My wife and I spend many summer nights on the deck watching the ruby throated hummingbirds buzz around the feeders. We try to get shots with out the feeders in and as most of you who try to get those shots know that it is difficult. My wife can take some short video with her camera and one night we got this amazing shot of a hummer feeding and very clear picture of her tongue. Click on the full screen for a great shot.

August 17, 2006 - hummingbird at feeder

Difficult little fellows to capture! SHot these with a Sigma 150-500mm (at 500mm) at very high ISO (1600) due to bad light. We put out a new hummingbird feeder and it's already luring in a few different birds.

I an surprised that I got this one. If you look closely, you can see her tongue!

My first humming bird photo, it was hard to photograph those little creatures.

There are no words to express our absolute joy at seeing this first "not Anna's" hummingbird on our feeders today. This is a Rufous Hummingbird and the beginning of what we hope will be many species that grace our backyard this season. Let the migration begin!
