James upgrades the headunit in his 1991 Suzuki Cappuccino with a Sony DSX-A410BT single din headunit at his home on November 28th, 2019.
As removing the factory head unit removed the "lights on" buzzer I wanted a light on the dash to show remind me they are on.
The canbus light system proved a challenge too far for my local auto electrician (at least within a reasonable time/cost).
I got around the problem by running a +ive feed back from the front marker light. Low tech but it gets the job done. I also used the feed to power the rear view camera switch so it can't be left on once lights are off. That also acts as a lights on reminder too.
So much so a single din cage makes the ideal infill piece.
I used a low tech foam filler technique rather than ship a proper bracket from the US as shipping costs were 10 times the item value ;)
I mounted the camera on a piece of aluminium bent into a shape which enabled it to be be positioned far enough out from the rear to provide a clear view of the tow ball past the curve of the rear doors.
It is simply mounted on exterior "No-Nails" tape with a single cable tie for security.
Selling these, so it's only a matter of time before someone asks for real pictures. Figured I'd make them pretty, or as close to that as cheap paper, wireless flash and the floor would allow. :)
My centre console, blushed alu ashtray cover and cupholder cover, with pioneer MP3 headunit. Seen in corner, TT brushed dead pedal to go with the driving pedals. Now all I need is a new gearknob!
Bottom of a 2005 WRX head unit main PCB, with a Leptronix auxiliary-input add-on board taped to the AM transmitter.
I didn't take this! My very talented wife has a handy studio setup for taking product shots like this, and since I'm incredibly lazy, I deferred to her. :) She's over at muddybootsphotography.blogspot.com/ if you're curious about her work.
Small wide angle cam came as part of a kit.
The camera is powered by the rear marker / running lights so I don't need to be in reverse to use it.
The cable runs down the side of the van passed the the lights & inside the van at the bottom of the rear driver's side door. It then runs up passed the AV Cupboard (where it joins another cable running along the bottom of the fridge, kitchen & wardrobe to the driver's seat base where it meets the input cable I had run from the head unit.
it was time to say goodbye to the best car I've ever owned. 213,431 miles, more than half of them mine. a tire blew out yesterday and as soon as I got a new one put on, the shifter failed. couldn't drive it, lock it, or take the key out of the ignition so I had it towed to a dealership, and traded it in for a 2011 Mazda 6.
gutted the dash and as many audio components as I could reasonably uninstall before leaving it to the auctioneers.
Done!
the big red light is the camera switch which triggers the head unit to display the rear view cam ... even when to hear unit is switched off.
Head unit & Camera £150 from China
7" HD Screen is very very good ... but the UI total rubbish ... But it dose all I need ... Play iPod/Phone trough line in B)
EDIT to add ... it worked fine for 6 weeks then failed ... I have since installed a new Alpine head unit and camera.
This is my 1985 BMW 323i. I believe 1985 was the second year of the E30 designation. This car uses the 2.3 liter M20 engine, which is a SOHC inline 6 with two valves per cylinder. I believe it uses the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system. The 2.3 liter has a fairly hot cam since this was BMW's highest performance 3-Series for this model year. The suspension setup has MacPherson struts up front and trailing arms in the rear. This setup works remarkably well considering that these are not exactly ideal suspension configurations.
This particular car has about 160,000 miles on the original engine/trans. It was originally purchased by my uncle while he was in Germany and he brought it back to the US and gave it to my cousin as a high school graduation present. My cousin kept it for the next 20 years, over which time the car incurred significant rust damage to the body around the rocker panels/floor. I spent several weeks this summer repairing the damage on the passenger side, which included replacing the rear portion of the rocker panel, the front fender, and patching the floor and rear wheel arch.
This car is mostly stock. The original radio was stolen, so I have a Pioneer DEH-P560MP headunit. I also installed an Audiobahn A6004V amplifier. The front speakers have been replaced with an Infinity 5010cs component speaker system. I'm still trying to figure out what to use in the rear.
I still have the original 14" bottlecap wheels with Yokohama AVS ES100 tires.
These pictures were taken right after I repainted it with an enamel top coat. Some of the trim hasn't been replaced yet since I'm waiting for the paint to harden enough to polish.
What this thing really is continues to be debated by misc collectors/experts online. Might not be a National despite having the decal. Who knows... :) It has the neck, headunit, and body of a dobro, the resonating cover of a dobro, and the same sort of pickup/inside bits as were used in a 1930's prototype electric dobro bass tenor, stamped around 25 numbers off of my father's model. Sound sample on YouTube.
My father's possible 1930s resonating mandolin from National Reso-Phonic, restrung and in the first stages of cleaning. It has a wonderful sound. Especially when it is hooked up to an amp.
Shore Cellular replaced the factory radio from this Chrysler Sebring and installed a JVC head unit with front USB and auxiliary ports.
