But this time it's supersized hexagons. These are the 3" hexagons from paperpieces.com. I saw 3" hexagons on Barbara Brandenburg's blog and I knew that I must have some of my own! I photographed a quarter as well to give some sense of scale. These guys are big! That's why I basted (without stitching through the paper) and then used clips on the edges as well. The fabric is some of my beloved Flea Market Fancy fabric and one print from Lecien's My Folklore.

This screw is in our huge composter in the back yard. If you look closely you can see my reflection in the screw!
After my grandpa passed away my mother made me a quilt from his cut up shirts. I decided to use the scraps for a table mat to put under the lamp I got from my grandma. The hexagons are all hand sewn, the edges were done by machine. The size is about 13" x 14". Made Aug - Oct. 2015.
I had my camera on manual focus and took this shot just as en experiment and for some reason the moon has come out as a hexagon! Very odd but I quite like it.

Detail from the west side of Giotto's tower.
The hexagonal panels on the lower level of the tower depict the history of mankind, inspired by Genesis. Those on the west side show the creation of man and woman; the beginnings of “mechanical arts” and “creative arts”.
The lozenges on the next level show a different style: the marble figures stand out on a background of blue majolica. These allegorical representations are almost all attributed to Andrea Pisano or his school. Those on the west side represent the planets.

The bed cover measures 220x180cm, and weighs 4.2 kg. I used tolnai wool, and followed Attic24_Lucy's hexagon pattern with a little alteration.
