Unfortunately I couldn't find an answer online (I did later, and yes, hummers don't like to fly at night); but I was concerned about holding it too long in my hand, or even 'caging' it. So, right after taking this video, I took a step onto the patio with hummer in cupped hands. It immediately began squirming with much force, so I opened my hands, and it burst into flight: And flew right back inside my house. Following the light. Now I had to catch it again....

This apparent Rufous Hummingbird was found earlier today by Melissa Roach and then photographed by Jan Getgood. Remarkably, this is the 5th Selasphorus record for my parents' yard. Video taken on 17 October 2012 by Andy McGann appears to show indentations near the tip of R2, forming a nipple shape diagnostic for Rufous Hummingbird. I thought about capturing this guy for a while now and finally have done so. It's more of a challenge photographing the males than the females as the neck and head color can be difficult to control.

In a friend's backyard, the hummingbirds abounded during the summer. They live next to a wooded area and are very close to their nesting sites. Oklahoma, 2010
I went to Fort De Soto for the spring migration. WOW! I got so many lifers. Of course I don't dedicate my life to getting lifers. I saw; indigo bunting, summer tanager, cedar waxwing, warblers (cape may, prothonotory, tennessee, blackpoll, parulla, hooded, prairie, palm, yellow-throated, black and white, american redstart) hummingbirds, yellow-billed cuckoo, brown-crested flycatcher, orioles, magnificent frigate bird, long-billed curlew, common tern, great horned owl with chick and many others, so many I can't remember them all.
