I have seen perhaps 4-5 during the 2020/21 owl season but, owing to their elusiveness, have been unable to photograph one in its winter coat since 2019.
Our incorrectly named big hare can weight as much as 9.5 pounds at maximum and has powerful hare back legs. Their bouncing running style with stiff upright posture makes them great to watch in motion, especially in winter white.
have a nice weekend

If you'd like to see more of my images, go to schockenphotography.com. I have many more images of eagles and other raptors as well as owls, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, songbirds and mammals and I have a full section on birds in flight which is my specialty.
They have a highly audible song for such a small bird. It took several minutes before I could locate him as he sang a few phrases from one place, and then started again in another location. Luckily for me, he flew down to an open perch very close where he sang and raised his crown.
It was a bright overcast backlight situation. I was close enough to get detail though, and I really like the way those red crown feathers were lighted from behind.
If you have never heard its song, Check the link below.

We have only had two snowfalls this winter in the Halifax area which is so unusual. We had about 6 inches night before last and today it was 13 C and sunny. So crazy. Hope the weather is good where you are! Freezing rain forecast for tomorrow. I am mostly on facebook these days but I really miss the great photos on flickr. www.facebook.com/nancy.rose.1042

I will always try to reciprocate with a visit back to your stream
These rocks have been smashed by waves like this ever since Bass Strait was flooded at the end of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago. And we worry about miniscule rates of sea level change and tiny increases in temperature.
[Don't forget to enlarge this one to see the sea birds.]
We have dark-eyed junco in Victoria pretty much all year long.... not sure where they go in the Summer but they seem to take a holiday away from our backyard... this being said.... I am not going to hide the fact that I would not mind if our junco population on the Island was split half and half... 50% Dark-eyed Junco and 50% Yellow-eyed Junco... or any other combination of the 50-50 split.
Sometimes we have to go to our dark place to endure our pain.

There are photos that give me inspiration and I want to make sure to credit that beauty back to the other artists, in hopes that they will find some new followers. These photo normally move me, make me smile, or simply say wow!

Many thanks to all those who view, fav & comment my pictures. I very much appreciate it.
Have been trying to get a shot of this beautiful bird for years. Finally found one. Taken in Colorado.
Have to admit the D700 struggles just a bit with dynamic range in a scene like this -- probably the reason multiple-exposure HDR became popular about 10 years ago, when this generation of cameras was state-of-the-art. No worries, it's still become my favorite camera to shoot with.
I hope all are having a great week.
