Does Vicks manufacture humidifier? Apparently, yes. It works pretty good with much steam coming out to moisture the environment. But we have to add salt into the water everytime we change new water.

You can see the 8-track player (~$2 yard sale purchase) that pipes in analog music from Clint's computer in the other room. It's like a faucet. You turn it on, and get music. In the rare (1 or 2 days a year) event the computer is crashed, you turn it to FM radio. The speakers hang from the plant-holders that were on the ceiling when we moved on. It's covered with duct tape to keep its evil light from escaping into the dark bedroom. I had to label the knobs with a sharpie. That's a Kenny Rogers/Dollie Mae duet 8-track in there. The yardsale folks gave it to me for free, becuase I told them I wanted to own at least one instance of this outdated medium.
You can also see the Vick's VapoRub (VapoSteam) vaporizer/humidifier that Carolyn uses to make her sinuses feel better. It was $2 at a yard sale, but costs $28 (sale) / $48 (list) if you buy it new. Plus, Carolyn makes her own solution from it -- MUCH cheaper to buy the ingredients and mix them yourself!

BACKSTORY: The craigslist posting for this yardsale mentioned a queen size mattress & box springs for $25. So when we got there, we inquired and exchanged information in case she didn't sell it. We called a few days later, and she still had it. She was moving to California, so she didn't need the mattress anymore. We asked her when she was leaving, so that we could do the extra-nice step of getting it after her last night of sleeping in Virginia. So we took 2 of our cars and drove over there again to get it. When we got there, she changed her mind about the price and gave it to us for free because she would have had to pay to have someone pick it up. Win!

Winters are very dry in Seoul. We run humidifiers constantly. If we don't, static electricity happens and each stroke of the cat fur causes a slight shock to both parties and sparkles at night. Rum gets into the steam coming from the humidifier. Since he is an older cat with a chronic cough, we think it helps him breathe. He's now taught the other two cats to enjoy it as well. All three line up and sit where the vapor hits them until their fur is damp.
So I got this as a present for Christmas. I enjoy how it appears in pictures. I actually took a 365 with it. Coming soon.

This humidifier runs next to my bed all night in the winter. Sometimes its groans and whirs are so interesting that they keep me awake and I have to turn it off. It plays little cadences, drones, and repeating beats that constantly change. Or I'm just hallucinating in my half-asleep state.
I've been meaning to record it for months. It didn't do anything particularly exciting during these 45 seconds, but you can hear it subtly change even in that time.

The Biotope
Inside the pavilion, the centrepiece: is an 18m giant green cone covered in edible plants, irrigated with the harvested water. On the inside, this food cone has the perfect conditions for growing oyster mushrooms. Its design helps keeping the pavilion cool. The humidified air, rich in CO2, also aids in the growth of the edible plants on the exterior of the cone.

We grow food, harvest water and generate electricity, all in a naturally controlled climate system. At the centre of the pavilion sits a giant green food cone. On the outside this vertical farm is covered with edible plants, the cold, dark and humid inside is perfect for growing mushrooms. A solar-powered Rainmaker turns desert air into a continuous supply of safe and clean water, while solar cells in the pavilion’s solar cells provide the Rainmaker with electricity. At the same time, these skylights allow sunlight into the pavilion, which the plants need for photosynthesis. The result is a perfectly circular miniature biosphere.
