La presencia simultánea durante el verano de numerosas poblaciones de aves terrestres y acuáticas entre las que se destacan tres especies de flamencos: Phoenicoparrus jamesi; Phoenicoparrus andinus y Phoenicoparrus chilensis, le confieren un particular colorido al ambiente.
Es posible observar además avocetas y gaviotas andinas, piuquenes, playeritos, chorlos, patos, pisacas y rapaces como el águila mora, carancho andino y el halcón plomizo, entre otros.

I had been up all night, to try to catch some stars, but it never really got dark enough for the stars to come out, but more on that in another post.
I ended up at a bridge called "Aggersund Bridge" where I had the most amazing sunrise. this is a photo made in the opposite direction of the sun, and af few minutes before it came up over the horizon.

I took this picture a few days ago at the European Parliament in Brussels. I met Mathieu Grosch during an important debate between representatives of the Braives village (lead by Pol Guillaume, Mayor of Braives) and several Eurodeputies. The meeting was meant to improve the relationship between local entities in Belgium (especially Braives) and European institutions. This is actually something really new that might have huge repercussions for many little cities in Europe.

He is a substitute for the Committee on Regional Development, a member of the Delegation to the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee and a substitute for the Delegation dealing with relations with Japan.

The Fodero Dining Car Company (1933–1981) was a diner manufacturer located in Newark and later Bloomfield, NJ. It was founded by Italian immigrant Joseph Fodero, who formed the company after constructing diners with P.J. Tierney & Sons and Kullman Industries.
Fodero diners are known for their stainless steel exteriors and art deco appearance.
Many diners constructed by the company remain in operation. Diners constructed by the company are located primarily in the Northeastern United States, especially New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The Asiatic Society of Calcutta estimates that the first formal puja of Durga was held around 1606 A.D. at the present Baghbazar area in Kolkata by a zamindar Pran Krishna Halder. Four years later, the Kumartuli's 'Kumars' (potters) started making the idols of mother goddess Durga in clay for the neo-rich feudal lord Laxmikanta Roy Mazumder, who is the first patron of Kolkata's potter's town and initiator of the puja of Durga in clay idols.
Durga Puja - the ceremonial worship of the supremely radiant mother goddess, is one of the most important festivals, is celebrated every year in the month of October with much gaiety and grandeur in India and abroad, especially in Bengal, where the ten-armed goddess riding the lion and killing the Buffalo-Demon (Mahishasura) is worshiped with great passion and devotion. In Durga, the Gods bestowed their powers to co-create a beautiful goddess with ten arms, each carrying their most lethal weapon. The tableau of Durga also features her four children - Kartikeya, Ganesha, Saraswati and Lakshmi.

La Catedral de Burgos es una catedral dedicada a la Virgen María. Su construcción comenzó en 1221, siguiendo patrones góticos franceses. Tuvo importantísimas modificaciones en los siglos XV y XVI (agujas de la fachada principal, capilla del Condestable, cimborrio del crucero: estos elementos del gótico avanzado dotan al templo de su perfil inconfundible). Las últimas obras de importancia (la sacristía o la capilla de Santa Tecla) pertenecen al siglo XVIII, siglo en el que también se retiraron las estatuas góticas de las puertas de la fachada principal. A principios del XX se eliminaron algunas construcciones que habían sido adosadas al templo, como el Palacio Arzobispal y el piso superior del claustro. El estilo de la catedral es el gótico, aunque posee algunas obras renacentistas y barrocas.
En la catedral se conservan obras de artistas extraordinarios, como los arquitectos y escultores de la familia Colonia (Juan, Simón y Francisco), los escultores Gil de Siloé, Felipe Vigarny o Juan de Anchieta, el escultor y arquitecto Diego de Siloé, el rejero Cristóbal de Andino o el pintor Sebastiano del Piombo ("Sagrada Familia en un paisaje"), entre otros muchos.
La catedral fue declarada "Patrimonio de la Humanidad" por la UNESCO el 31 de octubre de 1984. Es la única catedral española que tiene esta distinción de forma independiente, sin estar unida al centro histórico de una ciudad (como en Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Ávila, Córdoba, Toledo o Cuenca) o en compañía de otros edificios, como en Sevilla.
El diseño de la fachada principal está relacionada con el más puro estilo gótico francés de las grandes catedrales de París y de Reims. Consta de tres cuerpos rematados por dos torres laterales de planta cuadrada. Las agujas caladas de influencia germánica se añadieron en el siglo XV y son obra de Juan de Colonia.
Algunos elementos de gran interés de dentro de la catedral son el Papamoscas, estatua articulada que abre la boca al dar las campanadas de las horas, el sepulcro románico de Mudarra el hermanastro vengador de la muerte de los siete infantes de Lara (trasladado a la catedral desde su emplazamiento original en el monasterio de San Pedro de Arlanza tras su abandono por la desamortización), las sillas labradas del coro, el sepulcro del Obispo Mauricio, la tumba de Cid y su esposa Doña Jimena, la carta de arras del Cid y su cofre

