This is my entry for the Feeling Stitchy Rainbow Competition. I chose to design an embroidery in shades of orange, not only because orange is my favourite colour, but also because it would give me the opportunity to put Little Tiger into it! I based the Little Tiger you see here on a brooch that I made some time ago now. I also wanted to put in a representation of one of my favourite flowers, the California poppy. I love this flower for it's simple cupped shape, it's satiny petals and its beautiful bright golden orange colour which seems to glow in the sun. I think of them as "cups of sunshine"!
After I had sketched my design, I had to think about what fabric I'd use to embroider on. I decided that a plain background was a bit boring, so I hand tie-dyed a piece of calico to use, using Dylon "sunflower yellow" - hence the off-white circles of the background. The circles were created by gathering a bunch of fabric and tying a piece of string around it, so the dye doesn't reach the fabric under the string, and repeating this all over the fabric so make a pattern. I like this effect because for me, it makes me think of sun-drenched, relaxed summer festivals.
I chose to include lots of different types of stitches - and I used eight - because for me, that's what embroidery is all about! Showing the amazing variety of textures and shapes which can be created with just a needle, a bit of thread and some fabric. I love trying out new stitches, so I dived in (after a bit of practise first) and used long and short stitch (for the poppy petals) and ribbed spider's web (for the flower-like shapes in the "grass"). I also used straight stitch in a pattern I've never used before, shown to me by my good friend Claire (thanks Claire! bet you didn't expect that, did you! hahaha!) I also used stem stitch (the sun's rays), french knots (the sun and Little Tiger's eye "twinkles"), satin stitch (his eyes and nose), chain stitch worked in close rows as a filling stitch (Little Tiger's fur) and back stitch (the poppies' stems).
Apart from enjoying this challenge just for the embroidery, it taught me a few things. The main lesson was probably that I always underestimate how long a piece of work is going to take! I spent at least 50 hours on the embroidery part of this piece (excluding the time I spent in sketching the original design). I also learnt that you can do a lot with a very limited colour palette, and something that I am going to explore further.
Well, I enjoyed making this piece, but I hope you enjoy looking at it almost as much!

Suonare a un citofono, entrare nel buio e camminare per un chilometro in un tunnel dismesso, tra rottami e umidità.
Poi uscire e rivedere il sole e trovarsi davanti tre calette meravigliose. Di nudisti.

Io che in palestra ci vado già in tuta per non dovermi cambiare.
Io che mi imbarazzo per le altre donne nude nello spogliatoio e tengo gli occhi bassi, e arrossisco per loro appena incrocio gli occhi di Silvia che arrossisce per loro a sua volta.
Io, che spergiuravo di non fare topless se non agli antipodi, mi tolgo il pezzo sopra. A due passi da casa.
Poi mi rendo conto che, nell'insieme, più della nudità sono imbarazzanti certi due pezzi scoloriti dai troppi passaggi in lavatrice, le etichette che escono fuori dai boxer vicino all'inizio delle natiche, i residui di depilazioni sommarie, i costumetti sciatti e trasparenti. Il triangolo non abbronzato del mio perizoma alla fine della schiena sotto la coulotte a vita bassa.
Pago il mio personale tributo e per una mezz'ora faccio la nudista, compiacendomi per la capacità di adattamento ai fattori e alle circostanze, e mi beo dello stato edenico.
Poi, quando sbarcano due yankee in kayak, rigorosamente vestiti t-shirt+boxer, l'incantesimo si spezza e torno in due pezzi.

ENGLISH:
The Black Diamond (Danish: Den Sorte Diamant) is a modern waterfront extension to the Royal Danish Library's old building on Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen, Denmark. Its quasi-official nickname is a reference to its polished black granite cladding and irregular angles. Designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen, the Black Diamond was completed in 1999 as the first in a series of large-scale cultural buildings along Copenhagen's waterfront.
Apart from its function as a library, the building houses a number of other public facilities and activities, most of which are located around the central, toplit atrium which cuts into the building with a huge glazed front facing the harbour. The facilities include a 600-seat auditorium, the Queen's Hall, used for concerts—mainly chamber music and jazz—literary events, theatrical performances and conferences. There are also exhibition spaces, a bookshop, a restaurant, a café and a roof terrace. Two museums are based in the Black Diamond, the National Museum of Photography and a small museum dedicated to cartoon art.

