Our final sightseeing stop in Key West was the historic Key West Cemetery (701 Passover Ln.).
The cemetery features many family burial plots, which are delineated by low walls or iron fences. This photo shows a view of the Lowe family plot. While the stones shown here date from the early 1900s, some of the graves in this plot date back to the mid-1800s. The tall stone on the left marks the graves of Mary E. Lowe (1836-1919) and John Lowe Jr. (1833-1917); the two headstones in the middle mark the graves of Philip J. Bayly (1857-1912) and his wife, Emma Bayly (1864-1908), both of England; and the tombstone on the far right marks the grave of Charles R. Lowe (1870-1902).
The cemetery was established in 1847, after the hurricane of October 1846 destroyed/washed away several burial grounds throughout the island. The Historic Florida Keys Foundation offers a downloadable cemetery map that highlights many historically significant graves.
Prints and Canvasses Available
The River Greta flows through limestone country, and this particular part downstream from God's Bridge on the Pennine Way is a good example. It becomes largely subterranean before resurfacing a little further on. After a dry spell it can dry up almost completely, as can be seen in this photo taken from the centre of the riverbed. However, examination of the rocks shows that it can also be ferocious. This image taken on private property with access by kind permission of the owner.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there are 273,546 people, 91,382 households, and 61,956 families residing in Newark; recent census projections show that the population has already increased to around 280,000. The population density was 11,400/mile² (4,400/km²), or 21,000/mile² (8,100 km²) once airport, railroad, and seaport lands are excluded, the second-highest in the nation of any city with over 250,000 residents (after New York City).
The racial makeup of the city was 53.46% Black or African American, 26.52% White, 1.19% Asian, 0.37% Native American, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 14.05% from other races, and 4.36% from two or more races. 29.47% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. San Andrés Apóstol
Parroquia y convento de San Andrés Apóstol que fue construido en el siglo XVI. Su fachada principal cuenta con muros de 90 cm. de ancho construidos con piedra de Tezontle.
Templo de San Andrés
El templo y convento de San Andrés, edificado en 1537 bajo la supervisión de los frailes agustinos, se levantó sobre lo que fuera un teocalli mixquica, pero la iglesia se derrumbó quedando sólo la torre del campanario. Hacia 1600 fue reconstruida tal y como se encuentra ahora, aunque separada de la torre del primer templo. La fiesta patronal de San Andrés se celebra el 30 de noviembre.
En 1530 se instituyó el verdadero gobierno de la Colonia en trato directo con los pueblos indígenas: el corregimiento, que apareció como una alternativa a la encomienda y fue un sistema de gobierno y recaudación de tributos de los indígenas para la corona. Pronto Cuitláhuac y Mixquic se convirtieron en encomiendas privadas; sobreviviendo así hasta bien entrado el siglo XVII, ligados al corregimiento o alcaldía mayor de Chalco.
En Mixquic, cuyo nombre significa "en el mezquite", hemos logrado conservar nuestra ancestral tradición de culto a la muerte mediante diversas formas. Una de ellas son los vestigios labrados, encontrados en distintas excavaciones realizadas en el Pueblo, en los que predominan las figuras de calaveras que, hasta hace algunos años, adornaban las fachadas de algunas de nuestras casas.

Arqueología
Éste es el patio de la Parroquia de San Andrés, un sitio arqueológico donde destacan Mixquixtli, diosa de la vida y de la muerte, y la escultura de un chac-mool franqueada por dos aros del Juego de pelota. También se encuentran calaveras labradas en piedra volcánica.
Muchos de los objetos encontrados en este lugar, puedes verlos en el Museo de sitio de nuestra localidad.
El Vapor Esperanza
Durante todo el siglo XIX, Tláhuac, Mixquic y los demás pueblos enclavados a la orilla del lago fueron testigos mudos de diversos proyectos. Unos consideraban indispensable desecar los lagos, otros sugerían aprovecharse de ellos con fines de transporte, canalización e irrigación y, para unos más, una y otra acción debían combinarse en el desarrollo planificado de la Ciudad de México.

