Higger Tor, Peak District
Following on from my previous uploads, this was taken quite a bit after sunrise and the light was becoming borderline harsh. I've wanted a panoramic image of this view for some time. The Winter sun and snow being the ideal conditions.
I'll try this again with hopefully more snow and warmer light to get what i'm after. For now, i'm not too displeased with how its turned out.
Thanks for looking.
Higger Tor, Peak District
My 1st proper outing in this Winter's snow, a combination of snow and frost on Higger Tor yesterday morning, largely clear skies, but with some subtle cloud made it worthwhile posting. Spent a good while up here, so will hopefully have some more shots to share.
Thanks for looking.
A video of tonight spectacular electrical storm. Taken from near the Longshaw Estate looking towards Higger Tor.
Higger Tor, Peak District
I seem to have got a bit carried away taking panoramic images at Higger Tor last Friday morning. This was more of an experimental shot tbh as I wanted to see how it would look processed. The fg is a touch under exposed, probably by about 2/3 stop, which helped make it look more natural due to the dynamic range. I normally bracket atleast 5 frames to allow for sufficient overlap.
The colour from the sunrise had mostly washed out by now, leaving mostly bluey tones reflected by the snow.
Arrived just in time to catch the sunset and then stood around waiting for the Perseid Meteor shower up on Over Owler with what seemed like the rest of the country... Stanage was like a sunny Bank Holiday, cars and people everywhere.

Cotton Grass near Stony Ridge, Peak District, UK
I've been hoping to get a wide shot of the cotton grass since I noticed it three weeks ago. I've not managed to get out in good light yet. I had a go last night. It was hazy and the sun's strength was week. The best of the light was some time before sunset. Looks like that might be the last of the light for a while.
Have been watching the BBC's Springwatch programme which is broadcast from here this year; a view of the landscape around here taken earlier in the year, including Higger Tor and Carl Wark.
Currently between cameras whilst I wait for a part exchange to go through so digging around in my 'To Process' folders last night and came across this sunburst on Higger Tor from the autumn.
Red light from the rising sun, bathes Shelter Rock in a warm glow.
This is an image that I've had in my mind's eye and been stalking for at least a couple of years.
I've made numerous sunrise visits to this spot and often found that the light wasn't right (or didn't materialise at all). Finally, today the sun broke through the clouds just after sunrise and flooded Higger Tor and Hathersage Moor is a warm red light.
I'm not sure that the image is exactly right but it's the closest I've got so far!

It's hard to see where the land ends and the sky begins on this misty morning on Higger Tor, Peak District, Derbyshire, UK.
Shot with a Nikon D300 and 18-105mm lens.
Just back from shooting the sunrise this morning and really pleased that I did, I almost decided to stay in bed this morning as the forecast didn't look particularly good, but as I was awake thought well might as well give it a go.
Quick visit to Higger Tor and it actually looked pretty promising when I got there with a nice amount of cloud cover and a hint of colour building in the sky, I chose these puddles as my foreground as I knew if the sun did appear they would reflect the colours from the sky, needless to say I wasn't disappointed.(0.3sec f7.1 @ 12mm 0.9 reverse + 0.6 soft ND grad filters)
It's worth going through the archives every now and again... One of Higger Tor & Stanage Edge from October 2012.

Higger Tor, Looking to Carl Wark and over Owler Tor, Peak District, UK.
The scene quickly changed as the sun's warmth illuminated the gritstone.
Yesterday was amazing with the clouds flowing over the tops & into the valleys..
Today the clouds lay in the valleys! Beautiful..
We walked from Burbage South via Higger Tor, then Carl Wark, then down & up to Fox House for lunch via the Toad. Then back to Burbage South following the line of the crags..
This was taken from Carl Wark towards Hathersage/Grindleford..
