So of course, I don’t have a willing model. GP hates me taking his photo - it’s a throwback to when his dad would line up the four kids to practice his portrait photography I am sure. Our little dog of course has now long gone to the rainbow bridge (still sad face) and, he too, hated me taking his photo.
The Lensbaby is a manual focus system so this was a hit and miss for me with the sweet 35 in the composer pro at f2.5 and natural light in the kitchen from the window. Arms stretched out I took the shot.
I don’t mind it so much. I see my dad looking back at me in this and that makes it easier for me to look at and like LOL.
I really need a haircut and I need to practice this more with the Lensbaby system especially in taking self portraits. I tried reading how people take self portraits with the system but have not figured it out. I am not giving up.

Having been once again in a creative rut, and faced with a three hour train journey this morning, I put some serious thought into planning a photograph - and this was one of the resulting ideas.
It evolved somewhat as I went along, but the idea was always to have plain, dull old water entering the lens and coming out as some kind of rainbow jamboree. I was wondering if I could use milk coloured with food dyes, but in the end a lack of a) milk and b) food dye scuppered that plan short of a trip to the shop, so instead I used my shower head to create the water drop effect shown here, taking two photos of the shower using a large softbox and a speedlight on 1/16 power for each.
I then photographed the lens, using my Nikon 105mm f/4 Micro, and the same softbox in the same position relative to the camera, though on 1/2 power.
The rest was photoshop of the painstaking but straightforward variety; cutting out the grey background I'd set up around the lens, overlaying this on the shower head and colouring the droplets using filters (individually...). I'm happy with the result!
Life should have gone so much better last night. Gremlins. I only got RGB data and only 15 minutes of each. Had much bigger plans for last night. Seeing was much worse that predicted and that makes focusing and guiding crazy hard.

Having been trapped in Tolono for hours, CN A407s crew is anxious to get going thanks to the delay. All the switching and the crew change was done in just over an hour, and before long, the SD70 duo was moving north out of Leverett Junction. There’s no two ways about it, they’re going for speed on this run.
Having just left the Halifax station, VIA/CNR #11, the "Scotian" to Montreal, departs with 7 cars behind an FPA4, F7b. At this time CNR had two trains in each direction between Halifax and Montreal.

Having experienced a fairly quiet spell at the feeders in my garden of late there has now suddenly been an explosion of activity with all the newly fledged youngsters finding the free handout available to them.
The great tits seem to have had a successful spring and their young by far outnumber any other species offspring at my feeders this year.
Its interesting to see how each year differs and I seem to remember last year the coal tits and blue tits did best.
I also have a young male great spotted woodpecker visiting the peanut and fat ball feeders currently which is good as I hadn't seen an adult visit for months.
Having been held at Dalmally for over an hour awaiting the next Oban bound unit, 73968 is then seen passing Dalrigh (between Tyndrum and Crianlarich) on 25.03.17, while working the 5Y11 10.30 Oban - Polmadie Caledonian Sleeper ECS. 73967 was on the rear.