West window by Douglas Strachan, part of the full scheme of windows commissioned for the chapel in1921.
Westminster College stands to the north of Cambridge's centre and is primarily a theological college for the training of ministers in the United Reformed Church. The present buildings were designed by Henry Hare and built between 1897–1899.
The reason for my visit was the chapel which is hidden away behind the main frontage. This low vaulted space is remarkable for its glass, a complete scheme of windows by Scottish stained glass artist Douglas Strachan, a symphony of swirling forms and rich colours emanating from all of the thirteen windows. The apse and west windows are relatively small, but the windows on each side of the chapel are larger and more dramatic works illustrating Old and New Testament themes respectively..

This college is off the tourist trail and thus not so widely known or visited, but knowing of the glorious glass I enquired about seeing the chapel at reception and the nice lady there happily let me in and pointed me in the right direction which was very much appreciated, and the chapel's windows really are hidden gems.

Inspired by Monet's paintings of Rouen Cathedral (take a look here www.learn.columbia.edu/monet/swf/ ) I decided to try something a little different to capture the imposing structure of the building and the delicate brightly coloured glass, which becomes the main focus for the eye once inside. It was also a chance to try out a feature of my new camera which I haven't tried before. It's a double exposure made in camera and made only once as the two viewpoints were a good few hundred meters apart. The first frame was a slightly over exposed shot of the cathedral facade taken under overcast sky and flat light and the second a slightly blurred shot of a stained glass window near the altar. I chose the window I felt was the most vibrant of all those around the cathedral and had a good mix of colours. All in camera, the two shots become a single RAW file which I converted to TIFF boosting the saturation and contrast a little. Whadaya reckon?

O Palácio de Estói, é um pastiche rococó, em Faro, Portugal, único na região.
O palácio foi ideia de um nobre local[1] que morreu pouco depois do ínicio da construção em meados dos anos de 1840.[2] Outra personalidade local, José Francisco da Silva, adquiriu o palácio e completou-o em 1909. Foi feito visconde de Estói graças ao dinheiro e esforços que despendeu na sua construção. O trabalho foi dirigido pelo arquitecto Domingos da Silva Meira, cujo interesse pela escultura é evidente. O interior do palácio, em pastel e estuque, está a ser restaurado e irá ser uma pousada.
O palácio tem também uns jardins com laranjeiras e palmeiras, que condizem com o seu alegre estilo rococó. O terraço inferior exibe um pavilhão e azulejos azuis e brancos, a Casa da Cascata, no interior da qual se encontra uma cópia das Três Graças, de Canova. O terraço superior , o Patamar da Casa do Presépio, tem um grande pavilhão com vitrais, fontes decoradas com ninfas e nichos em azulejos.
O palácio foi classificado como Imóvel de Interesse Público em 1977.
Em 2006 as «Preguiças», duas esculturas femininas de tamanho real, importadas de Itália, de incalculável valor, com 200 quilos cada uma, foram furtadas do palácio algarvio. As esculturas eram o «ex-libris» dos jardins do paço. O Palácio de Estói foi totalmente remodelado pelo Arq. Gonçalo Byrne e passou a ser uma das "Pousadas de Charme" do Algarve. Faz parte das Pousadas de Portugal. Entretanto estão a construir réplicas das duas estátuas "desaparecidas".