A 10% tornado risk day when the SPC maps were out early in the morning on this day. Models had favorable for late afternoon severe storms to erupt right on the Nebraska Kansas Border.
Had been chasing storms past few days and the wear on the body was at hand. With this rare opportunity in 2020, a year of no tubes, we didn't want to miss this tornado event in my backyard if it happened. Sucked up the tiredness and snagged my chase partner in Hastings Nebraska and headed south into North Central Kansas. The prime of the predicted storm zone for that afternoon.
After the first storms initiation, we were watching out west with good development to our west... Mankato Kansas. Everything was moving almost due northeast that afternoon and we thought we could cut north and follow the storm cell that had the most promise of development.
On target and in position to intercept just to the south of Reynolds Nebraska we had our first Tornado of the year. Incredible bands of winds around this tornado was kicking up so much dust that it was almost haboobish.
After this encounter we headed back to the northeast to intercept again then back down to Nebraska Hwy 136 to Beatrice. All in all, we followed that same system till it merged with another cell. We followed the system eastward as the warnings stayed active. We did see a few wall clouds and funnel bases that afternoon but nothing as good as what we caught in Reynolds Nebraska. Not a bad way to end another epic storm chasing day!

Always good storm chasing stories to tell about my weather adventures in 2014.
Days right after my knee replacement... Home from the hospital & I definitely wasn't supposed to be out and about. Knee was almost in a cast and I wasn't supposed to be doing anything to aggravate the situation. Though my quest for severe weather never ends and I wasn't going to miss another possible chase especially when its in my backyard. This storm was going to be a photogenic monster... Decision was made & off I went.
Back @ home. I waddle out to the front driveway & look due east. There are always thunderheads with storms. If your lucky enough to witness one that are simply jaw dropping your indeed lucky. Today was that day.

Personal Note *** On the original set Back in 2014 I had use the free Avery photo editor here Flickr and it wasn't the best but I had no prior knowledge of editing them back then. Only shot in .jpg format and I didn't do the best by over coloring and over saturation. Was very under experienced in photo editing back then.
Another epic set of thunderstorm captures from South Central Nebraska remastered through Lightroom and Photoshop. Though I paid for it with my knee just being replaced. I was super sore and the swelling was unreal a few days after this event. All worth it when it comes to what epic views I caught storm chasing on that particular day!

Well, I did take a long break off from Flickr. I've had some downtime over the past few months. Had Surgery, and it was bad and required. I have been on the mend.
Wanting to be physically healthy enough for the 2018 storm chasing season, I have recovered healthier than I have been in the past 10 years.
So something came over me just recently, as winter is now chaining over to spring here in Nebraska. I've had an itch to get out and do some photography.
So with not a cloud in the sky, lol, I decided to blow the dust of the camera case and catch this sunset. It had been cloudy for the past few days. That deep spring grey gloom. Cold winds etc. The sun finally peaked out @ sunset, and I couldn't resist the ambient light.
So your seeing something rare from me. I vary rarely post pure sunset images. I wanted to have a warm up before my first storm chase in 2018, which is just days away.

Hi-School Romance was a teen romance comic that ran from 1949 to 1958. The years following World War II saw the rise of dating as we know it today, with teenagers being given a great deal of freedom to meet each other without constant adult supervision. This is a true product of that time, full of malt shops, sock hops and double-dates. In it, starry-eyed schoolgirls do their best to win the man of their dreams. To accomplish this, however, there was always some obstacle to overcome, whether it meant fighting off a rival or merely learning how to play the game of love better.
What may be most remarkable about this series is noting how much has changed between men and women in the last few decades—as well as how much has stayed the same.

I was very touched by this sculpture of a tiny human. I wanted to reach out and touch it but I knew it would be cold, the opposite of what it represents. A tiny, delicate yet cast iron baby is curled up on the pavement. It is so small it is easily missed. This sculpture, by Antony Gormley, is based on the artist's six day old daughter and our 'precarious position in relation to our planetary future'.

Ya que estamos buscando las huellas de Dios,
debemos buscar la voluntad de Dios,
buscar Sus palabras y Sus declaraciones,

Porque donde están Sus nuevas palabras,
ahí está Su voz, la voz de Dios.

Mientras buscabais Sus huellas,
ignorasteis las palabras “Dios es la verdad, el camino y la vida”.
Por lo que, cuando muchas personas reciben la verdad,

y mucho menos reconocen la aparición de Dios.
¡Qué grave error es este!
Su aparición no se puede reconciliar con las concepciones del hombre,
y mucho menos aparecer por orden del hombre.
Cuando hace Su obra, Él toma Sus decisiones,
toma Sus decisiones y hace Sus propios planes;
además, Él tiene Sus propios objetivos,
Sus propios métodos, Sus propios métodos.
No es necesario que discuta con los hombres cuando Él hace Su obra,
que busque el consejo del hombre,
y mucho menos notificar a todo el mundo.
Ese es el carácter de Dios, todos lo deben de reconocer.
III
Si queréis ser testigos de la aparición de Dios,
si queréis seguir las huellas de Dios,
entonces debéis primero trascender vuestras opiniones.
No debéis demandar que Dios haga esto o aquello,
mucho menos debéis situarlo dentro de vuestros confines,
o limitarlo a vuestras opiniones.
En cambio, debéis preguntar
cómo debéis buscar las huellas de Dios,
y aceptar Su aparición,
y cómo os debéis someter a la nueva obra de Dios.
Eso es lo que el hombre debe hacer,
lo que el hombre debe hacer.
Ya que el hombre no es la verdad,
no está en posesión, en posesión de la verdad,
el hombre debe buscar, aceptar y obedecer.

