2004 40th Anniversary Mustang GT Convertible

I bought this car on February 5, 2004 just after a business trip to Japan.

Crimson Red 40th Anniversary Mustang GT Convertible. FX paint code (Merlot). This paint and trim package was an $895 option for the 2004 Mustang to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mustang (1964.5 - 2004). The Arizona Beige stripes, painted Cobra folding mirrors, Arizona Beige painted five spoke wheels, 40th anniversary floor mats and interior badging was also available with black and Oxford White paint. All 2004 models have a fender badge, but only 40th Anniversary package cars have the extra items.

They were offered without a rear spoiler (likely due to the cost of adding more stripes?). I prefer the lack of a spoiler! Especially on the hardtop models. Roush offered several models with the Crimson Red paint as well.

This car is #4095 of 4558 Mustangs painted with Crimson Red in 2004.

These are the last of the Mustangs built at the Ford Rouge plant. The actual section of the plant that built these cars has been demolished. The new plant atThe Rouge builds F-150 pickups. Mustang production swithed to Auto Alliance in Flat Rock, Michigan for 2005 model year. This is a plant shared with Mazda where the Mazda6 is built. It previously built the Ford Probe and Mazda 626 / MX-6. The irony? The Ford Mustang was to be replaced by the 1989 Ford Probe until customers wrote letters to Ford in protest (I was 12 in 1989). Thanks! Without protest, the best looking Mustang ever made, the 2004 Crimson Red 40th Anniversary GT, would have never been built!

This car hit 11,500 two days before taking these photos. No snow, but it has been rained on twice at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It has been driven 1000 miles in the past two years. Most of these miles are on or near Hines Drive in the western Detroit suburbs. Huron River Drive is another favorite.

Just before the 2004 Dream Cruise, I installed a MAC Pro Chamber and Magnaflow MagnaPacks. I drive through the Detroit Metro Airport Mcnamara long term parking garage expecting TSA to show up! 100+ dB in the driver's seat.

I also hardwired an Alpine CDA-7897 XL receiver into the factory Mach 460 amplifiers to get some great sound from the factory speakers! The stock Mach 460 system(headunit) is garbage. Mustang Salley never sounded so good.

2014 Ford Kuga Titanium 4X2 1.6L Ecoboost Sony Radio/CD/DAB/Auxiliary Input head unit.

Update: It works now! I installed a free map update for Maryland and surrounding Middle Atlantic states and that solved the problems.

The system will find an address on the map, and it can be 2 miles away or 20 miles away on an uncomplicated route on major highways, and when I hit "Select As Destination" it will give me this message. "A route cannot be calculated to the given destination(s). The road network between the route points is not continuous." When we drive to the address and hit the "Home" button the GPS has no problems.

It only happens for a couple addresses, but it always happens with them, and it is not an easy fix. For example, we get it for 1620 Reisterstown Rd. in Pikesville, MD, and it repeats if you try 1600, 1500, 1700 or just "Reisterstown Rd" w/o a street number.

What is up with that?

I bought this car on February 5, 2004 just after a business trip to Japan.

Crimson Red 40th Anniversary Mustang GT Convertible. FX paint code (Merlot). This paint and trim package was an $895 option for the 2004 Mustang to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mustang (1964.5 - 2004). The Arizona Beige stripes, painted Cobra folding mirrors, Arizona Beige painted five spoke wheels, 40th anniversary floor mats and interior badging was also available with black and Oxford White paint. All 2004 models have a fender badge, but only 40th Anniversary package cars have the extra items.

They were offered without a rear spoiler (likely due to the cost of adding more stripes?). I prefer the lack of a spoiler! Especially on the hardtop models. Roush offered several models with the Crimson Red paint as well.

This car is #4095 of 4558 Mustangs painted with Crimson Red in 2004.

These are the last of the Mustangs built at the Ford Rouge plant. The actual section of the plant that built these cars has been demolished. The new plant at The Rouge builds F-150 pickups. Mustang production switched to Auto Alliance in Flat Rock, Michigan for 2005 model year. This is a plant shared with Mazda where the Mazda6 is built. It previously built the Ford Probe and Mazda 626 / MX-6. The irony? The Ford Mustang was to be replaced by the 1989 Ford Probe until customers wrote letters to Ford in protest (I was 12 in 1989). Thanks! Without protest, the best looking Mustang ever made, the 2004 Crimson Red 40th Anniversary GT, would have never been built!

This car hit 11,900 miles the day of the cruise. No snow, but it has been rained on twice at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It has been driven 1000 miles in the past two years. Most of these miles are on or near Hines Drive in the western Detroit suburbs. Huron River Drive is another favorite.

Just before the 2004 Dream Cruise, I installed a MAC Pro Chamber and Magnaflow MagnaPacks. I drive through the Detroit Metro Airport Mcnamara long term parking garage expecting TSA to show up! 100+ dB in the driver's seat.

I also hardwired an Alpine CDA-7897 XL receiver into the factory Mach 460 amplifiers to get some great sound from the factory speakers! The stock Mach 460 system(headunit) is garbage. Mustang Sally never sounded so good.

The main center panel is held in by two 8mm bolt-screws that are difficult to find and see. I had to shine a light in there and lie upside down on the floor and look through one hole to see the screw and reach in through another hole to get the bolt driver in.

Mustang production switched to Auto Alliance in Flat Rock, Michigan for 2005 model year. This is a plant shared with Mazda where the Mazda6 is built. It previously built the Ford Probe and Mazda 626 / MX-6. The irony? The Ford Mustang was to be replaced by the 1989 Ford Probe until customers wrote letters to Ford in protest (I was 12 in 1989). Thanks! Without protest, the best looking Mustang ever made, the 2004 Crimson Red 40th Anniversary GT, would have never been built!

