Higger Tor, Peak District
Having popped down the side for some shots, I came back up a shortwhile later and viewed this scene again. I wan't sure how it would look with my 24mm TSE lens, so on it went and a succession of exposures were fired off. Blended and stitched to provide a much wider view that the 18mm focal lenth below. The tones were noticeably cooler by now as the sun has risen much higher.

Bouldering today out at Higger Tor in the Peak District with some friends.. Lovely and warm, gentle breeze and some hard problems!

Higger Tor is a favourite of local artists. It's crowning rocks belie its mediocre stature. Still on a night like this...

Mam Tor or not Mam Tor, that was the question I was asking myself when I left the house this morning, and after much deliberation and driving around I settled on Higger Tor and the Kit Kat stones.
The mist was heavy this morning and at times whilst I stood waiting I wasn't sure if I'd get a result, but I did. At times I didn't know which way to look or even point my camera as the scene was constantly changing, but this was a morning I won't forget for some time.
It was gone 10am when I finally got back to the car, and that wasn't down to just taking photos, it was because I was in admiration of what was around me. Superb!!

A rare (for me) middle of the day shot taken during a recce of the area around the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark.

A very last minute decision to go out with the camera yesterday afternoon. I'm glad we did as the conditions were perfect (until the sun dipped below cloud earlier than I would have liked). We needed somewhere close and got to Higger Tor late/just in time but luckily Sarah didn't mind me running on ahead to get some shots. Three shots stitched to a panorama.
Beautiful countryside in any direction, as far as the eye (or lens) can see.

Taken last Sunday at Higger Tor at sunrise. This was taken just as the sun was coming up over the horizon and casting this lovely golden light onto the rocks of Higger Tor. I really wanted to get a decent shot with the rocks in the foreground and some nice light to give them some interest with the light and shadows.
I made this image last night on my iPhone. I was teaching a workshop in Derbyshire and had taken the group up on to Higger Tor for sunset.
Just as the group were setting up the mist started to roll across the valley, creating this amazing light for just a few minutes until it became to thick for the sun to penetrate.
I only had my phone to capture it as I dont generally use my own gear while teaching to make sure my students gets maximum attention from me. Oh, the sacrifices I make :)
It was probably the most dramatic light I have ever had in the Peak District.

I quite like the bleakness of this image, and it could be anywhere, hence he title. By now the sun was much higher, and with a predominantly clear sky, I thought to crop the sky out entirely, just leaving a hint of the glow below the horizon.
Had a fabulous sleep last night! A good 9 hours or so - probably helped by the fact I've got a bit of a cold at the moment.
We had a reasonably relaxed start, then popped over to the Co-Op for some lunch things, and then headed over to Longshaw Estate to start a walk from there - to Carl Wark and Higger Tor, taking in Burbage Rocks on the way back. All beautiful! The weather was very kind to us, too. I was pretty knackered by the end of the walk, but it was lovely to be out in beautiful countryside :)
Picked up some delicious fish and chips for our dinner back at the cottage, and had a very relaxed evening in.

Following on from my previous uploads, this was taken quite a bit after sunrise and the light was becoming borderline harsh. I've wanted a panoramic image of this view for some time. The Winter sun and snow being the ideal conditions.
I'll try this again with hopefully more snow and warmer light to get what i'm after. For now, i'm not too displeased with how its turned out.
Thanks for looking.

My 1st proper outing in this Winter's snow, a combination of snow and frost on Higger Tor yesterday morning, largely clear skies, but with some subtle cloud made it worthwhile posting. Spent a good while up here, so will hopefully have some more shots to share.
Thanks for looking.

I seem to have got a bit carried away taking panoramic images at Higger Tor last Friday morning. This was more of an experimental shot tbh as I wanted to see how it would look processed. The fg is a touch under exposed, probably by about 2/3 stop, which helped make it look more natural due to the dynamic range. I normally bracket atleast 5 frames to allow for sufficient overlap.
The colour from the sunrise had mostly washed out by now, leaving mostly bluey tones reflected by the snow.
Arrived just in time to catch the sunset and then stood around waiting for the Perseid Meteor shower up on Over Owler with what seemed like the rest of the country... Stanage was like a sunny Bank Holiday, cars and people everywhere.
