With temperatures now in the double digits below zero - the air outside is as dry as a desert - while inside, two humidifiers work to keep a little moisture in our air.
At the bottom of our double paned windows, condensation forms, turning the outside world upside down. In the water droplets you can make out the blue sky, forest trees, and snow covered ground. It makes for a really weird abstract world.
No art work needed for this macro - this image just needed the brightness knocked down a tiny bit.

Spotted cheap and cheerful luggage bags for sale at the Gilasco no-frills department store.
This was my second visit to Gilasco since before the lockdown. The store sells sporting goods, luggage bags, cheap perfume, air humidifiers, sneakers, shoes etc.
All of its merchandise are sourced from China and its cheap prices have attracted hordes of customers, especially tourists and immigrant workers with modest budgets.
I came here to look for a particular spray on cologne called "Chic Sheikh" which I could not find elsewhere. I liked the fragrance as it reminds me of scent of the Arabian incense when I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Muscat back in February 2019.

This is NOT my style photograph. I really don't like it, to be honest.. BUT, since I joined the 52 week challenge.. I have to post something for the subject, "SMOKE".
I suppose I could have interpreted this in many different ways.. but This is what I wanted to do.. (some type of smoke).
So I was having a hard time.. Setting up the smoke and taking the picture at the same time. *Annoyed face*.
So I took two different types of photos.. (Some using cigarette smoke) & (some using mist/vapor from my humidifier).
I really wasn't thrilled with any of the photos.. But to be honest, it was so frustrating to me.. I really didn't even know if I was going to be able to capture a shot for 'smoke' because of my busier week.. and my lack of patience for this smoke shot.
I wasn't even going to post any.. but I told myself I had to.
*SO!! I added two photos together and stacked them.. One from cigarette smoke.. one from the vaporizer.
Together, I guess they're a little better than when they were by themselves.
I felt like I needed someone to help me set up my idea while I photographed it.. and since it wasn't possible.. I grew frustrated. lol
So here it is.. I'm not "happy" with it. It'd be great if it was 'my style', maybe I wouldn't dislike it so much. But 'smoke photos' are def not my thing.

The six-story base of the headquarters building was commissioned by the founder, William Randolph Hearst, and awarded to the architect Joseph Urban. The building was completed in 1928. The original cast stone facade has been preserved in the new design as a designated Landmark site. Originally built as the base for a proposed skyscraper, the construction of the tower was postponed due to the Great Depression. The new tower addition was completed nearly eighty years later.
The tower—designed by the architect Norman Foster, structurally engineered by WSP Cantor Seinuk, and constructed by Turner Construction—is 46 stories tall, standing 182 meters (597 ft) with 80,000 square metres (860,000 sq ft) of office space. The uncommon triangular framing pattern (also known as a diagrid) required 9,500 metric tons (10,480 tons) of structural steel—reportedly about 20% less than a conventional steel frame. Hearst Tower was the first skyscraper to break ground in New York City after September 11, 2001. The building received the 2006 Emporis Skyscraper Award,[5] citing it as the best skyscraper in the world completed that year.
Hearst Tower is the first "green" high-rise office building completed in New York City, with a number of environmental considerations built into the plan. The floor of the atrium is paved with heat conductive limestone. Polyethylene tubing is embedded under the floor and filled with circulating water for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. Rain collected on the roof is stored in a tank in the basement for use in the cooling system, to irrigate plants and for the water sculpture in the main lobby. 85% of the building's structural steel contains recycled material. Overall, the building has been designed to use 26% less energy than the minimum requirements for the city of New York, and earned a gold designation from the United States Green Building Council’s LEED certification program, becoming New York City's first LEED Gold skyscraper.
The atrium features escalators which run through a 3-story water sculpture titled Icefall, a wide waterfall built with thousands of glass panels, which cools and humidifies the lobby air. The water element is complemented by a 70-foot-tall (21 m) fresco painting titled Riverlines by artist Richard Long.

This is a classic Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, captured as one of about 400 frames I took of water vapor falling from my decorative humidifier this evening. The last time I tried this, I didn't have a flash, so it just didn't work very well. But now I have one, and so I used it to backlight the falling water vapor. I set my camera to take one frame every four seconds, and let it rip until the card filled up! This is significantly better than my first attempt at this.
The K-H instability arises when one layer of gas or fluid is moving past another. The velocity difference can give rise to regular oscilations at the boundary between the two layers, and sometimes these oscillations become a K-H instability, showing the classic curlyques at regular intervals. They typically don't last long, as they're very sensitive to conditions. If anything changes, the instability disintigrates immediately, and assumes either a more gentle gravity wave form or a much more chaotic turbulent form. But when things are just right, this lovely pattern emerges. This pattern can be seen in the clouds, though rarely, particularly above mountains where faster moving air is being forced to rise to get over the mountain, where it meets a layer of more slowly moving air.
Emergence: chaotic fluid flow occasionally organizes in seemingly non-chaotic ways, which are fragile and fleeting, having initial condition sensitivity.
ODC-Beginning/Start
A new beginning for us today is the use of a brand new humidifier. I looked at dozens of these and looked at bigger ones, different coloured ones but didn't like any of them so I decided this one would be best, and it's small enough for the corner and the colour is nice. The colour is Nutmeg, my favourite Spice!
I love my new humidifier but filling it up is a bit precarious. The funnel they provide fits into the hole in the front but it's not particularly secure. When you're pouring more water into it and if you touch it with the bucket it can knock it back and the water will go on the floor. It's a design flaw IMHO. But, regardless I do like the unit and it is doing a perfect job so other than that I can't complain. It's keeping the air moist which is important since it's near the gas fireplace that dries the air in here.