La Delegación Tláhuac tiene una superficie de 8,534.62 hectáreas, está ubicada en la zona sur-oriente del Distrito Federal y ocupa un 5.75% de la Ciudad. Colinda al norte y noreste con la Delegación Iztapalapa; al oriente, con el municipio Valle de Chalco Solidaridad, Estado de México; al sur, con Milpa Alta, hasta el vértice del volcán Teuhtli, y al suroeste y oeste, con Xochimilco.

En San Andrés Mixquic hay un sitio arqueológico en el patio de la Casa Cultural de la Parroquia de San Andrés, localizada en el centro del poblado. Destacan ahí piezas tales como la figura de Mixquixtli, diosa de la vida y de la muerte, y la escultura de un chac-mool, el mensajero de los dioses, misma que está franqueada por dos aros del Juego de pelota.

Además de poder realizar algún paseo por los canales en el área de chinampería, también se pueden efectuar reuniones familiares al aire libre, pues existe una isleta a la que se ha dotado de las instalaciones necesarias para eso.

Entre los hallazgos arqueológicos de San Andrés, se encuentra la escultura en piedra de Mixquixtli, diosa de la vida y de la muerte, ubicada en el antiguo panteón prehispánico, y la escultura de un chac-mool, mensajero de los dioses, flanqueado por dos arcos del Juego de
pelota y unas columnas con figuras de Quetzalcóatl.

El reconocimiento realizado para la obtención del certificado médico aeronáutico de clase 2 incorpora la elaboración de la historia médica y declaración de salud, la exploración y análisis de sangre y orina, una revisión de ORL y oftalmología, el electrocardiograma y la prueba de espirometría.
Cuando ya se han realizado todas las pruebas y exploraciones necesarias P&S Prevención y Salud elabora el informe médico y expide el certificado solicitado por el piloto.
Por otra parte, nuestro centro pondrá por vía telemática a disposición de las empresas aeronáuticas los informes y certificados que soliciten, siempre y cuando el paciente de su conformidad.

Para la obtención y/o renovación de la licencia, se requiere el cumplimiento de los siguientes requisitos físicos y psicológicos:
El piloto no padecerá ninguna enfermedad, defecto, lesión o secuela que pueda interferir con el ejercicio de sus funciones con seguridad. Particularmente importantes es la funcionalidad de extremidades superiores(brazos y manos) e inferiores
Ausencia comprobada de enfermedad mental o trastorno de la personalidad, que pueda interferir con la seguridad de vuelo.
personas equilibradas, capaces de trabajar en equipo con eficacia y seguridad.
En cuanto a los requisitos visuales y auditivos:
Agudeza visual lejana y cercana, con o sin lentes correctoras. Se permiten defectos de refracción de 3 dioptrías para pilotos privados.
Es preceptivo y a veces problemático, (ya que entre el 4-8% de los varones tienen algún tipo de defecto),una correcta visiòn de colores.
El piloto no debe padecer disfunciones auditivas que le impidan realizar una comunicación eficaz.