Honfleur is a commune in the Calvados department in Normandy en.normandie-tourisme.fr/normandy-tourism-109-2.html in northwestern France. It is located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Seine across from le Havre and very close to the exit of the Pont de Normandie. Its inhabitants are called Honfleurais. It is especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur (Honfleur school) which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest church made out of wood in France. The first written record of Honfleur is a reference by Richard III, Duke of Normandy, in 1027. By the middle of the 12th century, the city represented a significant transit point for goods from Rouen to England. Located on the estuary of one of the principal rivers of France with a safe harbour and relatively rich hinterland, Honfleur profited from its strategic position from the start of the Hundred Years' War. The town's defences were strengthened by Charles V in order to protect the estuary of the Seine from attacks from the English. This was supported by the nearby port of Harfleur. However, Honfleur was taken and occupied by the English in 1357 and from 1419 to 1450. When under French control, raiding parties often set out from the port to ransack the English coasts, including partially destroying the town of Sandwich, in Kent, England, in the 1450s. At the end of the Hundred Years' War, Honfleur benefited from the boom in maritime trade until the end of the 18th century. Trade was disturbed during the wars of religion in the 16th century. The port saw the departure of a number of explorers, in particular in 1503 of Binot Paulmierde Gonneville to the coasts of Brazil. In 1506, local man Jean Denis departed for Newfoundland island and the mouth of the Saint Lawrence. An expedition in 1608, organised by Samuel de Champlain, founded the city of Quebec in modern day Canada. After 1608, Honfleur thrived on trade with Canada, the West Indies, the African coasts and the Azores. As a result, the town became one of the five principal ports for the slave trade in France. During this time the rapid growth of the town saw the demolition of its fortifications on the orders of Colbert. The wars of the French revolution and the First Empire, and in particular the continental blockade, caused the ruin of Honfleur. It only partially recovered during the 19th century with the trading of wood from northern Europe. Trade was however limited by the silting up of the entrance to the port and development of the modern port at Le Havre. The port however still functions today. The fires actually knocked down the sawgrass so I could show the topography of this area. Treacherous stuff, especially in flip-flops. =) One day i may learn. The regrowth was a nice bright green and caught the sun just before it went down.

Από τους ανθρώπους που ζουν μέσα στην οδύνη και έχουν υπομείνει χιλιάδες χρόνια διαφθοράς του Σατανά, ποιος δεν λαχταρά— δεν ποθεί — την άφιξη του Θεού; Πόσοι πιστοί και ακόλουθοι του Θεού ανά τους αιώνες υπέστησαν, υπό την επιρροή του Σατανά, βάσανα και αντιξοότητες, διώξεις και αποξένωση; Ποιος δεν ελπίζει ότι η βασιλεία του Θεού θα έρθει σύντομα; Αφού γευτεί τις χαρές και τις λύπες της ανθρωπότητας, ποιος άνθρωπος δεν επιθυμεί να πρυτανεύσει η αλήθεια και η δικαιοσύνη στους ανθρώπους;

Himno cristiano 2019 | Dios trata al hombre como a Su predilecto
I
Dios creó a la humanidad;
ya sea que se haya corrompido o si lo siguen a Él,
Dios trata a la humanidad como seres queridos,
o como el hombre diría, Sus predilectos.
La humanidad no es un juguete para Él.
II
Él es el Creador y el hombre, Su creación.
Y a pesar de esto,
lo que Dios hace por el hombre va más allá de su relación.
Dios ama a la humanidad,
la cuida y muestra al hombre Su preocupación.
Incansablemente, Él da a la humanidad,
nunca siente que sea un trabajo extra ni necesita reconocimiento.

Él no siente que salvar a la humanidad,
sustentarla y dárselo todo sea un gran tributo a ellos.
Es sólo que, a Su manera, Su esencia, lo que tiene y es,

No importa cuánto el hombre obtenga de Él,
Dios no pide reconocimiento.
Está determinado por Su esencia; es fiel a Su carácter.
