Flat topped Black Mesa contains the highpoint ( 4973 ft) of Oklahoma. Black Mesa gets its name from the dark volcanic rock that it is made from. You can see some of this rock in the lower right corner of the photo. Black Mesa extends into New Mexico and parts of it are higher than this location. In any event the hole top of the mesa looks quite flat.

Mount Marcy Trail

A 360-degree view from the top of Mt. Marcy. It was nearly impossible to find a time when the top of the mountain wasn't crowded AND clear skies all the way around.

It took us longer than we thought it would to get down, but we didn't quite have to reach for the headlamps again. We got to the bottom around 7:45pm.
