There is a heatwave in Britain (and across Europe) at the moment though I am not sure where the squirrel got the Ice Cream from ...

Unfortunately, I've forgotten that I was still on ISO 1600 when I took this shot

From 13-22 May 2025, Iceland experienced an unusual heatwave with temperatures reaching or exceeding 20°C at various locations, making it the most significant May heatwave ever recorded in Iceland.

The Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission was able to obtain an accurate measurement of the land surface temperature of the ground on 17 May, when temperatures reached the peak.

The image was generated by using the mission’s Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer instrument. While weather forecasts use predicted air temperatures, this satellite instrument measures the real amount of energy radiating from Earth. Therefore, this image shows the actual temperature of the land’s surface, which is usually significantly hotter than air temperatures.

Currently enjoying something of a heatwave across most of the UK just now and with the relaxing of the 'lockdown' restrictions, people have been making the most of it.

This was the scene on Sunderland's seafront at Seaburn where the beach was definitely the place to be.

I was home for once.

But the heat nearly killed me.

Here's to another stinking hot day in Sydney tomorrow.

Notte della Taranta 2009 - Danza e Pizzica

www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Q_Yyg5npY&feature=related

In the video, you can listen to a “pizzica”

The “pizzica” is a folk dance especially ascribed today to Salento, but it was practiced until the 70s of the twentieth century. throughout the central and southern Puglia and Basilicata.

It’s part art of the great family of tarantella, as they call that varied group of dances of Modern Age in southern Italy.

The first written source, which is known today, dates back to 1797 and refers to the evening dance that the nobility of Taranto offered to King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon during his diplomatic tour in the city. The text speaks of "pizzica pizzica" as a "nobbilitata tarantella”. Already in the nineteenth century the pizzica has been linked to the practice of musical therapeutic practice of tarantism, but it was found that since the fourteenth century musicians and tarantulas have used the local dances of the period, to treat and cure the poison of scorpions and tarantulas. One of the hottest days of the year, and what do the fur-covered animals want to do? Stay out on the Catio in the middle of it, of course.

A little hazy because the lens fogged up when I brought it out.

A heat wave across Western Canada has prompted Environment Canada to issue health warnings to residents while the BC Wildfire Service has banned open fires amid concerns about dry conditions in B.C. forests.

The temperature in Lytton in the southern B.C. Interior rose to 46.1 on Sunday, setting a new Canadian record, according to Environment Canada.
