Heading into Montblanc on the coach. We would spend around an hour or so here, including time for some lunch that day. We were coming from Poblet Monastery.
Montblanc (Catalan pronunciation: [mumˈblaŋ]) is the capital of the Catalan comarca Conca de Barberà, in the province of Tarragona. The Prades Mountains are located in the vicinity of this town.
The municipality comprises the settlements of Montblanc (2013 population 7,027), La Guàrdia dels Prats (200), Lilla (88), Prenafeta (61), Rojals (26), and El Pinetell (7).
The area around Montblanc has been inhabited for thousands of years. Evidence of cave dwellings have been found dating back to Palaeolithic times.
From the 4th to the 1st century BC Iberian villages existed on Santa Bàrbara hill. These villages coexisted with the early Roman settlers. Evidence of Roman artifacts have been found which date from between the 2nd century BC to the 2nd century AD.
After the invasion by the Moors in 711 AD, much of the area became dominated by a patchwork of Islamic fiefdoms. The Islamic invasion initiated a long period of very successful agricultural and commercial development. This was responsible for the birth of many towns and villages in the region which still retain their Islamic names.
The 10th and 11th centuries seem to have been a period of relatively peaceful coexistence in which Muslims, Christians and Jews lived in the region of Montblanc. This productive period continued until an allegiance of forces, strongly supported by the Roman Catholic Church, initiated an era of expulsions, which forced the Moors, the Jews and many of the interbred mixed race peoples to leave the Iberian peninsula.
Maties Palau Ferré (1921-2000), painter and sculptor, disciple of Pablo Picasso, was born and died in Montblanc.

The Drascombe Longboat is a type of open voyaging sailboat trademarked by John Watkinson which he designed and built in the period 1965-79 and sold in the United Kingdom (UK). They have wide and deep cockpits, adaptable boomless rigs and high bulwarks. Later boats of this name were manufactured and sold in the United States as well. Longboat production began in 1970 according to the vessel's Wikipedia page at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drascombe.
The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding has been formally licensed by the Watkinson family to build the Drascombe Longboat.
This first vessel, on which construction began in January, 2014, will be built for the National Outdoor Leadership School in Mexico (NOLS Mexico) and used by them for coastal voyaging in Mexico. www.nols.edu/
The Drascombe Longboat is 21 feet 9 inches long with a beam of 6 feet 3 inches. The vessels have a yawl rug, and carry 172 square feet of sail.
The vessel will weigh about 880 pounds when complete, although we expect that our version, modified to meet the requirements of NOLS Mexico will weight somewhat more than that. www.nols.edu/courses/locations/mexico/mxsemester.shtml

Timi Yuro was an Italian-American gal who could belt out a ballad with such power she could peel paint. She had an undeniable soulful quality but also a keen sense of jazz phrasing . . . as well as pulling r'n'b and country music into the mix. Her first big hit was Hurt in 1961 and she followed it with the equally good What's a Matter Baby (Is It Hurting You?) the following year. Timi Yuro a lady who possessed a tremendous and unique voice. She made some great records.

Retired Korean general visits Camp Humphreys

CAMP HUMPHREYS – Retired Gen. Paik, Sun-yup, the first four-star general in Korean history, visited Camp Humphreys on May 24.
Besides being his country’s first four-star general, Paik also served as Korea’s minister of transportation and ambassador to Taiwan and France.
At Humphreys, Paik was greeted by Mark Cox, United States Army Garrison Humphreys deputy commander. Cox gave a briefing that addressed Humphreys transformation. The number of Soldiers stationed at Humphreys is expected to grow in the coming years by 238 percent, from 6,670 to 22,497, and the number of families is on track to grow by 1,270 percent. To accommodate the new arrivals, Humphreys is in the midst of the largest construction project in the history of the Department of Defense.
“I am really pleased to hear that construction on post has been going well,” Paik said. “That speaks well of the post commander and leadership.”
Paik also met with Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA) Soldiers, who were impressed with the retired general.
“Despite his age, it was evident he still had very strong willpower,” said Cpl. Ahn, Ji-hawn, a KATUSA. “He was also very ambitious and I was extremely impressed. It was such an honor for me to meet him.”
“This was one of those experiences that you remember for life,” added another KATUSA, Cpl. Kim, Jong-hyun. “He is a legendary general and it was such an honor for me to meet him and listen to his words. This was a great experience for me.”
Paik then received a windshield tour of post and had lunch at the Alaska Mining Company.

The exhibition honors the work of this year's Emmy®-nominated Costume Designers, Costume Supervisors and Assistant Costume Designers. Highlighted with Emmy-nominated costumes from 9 television shows, the exhibition includes over 100 costumes from a total of 24 shows.
The FREE exhibit will be open from Tuesday, August 21, 2018 through Saturday, October 6, 2018. Hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Closed Sunday/Monday. For more info visit www.FIDMmuseum.org

Bir kadın salınarak, şehrin en şık ve ışıklı caddesinde yürür, önüne bir tinerci çıkar.. Kadından para ister.. Kadın çantasını tinerci çocuğun yanında açmak istemediği için, tinerci çocuğu görmezden gelir, hızlıca kalabalığın arasında kaybolur....
Bu minimini hadiseye önem vermeden keyifle mağzaların ışıklarına dalar.. Oysa bu hadise kadının bıçaklanmasına veya kadının evinde bıraktığı minimini bir yavrunun gıpta ile sevdiği annesinin yaralanmasına, taciz edilmesine sebep olabilirdi...
Kadın mı mühim tinerci çocuk mu, diye düşünmek nasıl aklımıza gelmiyorsa ve tüm bu daha önce benzerleri defalarca yaşanmış olaylar gibi "hayat işte" deyip kabul edip yolumuza devam edebiliyorsak, hayatın daha başka türlü bir çok cilvelere de aynı sabırla katlamaya mecburuz..
Acaba hakikat gerçekten böyle mi?
Dünyada önüne geçemeyeceğimiz mevzular var ve biz bunların sebep ve mantıklarını tüm çabamıza rağmen anlayamıyoruz.
Fakat bazı mantıksızlar ve yolsuzluklar var ki, güya tabiattan örnek alınarak yapıldığı halde, yapılmaması mümkün..
Bazı şeyleri insan hayatı için ne derece lüzumlu olduğunu anlamaya imkan yok....

I spend so much time focusing on the Pittsburgh skyline, I have a tendency to forget about some of the buildings. Kind of a missing the forest for the trees thing. This is a collection of shots of some of the most well known buildings in Pittsburgh, from the Steel Building, to PPG Place to the Highmark Building. Most of these were captured with my 70-200 f2.8, however I did use my recently acquired 2x teleconverter for a handful as well.

Hoy acabo esta serie del parque de la naturaleza de Cabárceno. Y lo hago con una secuencia en tres fases de la bocaza de este bellezón. Se trata de un hipopótamo enano. Este es un macho, y como veis es tan guapo como yo. Tiene cara de simpático, eso si, cuando abre esa bocaza impone, vaya si impone.
Volveré a Cabárceno, y espero conseguir más fotos como las de esta serie que me han divertido mucho.
Ahora comienza el fin de semana y se abren nuevas oportunidades fotográficas. A saber que traeré el Lunes........