La cathédrale Saint-Trophime (Trophimus) est une église romane de la ville d'Arles.
L’église Saint-Trophime, ancienne cathédrale et primatiale, est située place de la République à Arles ; c’est une des plus intéressantes réalisations de l’art roman. Elle présente une nef et des bas-côtés voûtés datant du milieu du xiie siècle. Un magnifique portail sculpté est réalisé vers 1180-1190 et rivalise avec celui de Saint-Gilles. L’ancien clocher est remplacé au début du xiiie siècle par la tour carrée actuelle dont le dernier étage a été refait au xviie siècle. Le chœur et le déambulatoire datent du xve siècle.
Annexé à cette église se trouve le fameux cloître de Saint-Trophime, le plus célèbre de Provence ; l’accès se fait par la cour du bâtiment situé à côté de l'église. Il date de la seconde moitié du xiie siècle pour deux galeries et du xive siècle pour les deux autres.
Le cloître Saint-Trophime de l’ancienne cathédrale d’Arles date du xiie siècle et xive siècle. L’emplacement de ce cloître est inhabituel car il n’est accolé ni à la nef ni au transept. Il communique avec le chœur au moyen d’un escalier de vingt-cinq marches. Ce cloître présente une forme approximativement rectangulaire de 28 m de long sur 25 m de large. Des dimensions comparables ne se retrouvent dans la région Provence que dans les cloîtres du Thoronet, de Sénanque ou de Montmajour.
L’édification du cloître débute peu après 1150 avec la construction de la galerie nord qui sera suivie de peu par celle de la galerie orientale. Il faudra attendre la fin du xive siècle pour voir l’achèvement du cloître avec les constructions de la galerie ouest puis de la galerie sud qui sera terminée sous l’épiscopat de Jean de Rochechouart (1390-1398). Il résulte de ces différentes périodes de construction, deux styles différents pour les galeries : le roman pour les galeries nord et est, et le gothique pour les galeries ouest et sud.
Le cloître traduit une recherche de la perfection plastique avec un remarquable équilibre des volumes et une grande qualité de la décoration sculptée.

Catedral de Santa Cruz de Cádiz

La Catedral de Cádiz se empezó a construir en 1722 y no se terminó hasta el 28 de noviembre de1838.
Recibe el nombre de "Santa Cruz sobre el Mar" o "Santa Cruz sobre las Aguas"1aunque los gaditanos la denominan "Catedral Nueva" en contraposición a la Catedral Vieja (de la Santa Cruz), edificada en el siglo XVI sobre la antigua catedral gótica mandada construir por Alfonso X El Sabio, es el único templo de culto cristiano con cúpula amarilla (algo típico de la religión musulmana) así desde el mar se observaba la riqueza de Cádiz.
Está situada en la Plaza de la Catedral y es visible desde casi cualquier punto de la ciudad. Tiene horario de visitas tanto para el interior del recinto como para la Torre del Poniente. La misma entrada a la catedral sirve para acceder al Museo Catedralicio, situado en la Plaza Fray Félix junto a la Catedral Vieja.
Historia
Se trata de un edificio religioso de grandes proporciones que se comenzó a construir según proyecto del arquitecto Vicente Acero en 1722. Acero dejó el proyecto en 1739 y se hizo cargo de las obras Gaspar Casando en 1757 a su sobrino Torcuato Cayón. Tras su muerte en 1783, le sucede Miguel Olivares hasta 1790, fecha en la que empieza a dirigir la obra Manuel Machuca. Finalmente desde 1832 hasta su finalización las obras las dirige Juan Daura.
En los 116 años que tardó su construcción, se ve el cambio de estilo y los gustos de los distintos arquitectos, lo explica la mezcla de estilos, básicamente tres: barroco,rococó y neoclásico.
Los materiales que se emplearon fueron muy variados debido a las diferentes crisis económicas a las que tuvo que hacer frente la ciudad durante el período de construcción, así se puede observar mármol genovés para los diferentes altares y puertas, piedra caliza y piedra ostionera para los muros exteriores.
Fue el obispo Fray Domingo de Silos Moreno quien la bendijo en 1838. A causa del retraso de las obras, muchas partes del templo quedaron expuestas a los rigores del tiempo. Esto y la situación misma del edificio junto al mar ha provocado una enfermedad en la piedra que hace que ésta se vaya desmoronando poco a poco; es por ello por lo que las bóvedas del templo están cubiertas por redes que evitan que los cascotes caigan al suelo.
Características
La portada es una conjunción de formas cóncavas y convexas, característico del estilo barroco. Las torres que se levantan a ambos lados de la portada culminan en forma de observatorio astronómico; es un hecho excepcional que la Catedral de Cádiz posea campanarios de tal altura, puesto que estaba prohibido por los Borbones la construcción de tales estructuras, al constituir un blanco fácil para el enemigo.
Tiene planta de cruz latina y tres naves, quedando delimitado el espacio por conjuntos de columnas. El altar mayor consiste en un templete de estilo neoclásico dedicado a la Inmaculada Concepción. En todo el perímetro del templo se observan capillas (que en el momento de la construcción estaban dedicadas a albergar los talleres necesarios para la obra del templo) dedicadas a la figura del Ecce Homo (obra de "La Roldana") o a los patronos de la ciudad; San Servando y San Germán, entre otros. Una de éstas capillas alberga la monumental Custodia de plata, obra de Enrique de Arfe, que contiene la Sagrada Forma en la festividad de Corpus Christi. Cabe destacar las dos figuras en mármol de San Pedro y San Pablo que se encuentran junto a la entrada de las dos puertas menores de la catedral. Sobre la puerta principal se encuentran sendas estatuas de ellos .
Posee varias cúpulas, destacando dos; la cúpula mayor compuesta por un tambor y la propia cúpula se asienta sobre pechinas y en su exterior está cubierta de azulejos dorados que durante el día reflejan los rayos del Sol. Contigua a ésta se encuentra otra cúpula de menores dimensiones, situada sobre el altar mayor. Otra cúpula menor se sitúa sobre una sala dedicada a guardar diferentes reliquias y restos.
Bajo el altar mayor se encuentra la cripta, situada bajo el nivel del mar donde están enterrados personajes ilustres gaditanos como Manuel de Falla y José María Pemán. Un elemento interesante de la catedral es su coro; se sitúa en el centro, ante el altar mayor. Verdaderas obras de arte son la sillería del coro y los dos órganos que posee. La Catedral de Cádiz posee un extenso archivo musical de la antigua Capilla Musical, con obras de compositores como Padilla, García Fajer o Delgado. Actualmente existe una intención de recuperar del olvido todas estas obras que, en la mayoría de los casos, sólo se tocaron el día de su estreno para los oficios.

