We have been having lake effect clouds the last week or so. Cloudy sunsets and sunrises. Pulling this out of my achives. I would like to do more of this but it has been very cold and windy here in Michigan.

Peter wanted this particular rhododendron because it makes a particular chemical compound that he has been interested in during his scientific career. I don't remember what the compound is, and I don't particularly want to ask him, because I have no patience today for one of his chemistry lectures... They are always way over my head!!
I have a small problem. fell off a ladder and broke my wrist. so everything is 1 hand typing.

Have been un-able to post an image folks for the last 2 hours and am now finally getting there, a Flickr Thing I hope.
There were a few nests of this species that I was so glad to see this season, not as many as the other species but enough to ensure the population of this beautiful bird here in out wetlands, and there transformation to adulthood.

Modern art galleries and museums have always wanted to tell a story in the usual fashion of linear history. So as a rule rooms in galleries tended to be set out in historical periods or particular styles. The contemporary curator however eschews all that, throws everything into the mix and allows the viewer to piece together their own story.
Now this is all very well for the informed art lover, but can be very confusing to those who have never studied art history. It's a sink or swim model, and the jury is still out on whether this approach is going to be successful.
This section of the QVMAG was recently renovated to allow for more works to be shown from the very large collection that Launceston has built up over 200 years (the settlement itself was founded in 1806). One problem for photographers is that the light intensity has been reduced to 40 lumens per square metre (for example a 60 watt light bulb provides 800 lumens per square metre). This is so the works are not damaged by excess light. But it does make getting good photographs of the works very difficult indeed. This photograph, for instance, appears much brighter than the lighting actually was.

I have returned from four and a half days on the KCS around Rich Mountain. The cutting of trees along the ROW prompted me to go now. Plus I really needed a serious KCS fix. GSP had mentioned the "mystery bridge" at Williams (so one map calls it) on the Ft Smith branch and I managed to find my way in and shoot it twice, the results here. My first view is here, as I tried to downplay the fact he only had 2 cars. Looking back it would have made a good vertical.

I have been single for six years in the sense that I live alone at home.
Since breaking up with my ex, the only man I've ever really shared my life with, I've still been dating. I spent nine months with one guy, never living together, a few weeks with another and three more for what were just one night stands.
So I'm still single. And so it is based on real facts that I will tell you, in four parts, this "story of my life".

We have no snow yet and I really want some for Christmas but it doesn't look good. Actually, there may be about 1 mm out on my deck but that doesn't count :-)
Usually it's the other way round, bank of cloud on the horizon and clear skies. The sky was scarlet looking back towards Sheffield and Burbage and I couldn't quite squeeze it in.
As usual not without incident. Spilt coffee in my camera bag, cleaning cloths were like I'd rubbed them with lard and completely useless, left a lens hood here and had to traipse all the way back to retrieve it, got soaked on the return and forgot I'd disconnected the stove in the van and left the regulator at home and my back up butane cannister was empty, so no bacon sandwiches.
First world problems!
I said I wanted to take pictures of my cats more frequently, so here is my other cat, Mia. She's 7 years old and not as trusting as Estrelinha, but she's very sweet too to those who have earned her trust. It's much more difficult to get photos of her, but today I succeeded just in time for Caturday!
