Now that it's officially autumn, I think it's appropriate to post a picture of an old leaf that has warm colors. This came from our fruitless mulberry tree, and soon there will be literally thousands of them on the ground.

Lighting: Lit with a Yongnuo flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box hand held on the right side at 2 o'clock. Fill light came from a hand held mirror at camera left at 8 o'clock. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N. Using side lighting creates the shadows that reveal shapes and textures.

I find leaves to be beautiful objects from nature and have an album of over 60 pictures of them if you like that sort of thing. Here's the link to the album.

This was from a one light setup with a Yongnuo flash in a soft box at camera left and just out of the frame. I used side lighting because that creates the shadows that reveal shapes and textures. Fill light came from a small hand held mirror at camera right.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are now at least 1400 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/

This colorful plant is growing in a container in our garden, so I brought it indoors to photograph where it's easier to control the light.

I brought this beautiful shell back from Baja California, Mexico six years ago because I thought it was worthy and wanted to photograph it with a proper lighting setup.

Lighting: I propped this up on a piece of black Perspex, and then lit it with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastoite soft box positioned at camera left. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

It's spring and a lot of the succulent plants in our garden are putting out new heads, like this one that I picked this afternoon. I brought it indoors to photograph where I don't have overpower the sun with my flash.

a wonderful moment in the studio for this great shot.

Lighting: Lit with a two Yongnuo manual strobes. One was in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held at camera left, and the other was in a Rogue grid positioned behind the flower at camera right. The two strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

This is a flower that I picked three days ago, and today I wanted to focus in on some of the details of the flower that had changed during the past few days.

Lighting stuff: The main light was a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box on a light stand at camera left, and back lighting came from a bare Yongnuo flash in a Rogue grid positioned behind the flower at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

We had a rare rain event today in San Diego County and I brought this succulent plant inside to photograph because it had rain drops on it. Now, we probably didn't get more than a tenth off an inch of rain, but it's better than nothing.

This plant is in a pot, and I brought it indoors to photograph where it's easier to control the light. It was in the 90's this afternoon when I decided to photograph this succulent flower-head, so I brought it indoors where it was cooler and darker so that I wouldn't need as much flash power.

Lighting: This was a three light setup using two Yongnuo manual strobes positioned in front, on either side, and pointing at the center so that the lighting would be even, and a third light in a Rogue grid behind the flower at camera right for back lighting. The strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

A roadside flower from a parking light. I brought it home to photograph where it's easier to control the light.

Lighting stuff: This was a two light setup using Yongnuo manual strobes in 8.6 inch Lastolite soft boxes positioned in front of the flowers, on both sides, and pointing at the center at a 45 degree angle for even lighting. The strobes and my tripod mounted program were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I think I prefer this bright style of editing, compared to the previous Candyman. creates the effect I want better :)

Think this my last one from the series, I didn't really so much in variation with the shoot, just wanted to get at least one good picture, if upload more, would just get a bit repetitive.

I go to Brunei and then Singapore in a week :D

This is a flower that I picked from alongside the road in our rural neighborhood. I brought it home to photograph where it's easier to photograph, and I don't have to kneel down in the dirt. A lot to be said for that.

I placed it on a piece of black Perspex and lit it with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held at camera left. I picked this flower from my sister's garden yesterday afternoon, and then brought it home to photograph where I have my lighting equipment set up.

Lighting: The main light was a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box positioned at camera left. I first placed the flower on a piece of black Perspex because I often like to have reflections in my flower pictures because I believe it makes the flower appear more three dimensional and also reveals a different view of the flower.

I lit the flower with one manual Yongnuo flash in a 24 inch gridded soft box at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light came from a small hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and camera were both triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

A friend of ours gave us this a few years back, and I thought it might be fun to finally photograph it.

Lighting: Lit with a Yongnuo flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box positioned at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light came from a hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1900 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/

I brought this beautiful rose from our garden into the house to photograph where it's easier to control the light.

Lighting stuff: This was a two light setup using two Yongnuo manual strobes in 8.6 inch Lastolite soft boxes positioned on both sides of the flower and pointed at the center. The strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.
