Male Twelve Spotted Skimmer, this is my favorite dragonfly of all! I found this one at my aunt's pond yesterday.

Zoos have evolved over the years to make the life of an animal less and less traumatic, although it is still a prison for entertainment. Unlike those parks where the work to preserve species and recover those at risk of extinction seems to me to be an extremely important social and environmental job. Seeing that there are still zoos where you see that it is simply a prison makes me sad and angry, seeing the aggressive attitude of many animals in these zoos already gives you an idea of the discomfort they feel there and in those conditions. I have mixed feelings, but I am clear that if they gave me the option to choose, I would release them all. I dedicate this series to all those animals that in one way or another live in a prison, or simply have their freedom stolen from them.

A beautiful day in Pai, Thailand.

Enjoy the fireworks and be safe out there ... I can't believe we're about to roll over into 2018!

Having fun at the Tauphaus Park Zoo. Lots of fun lines here, hope you like it! No texture added.

Jack: Did, curl his hand around hers when she put her own hand in his.. his gaze lowered to watch the contact between them, a squeeze given, but the grip was weaker than how he might have normally held her. "I don't want to feel this way.... I'm trying here.. I'm trying to think of any good reason... " he was possessive, she knew that and it was one of his flaws but a flaw she'd accepted him for a long time ago; So the thought that for a moment however brief he didn't possess her, that she didn't belong to him was a hard one to swallow. "I'm trying Lex.. if my heart didn't still belong to you... you'd have already been kicked out of that door... I want forgive and forget... help me do that... help me fall for you again... that's gonna take time... "

Alexis: felt that weak grasp and slight pulse of a squeeze. It wasn't much, but it something and right now...she'd take whatever she could get from him. While none of it was her intentions, she'd found herself persuaded into that stupid theory that the grass was greener on the other side and damn if that wasn't a lesson hard learned, but nevertheless....learned, burned, and embedded into her brain. It was horrible to see someone that you cared about, loved with every beat of your heart, hurting. It was even worse when you were the reason for their pain. She never wanted to hurt him and sure that was something easier said now, than stopped before it even happened. But, as pathetic as a excuse, as it might have been...she was human. A guy, someone completely different than what anyone would have ever expected for her..caught her attention and held it briefly. But...as the saying goes... Treat her like a Queen, she'll treat you like her King...treat her like a game...She'll show you how it's played... Jack...Jack had always made her feel like a Queen. Sure they had their ups and downs..but she knew who spoke to her soul.. he wasn't a 'fun time'....he was a 'long time'. "I promise you..." she whispered, as he gave her head a little more of a notable squeeze. "I won't let you give up on us...I won't give up on you...I am where I belong...I know that now more than ever and I'm so sorry that it took this for me to reopen my eyes and realize what I've nearly lost for absolutely nothing..." She felt that way, lost. She had been completely lost, while in Cali. Lost touch of who she really was and what she actually deserved. But after a few childish mishaps and dealing with a narcissist who was sure he could find better. She woke up and realized her worth and that sure as hell wasn't it. "Jack...sometimes two people have to fall completely apart, before they can fall back together..." quietly she'd edge herself up near his lap and attempt to curl her arms around him in silence.

We have a saying in Italy: "Rosso di sera, bel tempo si spera" which means: Red in the evening, fine weather hopefully arriving.

Yes I have been saving this one for Halloween…The Headless Eagle!

Not quite as scary as The Headless Horseman, but much more lethal than a flying monkey…so there you go!

Oh yea, he is just preening his back...no photoshop used!

Happy Halloween to all!

I have been writing a book about humorous tales of cycling around Kent and the many beautiful wild orchids seen on the way. Disappointingly my publisher has been influencing and shaping my writing towards a book concentrating about male obsessions. We have parted company but this has left me with a script that I no longer recognise and as I read my words leaves a sour taste. This will never do and is preventing me produce the light hearted, hopefully entertaining piece I wanted it to be. So today, I pressed the big delete button on my keyboard and away it went! I now have some time to sit and regather my thoughts, regroup and to start again from scratch. Autumn evenings and winter nights are not far away and due to house clearing and redecorating our office/library is back up and running, a lovely, quiet room to work. So, with invigorated interest its eye's down and the "funny gland" excreting on full flow, its time to start again!

I have finally finished doing the embroidery on my applique quilt - now to have it professionally quilted. It has been a work in progress for quite a while. Each little piece had to been drawn on paper backed fusible web, cut out and ironed on the wrong side of the fabric and then cut out again and ironed onto each block. There was over 150 leaves which shows how much work is involved. I then blanket stitched around each piece before embroidering on the flowers and other pieces. Once it is quilted I can then add all the little buttons to the quilt and it is finally finished. I really enjoy applique, but had to fit it in with my bear making.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado.

