This collaborative mural titled Helping Hand, located along Johnson Avenue at Bushwick Five Points, was done by Reno-based artist OverUnder, born Erik Burke, and No Touching Ground. The arm is created out of wheatpaste and layered over a painted skeletal mural, such that it slowly disintegrates, the skeleton will be revealed. This recycling dumpster is at Brookside Park on the eastside of Indianapolis IN. The neighborhood surrounding it is crime ridden, and very poor. Some of the kids through the park foundation painted this dumpster. I park near it frequently in my abulance while I'm at work. I have never seen a local family stop by. However, I have seen Lexus's pull up and a man or woman in a bussiness suit drop items off. The playground is directly across the street from here. I have watched the kids playing there eyeball the upclass people dropping of there trash in the dumpster they painted.... The kids with a look on their face of wander, mistrust, and disgust.... If only some of these upperclass people could find a way to reach out a hand, along with their time, to these kids, and not just there recyclables....

A photo I took to match up with this piece I wrote on a heart attack victim I provided first aid to.

Behind the picture:
The picture was composed, timed with rain and edited in such a way to artistically define the writing.
The rain signifies the grief in the events.
The picture was taken on the side of a road because that's where the events took place, on the side of a road.
The one closed hand which is in black and white represents the part of me that wanted to avoid everything. The part that was afraid.
The open, coloured hand is the part of me that wanted to help, to reach out. The dirtyness is to show that it's not always pretty and easy.
The background is in black and white because the world isn't always a nice place. As corny as it may sound, it is in reaching to one another with that "helping hand" that we bring colour to the world.

"Helping hands" 52½ weeks of 2009, week #50
This happened very spontaneously just a moment ago. I was taking a couple of quick shots of my baby wearing his new bathrobe after having a bath. Then the obvious happened and daddy's helping hands were needed. And a quick shower for those tiny feet.
Several Wesleyan students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the university attended the Edgar Beckham Helping Hand Awards Ceremony April 28 in Beckham Hall.
