Crazy Tuesday: Negative Space
It's that time of year when a cup of hot chocolate will warm you up on a cold winter day.
The smell was amazing... sweet with a hint of cinnamon, nutmeg and something different... unusual... something summery... It was coconut flakes.
The little girl was again at the window... This time watching the dance of the snowflakes...
Huh... It resembled more of a battle than a dance, but it was captivating... and she could not stop thinking:
Where do snowflakes come from? Do they go home? (she didn't notice that she was thinking aloud)
Hahaha... I see you've not changed... you're still curious? (a laughter was heard)
You are back! (said the little girl with excitement)
I'm back and this time I dance with the snowflakes (answered the wind)
But it's not a dance... it's a clash... a fight... (protested the little girl and took a sip from the warm mug)
Hahaha... and still clever... Hahaha... Let's make it a dance... Shall we? (continued the wind, amused)
And suddenly the little ice crystals started to move slower... No more violent gusts... They were replaced by a soft and gentle floating motion that resembled a dance... It was magical, but different than the dance of the leaves... It was a waltz of enchanted icy feathers and little pieces of stars...
I see you have some snowflakes in your mug... (said the wind)
Yes... I wanted to taste the winter... but with a speck of summer (the little girl smiled and then sipped the last of her hot "winter with a speck of summer" chocolate)
You should join the snowflakes... Maybe even build a snow castle... (suggested the wind)
I think I will... Winter is magical... it can make everything look beautiful, new and pure... and... I want to catch some snowflakes with my new mittens... (concluded the little girl and you could see on her face that she was making plans on how to capture the stars)

Even here in the south it gets cold and wet. Hot chocolate is something to look forward to when it's dreary outside. This one has cinammon and marshmallows. How do you make yours?
Under cover dealer, well under the umbrella dealer of hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot apple cider, every year at the ice rink.
Stopped for hot chocolate at a quaint cafe called Cahua, in Koblenz, Germany and heard this town was famous for their chocolate. Unbelievably delicious and the cups were so unique, too! On a side note...we were sitting in front of this window and watched this truck unload belongings to a home. It was at least three stories and there was not an elevator....many stairs and the couch had to be lifted up to a window by crane.

Especially for the group ‘Crazy Tuesday’ and its theme today of ”Chocolate”, we have my posting of how I make a very tasty mug of hot chocolate!
I use Galaxy instant Hot Chocolate and although it states to add to hot water IGNORE!
I fill a mug with cold milk, pile spoonful after spoonful of chocolate powder on the top until you have a nice little pyramid! About six spoonfuls? Don’t stir just yet but warm gently in the microwave for one minute or so, stir thoroughly, warm again, stir some more and keep repeating this until it’s hot enough for you. A final good stir then………it’s ready to enjoy!

Ah! Yes! Perhaps I should have stayed a bit longer in the Hortus and had myself a hot chocolate against the chill of walking in the garden. But having to cook a meal for a guest tonight it was wiser to return home...
And neither did I get even a whiff of chocolate from this Chocolate Vine now in full blossom. It gets its English vernacular name from the purported aroma but perhaps there's too much chill today. Our plant was first described for the West under the name Rajania quinata by Carl Peter Thunberg (1743-1828) whom I've often mentioned in these pages. He put together a marvelous Flora Japonica (1784) in which he discusses the plants he found in Japan during his stay on the island of Dejima (in the harbor of Nagasaki) in the service of the Dutch East Indies Trading Company (VOC).
Tomorrow ( Tuesday) is National Hot Chocolate Day so I made some today with our cold temps down to 12*.

Hello and good morning. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, my Hubby and I went to Manchester to do some Christmas shopping on Friday and stay the night in a hotel.
On Saturday morning there was a 'severe weather warning' we couldn't sleep as the winds were gusting through the city centre and whistling by the hotel room. We decided to get up and start our journey back to Suffolk early to make sure we got home safely. All was well for a while, then the sleet started about 5am, the winds were high and we have a 4x4, we could feel the Range Rover being pushed across the road, we just thought that would be all. A little later as we approached Birmingham on the Motorway the biggest scariest snow storm hit the motorway. No gritters had been out, we had taken the Toll Road, no lights, no salt, no tractors clearing the snow, we were totally alone on the this empty motorway, We had blankets and water and snow boots but we didn't want to stop or get stuck so persevered. At times we lost our bearings, we were totally snow blinded, it was coming in so fast on the windscreen, even the 4x4 was sliding. There was no road to see, eventually we were literally driving via guess work. After five hours we made it home...
I said to my hubby I haven't had an adventure for ages, well it certainly was, careful what you wish for...
Yesterday was hot chocolate and movies.... and no snow!

Quick Cup of Comfort:
1 c. milk
1 T. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 T. sugar
2 T. chocolate chips (dark is best)
1/8 t. vanilla extract
Lots and lots of whipped cream
Place milk, cocoa powder and sugar in small saucepan. Stir frequently until warm but not boiling.
Add chocolate chips and stir until they melt and blend into milk mixture.
Stir in vanilla, pour into mug that you love and serve immediately with a large can of whipped cream nearby.
Double the recipe if you have two mugs and one other person that you love nearby.
Who knew there was a National Hot Chocolate Day?
Well, in case you are like me and did not know it was 31 Jan. I figured that just because I was two days late in celebrating I should still savor the day and make a nice cup of Tim Horton's Hot Chocolate. Of course it would not be the same without whipped cream. Not like Timmies mind you but hey, a girl has to improvise.
