a large charm of hummingbirds. It was one of the coolest bird-related experiences I've ever had.

Make sure to jump to my youtube to see a super-slow motion close-up of the birds in flight and visit virtualwayfarer.com for more background.

Sometimes the ants come and block the holes.

Lucifers are a favoured flower of the Annas Hummingbird. The bell-shaped, red flowers are a sign of delicious nectar.

Today I had my first hummingbird show up for this season. The warmer weather also brought the grosbeaks, indigo buntings and a few more orioles. The grosbeaks are enjoying the grape jelly too over the oranges hands down.

Steely-vented Hummingbird flying

This Ruby-Throated Hummingbird was trapped inside a building, but was thankfully rescued, and flew off on his own!

Ruby Throated Hummingbird

(Archilochus colubris) male

We took down a feeder and placed this plant in its location. This is an immature male who consistently nectared at this location away from the mature males.

Painted metal hummingbird is just behind the live hummer.

I had a chance this afternoon to make a few more photos of the hummers.

Even got one of these sticking his tounge out - never saw that before!

Savegre Mountain Lodge, San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica.

Six species of hummers visited the feeders here: Magnificent, Scintillant, White-throated Mountain Gem, Volcano Hummingbird, Green Violet-ear, and Striped Hummingbird.

This tiny, tiny hummingbird showed up on my back deck this morning. I don't think he was much more than 1 inch long.

I'm assuming this is a juvenile male Ruby Throat - just beginning to show his colors. If this incorrect, let me know, I'll change the title.

This adult female has field markings that make for ready ID (for a female HB). This species nests in the NW states and provinces.