This car hit 11,900 miles the day of the cruise. No snow, but it has been rained on twice at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It has been driven 1000 miles in the past two years. Most of these miles are on or near Hines Drive in the western Detroit suburbs. Huron River Drive is another favorite.

Just before the 2004 Dream Cruise, I installed a MAC Pro Chamber and Magnaflow MagnaPacks. I drive through the Detroit Metro Airport Mcnamara long term parking garage expecting TSA to show up! 100+ dB in the driver's seat.

I also hardwired an Alpine CDA-7897 XL receiver into the factory Mach 460 amplifiers to get some great sound from the factory speakers! The stock Mach 460 system(headunit) is garbage. Mustang Sally never sounded so good.

2004 40th Anniversary Mustang GT Convertible

I bought this car on February 5, 2004 just after a business trip to Japan. After driving in little micro cars for nearly two weeks, I needed some American V-8 muscle.

Crimson Red 40th Anniversary Mustang GT Convertible. FX paint code (Merlot). This paint and trim package was an $895 option for the 2004 Mustang to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mustang (1964.5 - 2004). The Arizona Beige stripes, painted Cobra folding mirrors, Arizona Beige painted five spoke wheels, 40th anniversary floor mats and interior badging was also available with black and Oxford White paint. All 2004 models have a fender badge, but only 40th Anniversary package cars have the extra items.

They were offered without a rear spoiler (likely due to the cost of adding more stripes?). I prefer the lack of a spoiler! Especially on the hardtop models. Roush offered several models with the Crimson Red paint as well.

So, you busted the touchscreen or maybe the entire screen of your pioneer headunit. These pictures should help you fix it. The procedure is not for the faint of heart, but can be done if you are patient and have some experience with small electronics.

tools I used:

-A watch repair kit with small screw drivers, a small dull knife, etc.

-assorted screwdrivers

-one very specific torx security bit OR a pair of pliers (you'll see why in a few)

-patience

-about 2 hours

Please use the pioneer repair manual (no I can't send it to you or show you a link for it...but you can find it on your own) as your main guide. This should supplement that.

Fully rebuilt dashboard : speedo now in the middle, headunit right behind steering wheel

I've already inserted the climate controls, knobs and buttons. The head unit does not look quite flush yet. Note the missing sticky mini-panel below the air circulation knob. It kept falling out, so I moved it somewhere during the install. I never saw the other mini-panel in the dash kit. The one above is just removed from the original and it looks noticeably different. I don't know if that mini-panel didn't ship with the Scosche kit or whether it got stuck on something. I checked all my tools, all the original packaging, all around the car, but I didn't find that sticky mini-panel.

All too often, car audio show cars are just that - show cars. They may be very pretty; they may be very loud - but it is rare to find a car that truly looks and sounds great.

2009 Volkswagen Passat CC 2.0 TDI GT in Shadow Blue Metallic with 18" Alloy Wheels. Fitted with a subtle colour co-ordinated body kit consisting of a front spoiler, tail spoiler and side skirts. Interior trimmed in Black and Oatmeal Nappa leather.

To add visual impact, we added Blue LED's to illuminate the install, and subtle Alpine "carbon fibre" trim to replace the walnut wood trim. The boot was finished in Black and oatmeal to match the interior.

The install:

Steve Lem of LemTech in Oxford carried out the installation as he has a passion for creating incredible audio installs. Time was spent on the speaker locations on the front doors, with particular attention paid to the tweeters. Two Monoblock PDX amps run two Type-R subs each, while a single PDX four channel amp runs the front components. These are Bi-amped, so the tweeter and mids receive a channel each (150W RMS so plenty of power!), while the second Four channel drives the bootlid speakers and the components in the rear doors. There is a bootlid monitor and headrest monitors which are connected to a KCE-635UB USB interface, DVB TV tuner and the Front headunit. The LED illumination and Alpine door trims have to be seen in real life to truly appreciate it. Keep a lookout for the Alpine Passat CC at various shows and dealer events throughout the year. Alpine 6.5" Marine speakers custom mounted front & rear, powered off a Alpine Headunit & Powerpack

The knobs have to be set this way so that the cables will align correctly when the whole panel is reinstalled.

I was worried about a tiny bit of daylight between the unit trim and the Scosche dash kit, but when it was installed you couldn't see anything. The unit works surprisingly well.

Two comments:

1. I had no luck in screwing in this panel. I could not find the screw/bolt holes, if they in fact exist. The only way I found the bolt-screws before was by their silvery reflection in the flashlight beam. When they were gone, I couldn't find the holes.

2. The dash kit clips were much looser than the original clips. I had to remove the unit to pick up screws and it was easy. Almost too easy.

I was worried that the stereo would yank out when I braked hard, but 500 miles later it seems solid.

If I'd have done this before, I would have known that I could have done all the soldering on a workbench the night before. All the soldering is between the wires of the head unit wire harness and the Scosche wire harness kit for Honda (and the Scosche Honda antenna adapter). I didn't even need to have the head unit present (and at risk of being hit by dropping solder).

There are holes where the knobs and buttons used to be.

The glove compartment has been removed, exposing three cables: purple, blue, and orange. Each is held by a clip and then attached to a white level. Mark each of them just where they touch the clips. Remove them from the clips.

Replaced the factory HU-801 Volvo headunit with my own 1din Pioneer radio.

Reason behind it, I want to listen to my own music which is stored on my iPod.
