Although we have been absolutely spoilt with abnormally hot weather in Ireland for weeks now, the amazing weather has brought with it clear blue skies. For me one of the most important elements to landscape photography is clouds. Having been keeping an eye on cloud cover for sometime nothing appeared to be changing anytime soon so I took a trip along the beautiful Antrim Coast anyway.
With so much on this stretch of coastline and with very long evenings brings with it so many people, I had stopped at two locations that I hoped to shoot but had to move on due to the crowds. Although not the shot I wanted or the conditions I would of liked its still great to be out on such a beautiful evening.

I have to be as much a diplomat as a photographer. People don’t often take me seriously because I carry so little equipment and make so little fuss... I never carried a lot of equipment. My motto has always been, “Keep it simple.” :-)

Found this 1960 Dodge Pioneer outside of the store where we bought our Christmas tree. It's in pretty bad shape, but still delivering the tree and presents. I think Santa's elves could use a new fleet. GPS would come in handy!
I have been photographing an eagle nest on the Fox River in Appleton, Wisconsin, for two months. Three adult eagles are tending to three newly hatched eaglets in the nest. People have told me that two of the eagles are females.
I caught this eagle hanging in the air and swinging its legs forward to land on the nest. The wingspan is a little over seven feet. My goal is to photograph all six eagles on the nest at one time.

Having been confronted head on by the dominant male this stag deferred and led the herd of young male and female deer up the hill. In his own time the dominant male left the clearing where they had been browsing and grazing to bring up the rear. With an occasioonal backward glance they were soon all out of sight.

Having recently been diagnosed with Cancer I will only be dipping in and out of Flickr over the next few months. I will pass comment whenever I can, but don’t be surprised when I don’t, it will be because I am unable to at the time.
Moorhens are blackish with a red and yellow beak and long, green legs. Seen closer-up, they have a dark brown back and wings and a more bluish-black belly, with white stripes on the flanks. What they eat: Water plants, seeds, fruit, grasses, insects, snails, worms and small fish.
You can see moorhens around any pond, lake, stream or river, or even ditches in farmland. Moorhens can live in cities as well as the countryside. In the UK they breed in in lowland areas, especially in central and eastern England. They're scarce in northern Scotland and the uplands of Wales and northern England. UK breeding birds are residents and seldom travel far. (Courtesy RSPB).

How I have missed those wonderful moments at the waterholes and today I went back in the archives to see if there were some files that could be edited. I love the zebras and it is so much fun to see how excited they get when they know they are nearing the waterhole. Etosha, Namibia is an awesome place and I will always be grateful to Michael Rosenbaum for encouraging Gary and I to go and we spent a month there learning all we could about this magical place . Fortunately we have been able to return many times since and have taken several groups to see the incredible raw beauty it has to offer. Hopefully we will be going back shortly as soon as Covid is under control .

I have no idea what they make at this place, but my thought was some up-sized moonshine distillery, or a meth lab. I think this was someplace between Raton and Las Vegas, New Mexico. For sure I-25 and northern New Mexico. I've kept a journal since 2009 with date, odometer, and nearest town. So for a picture like this that was taken in 2012, by the date & time of day it was taken, I can usually figure out roughly where I took the picture.

We have been having lake effect clouds the last week or so. Cloudy sunsets and sunrises. Pulling this out of my achives. I would like to do more of this but it has been very cold and windy here in Michigan.

Peter wanted this particular rhododendron because it makes a particular chemical compound that he has been interested in during his scientific career. I don't remember what the compound is, and I don't particularly want to ask him, because I have no patience today for one of his chemistry lectures... They are always way over my head!!

We have had some unseaonably warm days in late January 2020. On Beck Lake to the east of Cody Wyoming, the lake ice has melted leaving some open water. Standing on the ice, Canada geese (Branta canadensis) have gathered around the open water, beautiful sight.
Modern art galleries and museums have always wanted to tell a story in the usual fashion of linear history. So as a rule rooms in galleries tended to be set out in historical periods or particular styles. The contemporary curator however eschews all that, throws everything into the mix and allows the viewer to piece together their own story.
Now this is all very well for the informed art lover, but can be very confusing to those who have never studied art history. It's a sink or swim model, and the jury is still out on whether this approach is going to be successful.
This section of the QVMAG was recently renovated to allow for more works to be shown from the very large collection that Launceston has built up over 200 years (the settlement itself was founded in 1806). One problem for photographers is that the light intensity has been reduced to 40 lumens per square metre (for example a 60 watt light bulb provides 800 lumens per square metre). This is so the works are not damaged by excess light. But it does make getting good photographs of the works very difficult indeed. This photograph, for instance, appears much brighter than the lighting actually was.

We have four cats so have never had birds coming into our garden, that is, until recently. This robin has been nesting in a large tree in our neighbour's garden but it comes and sits on our trellis and the branches of a small tree right next to where we sit by the pond. It bobs up and down and sings away whilst looking down on us. The cats, you will be pleased to hear, just lie there showing absolutely no interest whatsoever. This morning it sat on the trellis, singing away and I could see it had something in its mouth. I went to get my camera imagining it would be gone by the time I got back, but no it was still there singing away when I got back. I have cropped it as I wanted to see what it had in it's beak but it is SOC otherwise. It looks like a real smörgåsbord of insects
