Y'all must think I spend all my time in my bathroom. Can you blame me? I have The Atlantic Monthly, q-tips, Thomas Merton's "Seeds of Contemplation", and lavender sea salt scrub. What more could a woman want?
Small 2-tray beam-type handheld balance scale. In wooden case with strap hinges and line with felt on the bottom. Case contains 6 loose counterweights marked with mass. Pans are brass, 1 3/4" diameter, supported by 3 strings each, 3" long, to the metal balance beam. Used by Dr. Birnbaum and found inside his desk.

At last on the 2nd time of looking I have seen the light. Excuse the rough pictures, these are handheld and on a moving boat. But at least I have now seen one of nature's beautiful light shows. The phenomenon is caused by electrically charged solar particles , high in energy, entering the Earth's atmosphere. They occur mainly in Arctic regions.
