Was testing some light for high key portraits.

Sony A7R with 85MM 1.4 Sony lens
Used one large softbox from right side not directly aimed at model to catch soft light from edges and made sure bottem of softbox was slightly below chin height and top of softbox above head height. Was shot outside so had cloudy sunlight as fill from left. Behind model is a tree which should be slightly visible, but isnt due to increased contrast with upload to flickr I think.

Now preserved as a tourist attraction, this is one of the most spectacular pieces of carving to survive in Ireland. The effects of erosion have not obliterated the images to the realm of guess-work
A persistent high-pressure system off the Southern California coast is currently deflecting El Niño storms and clearing the skies for some beautiful sunsets. The passing contrail really anchored it for me, giving an almost cosmic quality.
Nikkormat FT, TMAX 100, Xtol 1:1 @ 68F for 8:30 (1 min less than dev chart), scanned with Epson V700 and touched up in Picasa.
Not too bad for a first attempt at high key photography. Lots of lamps and a long suffering partner.

The rider attempts to stay on the horse for eight seconds without touching the horse with his free hand. On the first jump out of the chute, the rider must "mark the horse out". This means he must have the heels of his boots in contact with the horse above the point of the shoulders before the horse's front legs hit the ground.
While just hanging on for 8 seconds will get you a score, to finish in the money you must show some degree of body control most evident by spurring action in rhythm with the horse's leaps.

this is lulu's new trick. it's not actually a high five. the command is "wave" and then she raises her paw up high and waves it through the air a couple times like she is swatting invisible insects.
it's terribly cute.
