I've recently experimented in painting a dark bley helmet from Arealight to achieve the desired shade of white on Scorch's faceplate; my problem is that the paint looks bumpy and terrible.
I need help from people who know their way around paints, any tips or advice, instructions or such that you can give me for getting the paint job to be smoother? I already tried thinning the acrylic paint with water, but this is the outcome. Am I doing something wrong? Anyways, any tips or advice are welcome!
This appears to be written in paint - not blood. Though it did lend extra interest to an otherwise boring room.
Brean beach is pretty isolated, so I went to try and get some long exposure of the night sky. I didn't quite get what I was after so though I'd have a go at some long exposure shots whilst I mess around with a torch. This is my attempt to write the word "Help" in the air...
Still, the long exposure did bring out the stars! I think the two really bright ones are Venus and Jupiter, as they were visible in the night sky recently. The bright lights in the middle right are from Cardiff, while the lights in the middle left are from Swansea.
I know it's a cliché, but this looks better on black!
I've only had my little helpers for two days now, they are proving to be a great help around the house.
I've been quite busy this morning so when they offered to open my new bag of bird seed and fill my feeders I jumped at the chance and said yes.
Unfortunately I forgot to tell them that I prefer the bag to be opened at the top to save too much mess but by the time I found them I was too late.
Oh well, they were only trying to help,

Rio Grande SD50 5502 provides some assistance for an empty coal train (I believe it is pushing as the headlights don't appear to be on in this image, but the marker/class lights do) as it passes under CO-93 near Leyden, CO in the early 1990s. 5502 was built in August 1984. It would be renumbered to 9846 by UP in 2002. It would be retired in June 2007.

If you're interested in the reasons, there are many. First is the likelihood that a whooping crane will be mistaken and killed during this hunt. There are two known, young whoopers that accompany flocks of sandhills and probably many more that haven't been identified. Very few nesting sandhills even replace themselves so the flocks are dwindling without an open season. And - the best reason of all is the sheer beauty of seeing the skies darkened by huge flocks of very large birds that stop over in migration at only a couple of resting places in the US. I would think that this is a gift that should be preserved for our following generations since so few true gifts are left to enjoy.