From the diptych I uploaded yesterday
Except I did not manipulate this on Photoshop, unlike that seen in the diptych.
I looked at my diptychs on my brother's PC (which he built himself) and I was horrified!!!! The pictures' colors were super saturated that they were an eyesore! my other pictures on Flickr, however, looked fine. in fact some of them (especially my fisheyes) looked better. My brother told me the high saturation of images might be caused by the graphics card he installed.
This reminded me of a Koranteng Ofosu-Amaah's essay titled "Cultural Sensitivity in Technology" which I read for my Culture, Art, and Technology class. I used his essay as an example in a couple of my writing assignments. Surprisingly my other classmates didn't really look to his passage when it came to writing their own assignments... I think I found Ofosu-Amaah's essay useful as an example for my topics more than my classmates did because I'm able to connect to his essay. He explained the flaws of a software (Adobe Photoshop) and website (Flickr) that I often use. I recommend this reading; it's one of those things that makes you nod your head. :D

La cuidad de Umán se encuentra hacia el suroeste de la capital del Estado de Yucatán y es cabecera del municipio del mismo nombre, en el antiguo departamento de Hunucmá.
LOCALlZACION
El predio de la Parroquia y ex convento de San Francisco de Asís se encuentra ubicado en el centro de la población, frente a la plaza principal y hacia el sur de ella, sobre la calle 20 de la manzana 1ª y cuartel 2°; colinda al norte, con la calle 21, al sur, con la calle 23, al este, con la calle 18, y al oeste, con la calle 20.
HISTORIA DEL CONVENTO
No existen datos precisos de la época de la construcción de esta bella parroquia, pero por informes obtenidos se sabe que fué obra de los frailes franciscanos del siglo XVIII y que de época más anterior aún, es la capilla anexa o primer templo del lugar. Hasta principios del siglo pasado el corredor externo del ex convento lució y dió belleza al edificio; actualmente esta zona es empleada como oficinas parroquiales, salones de juntas para los grupos apostólicos y como banqueta pública en donde la gente puede sentarse a platicar ya que ofrece una vista excelente hacia la plaza pública de la ciudad.
Por el año de 1913, durante la época gubernamental del ingeniero Eleuterio Avila, aprovechándose del caos del período preconstitucional, ordenó que se abriera la actual calle 18 que pasa por el fondo del predio demoliendo dos piezas de mampostería del ex convento y segregando la mayor parte de la huerta que ahora forma el terreno que se ve lindando con las calles 21, 23, 16-A y 18. Este terreno es el que ahora es empleado como campo de softball.
La Iglesia Parroquial de Umán fué concluida en los últimos años del siglo XVIII, aplicando los gastos a los espolios del Obispo de Yucatán Fr. Luis de Peña y Mazo, -quien murió en Mérida el año de 1796. Ya en 1679 la Parroquia de Umán habla sido secularizada y entregada a la clerecía.
DESCRIPCION
Este predio se compone de la parroquia, sacristía, la capilla de San Pedro y San Pablo, el ex convento, el atrio, el cementerio y la huerta. En la figura 1 podemos observar el plano de todo el predio.

Background:
The Commemoration of the Rwanda Genocide is an annual event of the African Union held following the Decision to commemorate 7 April as a day of remembrance of the victims of the genocide and reaffirmation of Africa’s resolve to present and fight genocide on the Continent. It is also in accordance with the objectives and principles of the African Union on the promotion of good governance, human rights, rule of law and ending impunity as enshrined in its Constitutive Act.
The event will be organised jointly by the African Union and the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda.
Media representatives are invited to cover the event on 7 April 2015 at 10:00 am, at the AU Headquarters.
