This is an Amaryllis flower which we were given for Christmas, and which I'm documenting as it opens up with a beautiful flower. This is the fourth day, so I'm enjoying watching how it progresses.

Lighting: Lit with one Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box positioned at camera left, and just out of the frame. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1900 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/

We actually got a little rain today so I picked this rose from the garden and brought it indoors to exploit where it's easier to control the light.

Wishing peace, love, good health and prosperity to all my Flickr friends, whether I have known you for over a dozen years or starting today. May the Spirit watch over you always.

This is one of the many cactus and succulent plants that we have on our property, and it's because of the ongoing drought in the western United States. This plant came in to flower today, and I brought it inside to photograph late in the afternoon.

Lighting: Simple lighting from a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lazstolite soft box hand held at camera left and just out of the frame. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I photographed these beautiful flowers this afternoon indoors where it's easier to control the light, and where it wasn't 100 degrees.

Lighting: The main light was a Yongnuo manual strobe in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box positioned at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light is from a mirror at camera right and a little back lighting is from a 2nd strobe in a Rogue grid positioned behind the flower at camera right. I photographed this indoors where I could control the light.

Lighting stuff: Lit with a Yongnuo manual flash in a soft box at camera left, and a second flash with a Rogue grid behind the flower for back lighting. The strobes and my camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

We don't have any rose bushes currently in bloom so I dug this up from the archives.

Lighting stuff: This was a two light setup using Yongnuo manual strobes. The back lighting is from a flash in a Rogue grid positioned behind and to the left of the flower and the fill light on the right side is from a strobe in a Lastolite soft box. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

My first (new) shot in ages :-)

I had to employ the tripod, an oddity for me, as I shoot almost exclusively handheld.

in the studio,

can not be in one room whit a cat but other then that she is a very very sweet little girl.

I found these flowers this afternoon while walking in our rural neighborhood, and brought them home to photograph where it's easier to control the light.

This was a two light setup using Yongnuo manual strobes in 8.6 inch Lastolite soft boxes positioned in front of the flowers and pointing at the center at a 45 degree angle for even lighting. The strobes and my tripod mounted program were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Reading about the Doppler Effect on sound and light waves. Sounds interesting but still confused. Thought that these twin rotations look a little like some of the scientific diagrams that they provide to try and visually explain this strange effect.

There was a time in my life (a long time ago) when I was part owner of a small commercial boat and worked with a few family members and a deck hand as a commercial sea urchin diver. Welcome. This is my most popular picture.

On a weekday night, we had some fun at my studio, testing light patterns, and trying to control that little not-so-furry thing that was moving around all the time. With its expressive face, its big eyes, I thought that it would do great stock photography.

I picked some Gazinia flowers yesterday that were growing alongside the road in our rural neighborhood, and brought them home to light indoors where it's easier to control the light, and where I don't have to squat alongside the road.

Lighting: This was a two lights shot using Yongnuo manual strobes. Behind the flower at camera right I used a Rogue grid to back light the flower. Fill light is from a second Yongnuo strobe in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box at camera left and in front of the flower. The strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

We had a rare event in southern California today in that light rain fell from the skies. Free water - welcome and unexpected. I went outside and picked a hibiscus flower that had actual rain drops on it. Not a lot - but there were some drops as you can see from the above image.

Lighting: Lit with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box at camera left, a mirror at camera right and a 2nd flash with a Rogue grid behind the flower at camera left. The strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I brought this rebloomer iris flower in from the garden this afternoon to photograph. The nice thing about these rebloomers is that they bloom throughout the year. It's not one and done.

Lighting: Lit with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box hand held at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light came from a hand mirror at camera right. How's that for cheap lighting? The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Well, the sun finally came out today after a long wet spell and I was able to go out into the garden to find a flower I could bring inside to exploit. There are nasturtiums all over the place right now, so I grabbed one.

Lighting: A two light setup with the main light being a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held at camera left. I also back lit the flower with another Yongnuo flash in a Rogue grid behind the flower at camera right. The two strobes, and my tripod mounted camera, were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Mitt bidrag till Fotosöndag och veckans tema «selfie».

My contribution for this week's theme «selfie»; for the Swedish photo group Fotosondag.

We recently visited friends in Prescott, Arizona, and while we were there we documented some of their musical instruments. This is a resonator ukulele which I though was a beautiful subject and challenging to light.

Lighting. We lit this using two bare yongnuo strobes in manual mode which were on either side of and pointed at the white ceiling directly over the Ukulele. The bounced light provided the illumination for the picture. The strobes and our cameras were triggered with Yongnuo RF-603N triggers.

When I went out to get the paper this morning this flower was open on one of our cacti so I brought it inside to photograph where it's easier to control the light.

The main light was a Yongnuo manaul flash in an 8.5 inch Lastolite soft box positioned at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I picked this off of a Poinsettia plant today because I liked the range and mixture of colors that it has.

Lighting: I first placed the leaf on a piece of black Perspex and then lit it from the side with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box hand held at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

For each image in the set, and there are over 1700 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/

I love leaves and find them to be beautiful art objects from nature. Accordingly, I have an album with over 80 images in it, and you can find it here if you like that kind of thing.

This plant was sitting in a pot this afternoon and was backlit by the window behind it, making it look beautiful, to my eyes, anyways. I love back lighting, and this plant looked the better for it. I stuck a piece of black Perspex behind it to isolate the leaves from the background.

This is a Bird Of Paradise flower that I picked a couple of days ago and brought indoors to photograph where it's easier to control the light. It's opened up some more "feathers" since I first photographed it, and I wanted to document them.

Lighting stuff: I back lit the flower with a Yongnuo manual flash in a rogue grid behind the flower at camera right. Fill light in the front came from second flash in a 24 inch soft box at camera left and third flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held, at camera right. The strobes and my camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N
