That's what he says whenever he really means to be saying,

"Mama help ME?"

Do you think we have enough crap for tub time?

I need help can anyone tell me what to build based on Arkham Origins. Thx

Veterans helping Veterinarians: So once again with the help of STEM Guitar Project I built this totally custom guitar and painted Godzilla on it. They ran zoom room classes that taught a group of veterans around the US the basics of CAD and this is how we came up with our designs for the body shape. Then they shipped our guitar body and kits to us and then it was up to us to finish the guitars either alone or in small local groups. Alex (he posed as Frankenstein on my last guitar) opened his wood shop in Lake Stevens to us and, along with STEM Guitar builder-guru Nancy Wilson Chang, helped fellow veteran classmate Chris Szarek and me build our guitars.

But even before I sketched out a body shape and long before any of the work was done, I had announced that this guitar was eventually going to be donated to some charity or another. Details were still forthcoming back then.

We spent a few weekends in each other's company (safely) and told (decidedly unsafe) sailor jokes while crafting our guitars. Me being me, I had to go a little over-the-top with mine. Alex described my design as having "a dangerous Klingon vibe" and that was before Godzilla was painted on it! Chris' guitar, while less dangerous, took on a decidedly sexier feel. (But I'll leave that to him to tell his story.)

Fast forward a few weeks and we all met one last time in the wood shop to string, tune and add a few finishing touches to our guitars. Everyone liked mine but Alex in particular seemed to be foaming at the mouth. (Probably. It was hard to tell with our safety masks on but he definitely had that foaming-at-the-mouth look.)

Then a week or so later I get an email from Alex that said something along the lines of "Hey dude, I've been totally foaming at the mouth over Godzilla here. You still gonna donate that to some charity or whatever? Cuz if so, I'm totally down with buying it for $1000 and you can donate it to whatever cause you're into. I just need that Godzilla, man! If I had it you know I'd totally rock out with my socks out! Think it over, man!"

I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it all went down but be warned old sailors and humorists can be known to embellish a little. Anyway I give it some thought and the idea of keeping Godzilla within close friends was compelling. It was just a matter of finding a good cause. Then along comes Crusoe The Celebrity Dachshund. I mean, he didn't just arrive. He's been entertaining me and millions of other fans for years now. His humor can be edgy, even a bit risqué at times but he has spoofed everything from Batman, to Jurassic Park. While I'm fully aware he can't actually talk and likely has no real opinions on Star Wars or DC Comics, I'm smitten by the little pup. His handlers are genuinely good people. Crusoe and his family has won countless humanitarian (or pet-atarian) awards for the good work they do. In my opinion, whether it be manufacturing ramps for small or elderly dogs or increasing awareness for safer food and pet toy standards, anyone with a pet has likely been benefited by Crusoe and his family. But these past eight months he's been on the down-low due to some scary issues with his liver and bile duct. He needed an operation and sought out the Cornell Institute, an animal hospital to help him. The good people there operated on Crusoe and got his liver and enzyme numbers back to normal. As sort of a good karma campaign to help the veterinarians who helped him, Crusoe set up The Crusoe Fund in order to help other animals in need of medical care. So far they've raised over $100,000 to the cause and I had hoped to be a part of it too.

I told Alex about The Crusoe Fund and he was totally onboard with it! Godzilla destroys cities. Crusoe has likely destroyed a carpet or two in his day. You see, it has a ring to it! Plus when you come up with the awesome tagline of "Veterans helping Veterinarians" there's really no turning back from that. Long story short, Alex gets a cool guitar to rock out with his aforementioned socks out, The Crusoe Fund gets a cool 10 Benjamins and it's a win-win for everyone. Wooh-hoo!

Hello everyone. I'm hoping you'll have the time to read through this...

Some of you may have noticed from my pictures that I was in Jamaica a while back.... Being the "unconventional traveller" that I am, I skipped the typical resorts of Negril and went to Kingston. Albeit the mixed views around the capital, it's actually my favourite place in Jamaica. During my last visit, I wanted to explore the ghettos of Kingston (some photos being on Flickr). These are often places of gang-warfare and where shootings happen at unpredictable moments. I ended up spending a day between two ghettos: Southside and Tel-Aviv. It is in the latter where I came across Kalia (I've posted a picture of here on Flickr before: www.flickr.com/photos/mariannaf/11317308736/)

Kalia is a 2 y.o born with the rare condition known as VACTERL. She has an anus malformation (her intestines are cut out from her stomach and wrapped around her), a heart anomaly, a weak kidney and disfigured hand.

Because I do believe in the power of social media, I posted her picture & story on my FB, but the settings were among my friends only.

Recently I decided to switch the settings to "public" and in a week it has been shared by over 2000 people. It equally caught the attention of Jamaica's leading newspaper The Gleaner. They featured her story in the Sunday Issue (which has x2 circulation vs weekdays) with a full spread on page 2.

There are many struggles that the family faces- one being financial means. I have set up a fundraiser after the release of the article to help support Kalia. Im working with two close friends of mine who are based out of Jamaica and helping me on the case.

I'm spreading the message here... if you would like to help by donating or sharing the link with others, please do. Any form of support is appreciated to help Kalia. The family are GOOD, honest people and I would love to see Kalia in a better state. Most of the people living in these neighbourhoods are friendly, warm people. But they are caught in a vicious cycle that is beyond them.

Here is the link to donate online: www.gofundme.com/HELPKALIAPART1

and here is the link to the article on The Gleaner: jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20140119/lead/lead22.html#dis...

