Eden Project biome. The biomes are constructed from a tubular steel frame with transparent panels manufactured from a plastic called EFTE (Ethylene TetrafluoroEthylene). The panels are transparent to UV light and have a triple-membrane structure which provides them with excellent heat insulation properties.

The itty bitty hexagons in this Susan McCord quilt measure approximately 1/2 inch from side to side.

Detail of a really beautiful and giant kite.

this hexagon is about 10 cm across in real life. wonderful how simple embroidery silk made from cotton can really shine like silk.

I'll have to see how it holds up through washing. But if all goes well it will hardly ever need to be washed!

I usually have a few long-term projects on the go (projects that end up taking me multiple years), so I wanted to make a 'quick' project. Someone gave me the striped navy blue fabric and I didn't know what to do with it. This winter I realized that it would make a great bag, and the blue would go so well with red, pink and orange. All but one these hexagon fabrics is Kaffe Fasset.

I handstitched the hexagons over the course of a month or two. For the bag I followed a tutorial called Simple Lined Tote by Felicity Quilts, on the 'OCD: Obsessive Crafting Disorder' blog. I changed the dimensions a bit (like making the straps longer). I will probably make a few other adjustments if I make another bag. The gussets at the bottom were new to me. Not sure I would do it that way again.

I hand appliqued the heart to the bag, then used red thread to essentially quilt each separate hexagon.

One of the best parts is that I only used my stash (including the thread) and scraps to make it.

Hexagonal and rhombic twists on one side, triangular twists on the other. Likely somebody's folded it before.

I like this side, too

I have always loved this style of tile. I grew up with them, and have them in my house now. As a kid I liked the way that you could see all kinds of patterns in them.

Thinking of our current exhibition of Tin Toy cars at Japan Society, I was amused to see this question come up on Quiz! Hexagon II, my favorite Japanese quiz show by far.

It's all about the tarento (i.e. "talents", professional celebrities more famous for their involvement in variety shows and the like than for anything else in particular) and idols and like that, enjoying their personalities and feeling like you're a fan, following their career with interest, etc. Not so much about the quiz questions themselves. This isn't Jeopardy, though for me, many of the questions are at least that hard, given my relative lack of familiarity with Japanese culture as compared to a native Japanese, not to mention the linguistic difficulties.

Anyway, it's just a really fun show. Wacky games, horrendously stupid answers, and colorful, light-hearted, fun personalities.
