As the photographer in the family, I have been given the job of photographing items to be sold on the family business website www.thegeniescave.co.uk or tinyurl.com/jmjs4j6 on eBay. There is quite a bit of variety (if you think about what might be found in a cave belonging to a genie!) and I quite enjoy doing it.
This image was taken using a small light tent illuminated by a pair of halogen lamps of the type commonly found in bathroom or kitchen ceilings.

I recently aquired a reichert reflected light wafer inspection microscope. One of my biggest beefs with these otherwise amazing scopes is the light source. The huge hot nasty yellow orange tungsten halogen bulb is a real drawback. I replaced the bulb with a Cree XM-L high power white LED which can sink up to 3A (though my current supply can only source 2A).
I think the only real drawback is the dome lens which would make a great lamp, but a lousy directional light. Still, I can't complain the thing is crazy bright.

Looking at the other submissions so far, I am a little hesitant, because now I think I went in a wrong direction. Well, I guess you all will let me know :-)

WIT: Set up the budget halogen on the dinner table and used a tripod with remote and self timer. Tried different poses and I felt this one was the most subtle, although everyone I have showed it to immediately realized what I was doing....maybe it isn't so subtle :-)
Taken for a macro challenge with the theme "New" for the new year, these lights were newly aquired to replace two old ones that had blown.
One of our quartz halogen projector work lights burned out - or more precisely, it got bumped, and the glass tube cracked. It snapped open at one end, and created an iridescent effect on the surface of the element. I'm assuming that as the air entered the crack in the tube, it reacted with the metal in the element, which was in the process of cooling off. So as the oxygen made its way down the tube it reacted with first with very hot metal, and then as it progressed, it met with cooler and cooler metal, creating a rainbow spectrum of colors, which then got jumbled up as the wound-up metal element broke free and unwound itself, bunching up in the middle.

The uncorrected halogen image shows an orange or red color cast.
In these demo shots, I used three different light sources, as indicated by the image titles. The upper left corner shows the RAW image without any color correction. The upper right corner shows the JPG, corrected by using the grey dropper in curves, clicked on the WhiBal card. The lower left corner shows the color corrected RAW image, correct by using the grey dropper in Camera RAW, click on the Digital Grey Kard. The lower right corner shows the color corrected RAW image, correct by using the grey dropper in Camera RAW, click on the WhiBal card.
The camera handled daylight fairly well using Auto White Balance, but either grey card gives a tremendous improvement under artificial light.
Since you do not have the original subjects for comparison, you can not really evaluate the final images, but in my opinion, the WhiBal may be a slight improvement over the Digital Grey Kard. The DGK gives a very slight red tint when compared to the WhiBal card.
There may be other variables involved in this interpretation, such as monitor color, but that is my interpretation of these tests.

The school auditorium at night. The auditorium was lit by distant street lights. The mix of halogen and fluorescent street light resulted in the yellow and white portions.
The funny story is that we had to call the guard to get the lights on the building turned off. And we wondering what the guard would be thinking when we said - "Can you please turn off the lights? We want to take photograph." The guard was probably thinking what kind of nut turns of light to take photos, don't you usually turn on all the lights. :) Since the street lights messed up the shot (the yellow and white portions), we were thinking of going again after the street lights are turned off. But I never got out again to try this shot...
This plot shows the measured transmission curves for two types of infrared photographic filters:
Thick solid lines: Heliopan Schott glass (a/r coated) filters (RG715 and RG780)
Thick dashed lines: Neewer glass (uncoated) filters (IR720, IR760, IR850 and IR 950)
Also plotted (thin continuous lines) are the relative irradiances of an overcast sky, a Xenon photo-flash and an unfiltered tungsten halogen lamp with a colour temperature of around 3000K.
These (with the exception of the RG780) are the filters used for the preceeding set of IR images.
