I went out again yesterday afternoon up to Higger Tor to see if I'd get a repeat of the amazing light show that I saw the previous evening, unfortunately this was not to be, it was still a lovely afternoon with some nice warm golden light but the sun dropped behind a thick bank of cloud a few minutes before sunset so no glorious colours to be captured, still there was no wind to contend with
This was taken just before the sun disappeared into the cloud.(1/25 f8 @ 12mm 0.9 reverse ND + 0.6 soft ND grad filters)
Looking out over the ling heather with Higger Tor on the right in the distance. Possibly an early 20th century grouse pool designed to collect rainwater for the grouse to drink on the rock
Thanks to Duncan Fawkes for the location and workshop

Higger Tor or Higgar Tor is a dominant landmark of the Dark Peak, in the north of the Peak District National Park. It is a gritstone tor overlooking the Burbage Valley and the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark to the southeast.

Had an hour up on Higger Tor on Saturday evening.
Was a good sky, but as usual the sun hid behind the clouds on the horizon just at the wrong time!
Under a full moon on top of Higger Tor, as the sun made it's final descent, three young Muslim men stand upon a huge boulder looking towards the moon.
One of them had missed last prayers at the local mosque, so with his footwear removed kneeling in the direction of the Mecca he began his prayers under the light of the moon and the fading sunlight as his two friends looked on.
What a perfect way to end a day. :-)
Higger Tor is a gritstone outcrop overlooking the Burbage valley and the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark. Both of these locations fall within the city limits of Sheffield and are in the Peak District National Park.
The last stop of my recent shoot. The sun was very low lying and producing some really strong shadow and colour tones.

One of Higgers' tors looking towards Stanage Edge on an almost perfect day for using a polarising filter.
First light at Higger Tor. A lull in the current weather resulted in a perfect morning.

The Aurora can be seen through the clouds above Higger Tor. The amount of light pollution from Manchester is staggering. The wind wasn't to strong at the Wooden Pole, but the constant dazzle from car headlights made long exposures difficult, so I moved to Burbage Edge and though the wind was much stronger I was able to watch the best display of the Northern Lights I have ever seen in the UK.
This was taken a few weekends ago, after visiting Padley Gorge. On my way home I saw the most spectacular rainbow and headed back to Higger Tor as fast as I could. Unfortunately it disappeared just as I arrived, but I still managed to get a reasonable shot whilst I was there.