"The state of Colorado planted Yellowstone cutthroats exclusively until sometime after 1974 (Beckman 1974). Since then, Snake River cutthroats have also been stocked in the state (Walker 1993). Both species have been stocked in the same drainages (Walker 1993)." nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/FactSheet.aspx?speciesID=890

According to the Colorado Division of Wildlife: "The rugged topography of their range has lead to isolation, which in turn has given rise to fourteen recognized subspecies. Four of these evolved in Colorado: the Colorado River cutthroat trout in drainages west of the continental divide, Greenback cutthroat trout in the South Platte and Arkansas River drainages, and the Rio Grande cutthroat trout in streams that drain into the San Luis Valley. In addition, the yellowfin cutthroat trout was historically found in Twin Lakes at the headwaters of the Arkansas drainage. Unfortunately, this predator that grew to over 10 lbs, is now extinct. All three remaining species have either been petitioned to be listed or are currently listed under the Endangered Species Act."

Regarding the Yellowstone CUtthroat, according to Wikipedia: "Native only to a few U.S. states, their original range was upstream of Shoshone Falls on the Snake River and tributaries in Wyoming, also across the Continental Divide in Yellowstone Lake and in the Yellowstone River as well as its tributaries downstream to the Tongue River in Montana.[1] The species is also found in Idaho, Utah and Nevada.[2]"

Weather conditions have not been ideal for the entire day, zero light at sunset, very nice blue hour full of dark clouds (picture next week!), and then just completely overcast. I went for a short nap and I decided to wake up again around midnight to check the sky. The conditions were not ideal but it was much better than I expected. This is the only lucky shot I managed to take at the Milky Way since a strong wind was blowing clouds just to the center of the Galaxy. After that I had to fight quite hard to get a decent shot of the foreground. The terrain was next to a lake and I was litterally sinking in water every movement I was making. These flowers are called Eriophorum (cotton-grass) and they are typical of the Artic Tundra or the north-west Alps (especially high in the Adamello National Park). I wanted these beauties rather than a simple reflection (which was anyway impossible due to wind). I had to make compromises with the dept of field because a long exposure of several minutes was impossible and so were for focus stacking shots, the wind just made everything tricky. After some attempts I got away with a clean shot at high iso and low f/. This is it, the night at 2600m in the wilderness of the Adamello National Park.

Here is a cute pair of Galahs, the male one is giving the female one a nice clean, the male is on the right and the female is on the left.

I have become increasingly interested in making my Pentax 6x7, which otherwise produces nice, sharp, "perfect" into something that makes imperfect images. Using it out of focus, with lenses turned around, with the lens turned right but not mounted fully, and in this case, with a homemade tilt-shift contraption. I borrowed a lens from an old RA4 printing machine because I needed something that would cover the 7 centimeter long Pentax negative and still have room for movements. It is basically the Lensbaby effect, which itself is basically the same tilt-shift effect large format photographers have enjoyed for decades. Unlike the Lensbaby, this method has a sharper plane of focus, which I prefer.

But yeah, as technical as it sounds, it really isn't. Auxiliary lens crammed onto camera body (recycled cloth bag for bellows) and away I go loose on the beach.

Mental note to self, do more of this.

have good one peeps. ;))

I have had the Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock State Park on the list of structures I've wanted to photograph for a while. I put togethe a jigsaw puzzle of it when I was a boy. Even then, it was an old jigsaw puzzle my grandmother had, so it gives you an idea of how old this structure is. You have to go to West Virginia to see it and we were lucky enough to be there when the leaves were turning. We have been fortunate enough these past couple of years to be in really nice parts of the country to see fall colors. This image will have to find it's way to a wall in our home. Who knows, maybe I'll have a jigsaw puzzle made of it for us and others to enjoy. Photo by Steve Coyle Photography (www.stevecoylephotography.com)

We have been so conditioned to see water spraying up around the golden guy statue that it is odd to see all of this appearing to be a dry and barren wasteland. I hope all of the work in fixing it up and replacing the water is worth it.

.have you found what you're looking for?

I should scribble on myself more often. Makes for an easy sp. ;-)

Well. I had a long day, and it's sweaty and warm here in Yamhill County today. (blegh)

Hope everyone else is doing well, and I'm slowly working my way through all your streams.

Feels like everyone is finishing their 365's, btw. What's that about....am I gonna be that loser that's still "doing" what no one else is "doing" anymore???

How typical. heh.

Random Fact du jour: I have a love/hate relationship with beer.

I love it, and I hate that it prevents me from being that size 3 that I would otherwise be.

Have a wonderful day!(^!~)...:)