Additionally, if you are in the medical field or know of someone who can help please message me.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Love,

Marianna

Hi Folks, we really need your help on this one: Polythene Pam was found tonight lying half on a sidewalk, and slipping into a hole down into the ditch as she is paralyzed. She wasn't going to be left there! So with the help of ISS security guard Dean Riade who kept a watchful eye out for her, we rushed back with a kennel. She needs vet treatment, possibly surgery and very likely, long term care. She is adorably friendly and loves people, but she needs a dog-free environment. If you can help out this kitty in any way, please let us know.

This is another Double HDR, the concept for the shot was my cousin's idea (pictured signing for cars to stop) I don't want to drag this along into an elaborate description.

Let's just say I let myself be more creatively free with the Photoshop work and colors.

Just to clarify things, there was nothing wrong with the Corvette. =)

Prehispanic people considered the light and warmth of the Sun to be equal to life itself. Therefore their creation myths saw in the presence and destruction of that star the precarious nature o life and the need for men to help maintain the Sunas the supreme deity.

The creation myth, the cosmogonic suns, explains how different gods played a part. The essential aspect is the nature of each of these stars, that in their momont ruled the different stages of life. The first sun was earth, it's patrón, Texcatlipoca, and it's signs, the jaguar and darkness. The second sun was created by Quetzalcóatl, the wind being his nature, tied to Tlaloc to make the third sun, in the form of a man of fire, and Chalchuhtlicue made the water Sun, which took the fourth position. All of them were created and destroyed by the very essence of their nature.

The four elements of life, having come together: earth, wind, fire and water, in the fifth creation ot was the turn of two other noumena: Nanahuatzin and Tecuciztécatl, who became the Sun and Moon respectively. For this act of generation to take place, both gods had to set themselves on fire. that is why when man was created, he had to repay the gods with his and his enemies' blood. The son equalsthe victorious warrior who wins over his contraries (the Moon and the stars) or makes them run away. He clears away the shadows and the darkness and brings the light and warmth that illuminate the universe.

Piedra del Sol:

(Stone of the Sun?)

The scultoric monument refered to the Mexica people by excellence is Piedra del Sol, found in december 1970, at Zócalo, México city. For its simbolic content, where days and cosmogonic suns can be found, it was unfairly called Calendario Azteca.

It's abou a great gladiatoire sacrifice altar, known as temalacatl, which was not concluded due to a profund break, which starts in one of it's sides and goes to the center of the piece through the back. But in spite of the fracture, it was used with the purpose of sustenting the fight of the warriors in the Tracaxipehualiztli ceremony

In the design of the disc we can recognize the face of Xiuhtecuhtli, who emerges from the hole in the earth, holding a couple of human hearts, and showing his tongue transformed into a sacrifice knife. He is surrounded by the Four Suns which preceded the Fifth Sun, also inscribed (the 4 suns) into the sequence of the twenty signs of the days; which are surrounded by the digure of the Sun with his four rays, accompained simetrically by the prongs of sacrifice. Surrouning the aster there are two Xiuhcóatl or "Fire serpent", who take him through the firmaments.

Lousy translation: Bomba Rosa.. hehehe

I'm not sure it's true, but I've heard that the face has almost dissappeared because some french soldiers used it as a shooting target.. hehe I hope it's not true :P

I'm stuck in a car wash!! :)

But it's really none of my buiness..

I have to focus more on Danbo, it is a Danbo 365 after all..

I can only type 1 letter or space every few seconds

For Dave C. and other Flickr friends too, the fact that my title is not very title-like but more like a file name, *is* the title of asking for help from my Flickr friends. I did in fact get help and and that is the *soul* of this one. I can now type a few paragraphs before the year is out. LOL

See 5th comment down for more about this.

For Mission 24.

Kristin (pictured here) and Allison helped me to get a shot of the gerbera daisies. But in the end, it was the flowers that actually helped me get the shots. Some great ones of Allison, that have been rare these days.

This was also a great reminder for me about my role as a mom, and as a helper. I want to help them with their daily "stuff" - learning to do all the things that little girls their age are trying. But more importantly, to help them grow into the best grown-ups they can be.

I got my new danbo in the mail today, me and my friend were so exited :D we spent hours just taking pictures of it

merci de me dire si c est bien un milan ?

Achei perdida nos arquivos ;-)

Today was truly a winter wonderland, and a rare one. We had freezing rain last night that coated every surface in ice. I need HELP PLEASE! Most of the shots I took that I thought were going to be absolutely beautiful are crap. Total crap. Blown out. I know the lighting was tricky, bright sunlight bouncing off of all that ice everywhere, but UGH did I make a mess of things. This makes me sad. Just in case we get another ice storm, what do I do???? Someone!! Advise please.

Oh, this one I'm happy with. :)

Edit to add: I should have mentioned this. I have a point-and-shoot, but it can be switched to fully manual, although the manual focus is basically useless. It has auto bracketing which DOH! I don't believe I didn't think to use and I will now. My camera has 3 metering settings; multi segment, spot and center weighted. I usually use multi segment, which I'm hoping means it takes readings from different spots and gives an average. It's not smart enough to handle snow then huh?

Also, what I was trying to capture, mostly, was the fire. The way the sun lit things. I know there's serious contrast of darks and brights in a shot like that, I just don't know how to handle it, and I don't know if it even CAN be captured the way I see it, but I'm being optimistic and I hope there is. :)