On Wednesday the 15 March 2023 we had a Service of Reflection and Thanksgiving in our Lady of the Assumption Church Ballyfermot celebrating its 70 year anniversary. There were 5 Speakers along to share with us their memories of the early years of the church.
The Ballyfermot Heritage Group would like to thank all that attended and all that looked in from around the world. Fr Adrien Egan, Fr Seamus Devitt, Margaret Kileen, and Ann Marie Murray who hosted the Service.
The Church Committee who served Tea and Coffee and refreshments, and Bernie Kennelly (Casey) for making the beautiful anniversary cake
Roseanna and Our Lady of the Assumption Choir. Val and the Ballyfermot Folk Group.
Sean Brennan from the Ballyfermot Heritage Group who compiled the Video of photos shown on the night. and all the heritage group for their involvement.
Our five Speakers that travelled far and near and to be there to share their memories
1 - Noel Clark who was the First Sacristan in 1953.
Mentioned also was - Richard Dick Cusack who was one of the Alter Boy’s on the Day of the Mass later to become Sacristan when Noel stepped down. Richard was back for the 65th Anniversary 2018 and passed away in 2022
Jack Roche who was the longest serving Sacristan 1959 -1993 34 Years
2- Deirdre Quigley Farrell who was at the first Mass with her mother
3 Sean Sherwin who lived next to the Church on Colepark Drive and his memories of early Ballyfermot
4- Margaret Canning One of the longest person in Our Lady of the Assumption Choir
5- Mary Keogh Fagan her, and her family’s involvement within the church
Also mentioned was Nicky Brennan 60 Years Volunteer in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Nicky died on the 19th December 2015
There were 5 Candles lit during the Service and prayers said by Fr Adrien.
1st Candle- for all the pioneering people that came to live in Ballyfermot new housing estate in 1948
2 Candle – For all that was baptised, and made their First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Married, Ordained to the Priesthood, and received the sacrament of the sick.
3 Candle – In memory of the people that suffered through abuse within the Church
4 Candle – People that bought a brick and helped whatever way to build the church and our beloved people that has died over many years.
5 Candle – A Candle of hope and looking forward to the years ahead. People will always feel they are welcome within the church
