The features on the horizon are oil pumpjacks. The bird over the sun is a Common Nighthawk...they truly are common there. "High" is a relative term here in this low-lying part of the world but it's high enough that houses do not need to be on stilts to guard against storm surges.

This artist was painting the skyline of NYC from the High Line Park. The setting sun was shining on his paint and brushes, and I couldn't resist taking a few shots of him!

Inspired by the recent works of Peter Moons, Daniel Deltour and others, I plan to create an ongoing series of pics around electrical infrastructure.
I work with this stuff nearly every day yet Daniel and Peter's images have opened my eyes to a new way of looking at the often less than appealing powerlines and electrical infrastructure. Many of these assets have unique and unusal shapes and textures, not often seen by the general public (other than the poles & wires assets).
Anyway, I hope this series will be seen as appreciation and recognition of the similar inspiring works of others, rather than an attempted concept knock-off!

The high building was constructed inside of Convento do Carmo (Convent of Carmo), from 1619. Today the convent building is the Cândido Mendes University. The photo below was taken from inside of Paço Imperial, from 1738, today a cultural center.

This is a cool spot to stand. To the left the creek is fast and swift before it plunges over the falls and then on the other side of the rock is a cliff down to the water where it there is a pool on the other side of the arch in front of the falls.
I saw an albino black bear in the forest, bleaching and weathering here for decades. Eternal plastic, just as you'd expect it, hanging on unwilling and unable to die. He'll survive us all, and our children's children, sitting on these roots until someone finally steals him away. Sometimes, I start thinking that my days stretch out of reach. They add up on me, get high and lonesome until they topple to forgetfulness. That's really why this daily journal means so much to me. I used to get worried about not making much of life, letting weeks or months blur together in a way I couldn't divide them. But for nearly 13 years now, I've broken them up with words and pictures, making sure that I wouldn't be mistaken for complacent. For 4,599 days to this point, I've kept it up without fail. So even if my time is somewhat in question, I still know I'm making a memory that lasts.
