I've always been conflicted as to my feelings about Chinatowns, the hybrid nature of the environment throws me off in terms of how I want to capture it. Visually the space is very much like what I shoot when I'm back home in Hong Kong, it is dense, bright and textured. Yet the nature of the environment acts very much like the western city it is in, isolated, detached and common. It is exactly what it is, a recreation of one's natural habitat in a foreign land, a cultural theme park within a few city blocks.
Like a theme park, I find the familiar endearing and the differences absolutely annoying. Unable to accept the space for what it is, I complain about the things they aren't doing 'right', how it's done better back home, how this is just a mask of signs and lights thrown on to create an illusion of familiarity. I feel like a parent projecting their failures on to their children, how this space disappoints me as it doesn't live up to the standards I wish it can achieve.
When in fact, it is the fusion of the familiar with the odd that reminds me of the confused nature of my own identity. The ever difficult balancing act of assimilation into the culture of my adopted hometown, while desperately trying to hold onto whatever is left of my own. A visit to Chinatown reminds me of how futile my attempts are to remain Chinese while becoming American.
As I'm about to leave New York for another city, I've decided to confront this space, to stop trying to make it something it's not. To finally see it for what it is before trying to figure out another one. And in the process of understanding this hybrid space, maybe it'll allow myself to accept the fact that I've become what musically would be equivalent to a Canto Pop/Hip hop mashup. A set of opposing beats jammed together to form something that's confusing and fucked up, but has the potential to be quite interesting with some finessing.

Ο Θεός λέει: «Ας δούμε τι λέει το πρώτο χωρίο: “Και είπεν ο Θεός, Γενηθήτω φώς· και έγεινε φώς· και είδεν ο Θεός το φως ότι ήτο καλόν· και διεχώρισεν ο Θεός το φως από του σκότους· και εκάλεσεν ο Θεός το φως, Ημέραν· το δε σκότος εκάλεσε, Νύκτα. Και έγεινεν εσπέρα και έγεινε πρωΐ, ημέρα πρώτη” (Γέν. 1:3-5). Το χωρίο αυτό περιγράφει την πρώτη πράξη του Θεού στην αρχή της δημιουργίας και την πρώτη μέρα του Θεού στην οποία υπήρχε ένα απόγευμα και ένα πρωί. Αλλά ήταν μια εξαιρετική μέρα: ο Θεός άρχισε να ετοιμάζει το φως για όλα τα πράγματα και, επιπλέον, διαχώρισε το φως από το σκοτάδι. Εκείνη τη μέρα, ο Θεός άρχισε να μιλά και ο λόγος Του με τη εξουσία Του ήταν πλάι–πλάι. Η εξουσία Του άρχισε να ξεχωρίζει από όλα τα πράγματα και η δύναμή Του εξαπλώθηκε σε όλα τα πράγματα σαν αποτέλεσμα του λόγου Του. Όταν ο Θεός εκστόμισε τις λέξεις «Γενηθήτω φώς», έγινε φως. Ο Θεός δεν ξεκίνησε κάποιο εγχείρημα. Το φως εμφανίστηκε ως αποτέλεσμα του λόγου Του. Αυτό ήταν το φως, το οποίο ο Θεός ονόμασε μέρα και από αυτό εξαρτάται η ανθρώπινη ύπαρξη ακόμα και σήμερα. Επειδή το πρόσταξε ο Θεός, η υπόσταση και η αξία του δεν έχουν αλλάξει ποτέ και αυτό δεν εξαφανίστηκε ποτέ. Η ύπαρξή του αποδεικνύει την εξουσία και τη δύναμη του Θεού και διακηρύσσει την ύπαρξη του Δημιουργού, και επιβεβαιώνει ξανά και ξανά την ταυτότητα και τη θέση του Δημιουργού. Δεν είναι απροσδιόριστο, ούτε απατηλό, αλλά είναι ένα αληθινό φως, ορατό από τον άνθρωπο. Well its be close to a month since I've actually been out chasing. July 2019 in South Central Nebraska has been hot and dry... for the most part. Another reason for my absence is my trusty storm chasing truck is on her last leg. I've had transmission problems and the wheel bearings are going out on 2 of the tires. Its 20 years old and she has taken good care of me and my storm chasing adventures over the past. I'm going to have to retire her instead of putting more money into the till for her to get fixed. I have new truck being custom built for storm chasing in 2020. She has been ordered and will be picking it up in September.
Oh yeah... we have had severe storms in the State of Nebraska, both West and East throughout the month of July. By the time they would even get to our location in the South Central Region of the state....they were just rain showers. More flooding rains to the east a about a week ago 3rd time for some of the folks in the state. I'm sure the farmers are not to happy and are waiting for harvest to start.
So with that being said...I did get out just once in July. On a night that the storms were perking and it was late. Extremely tired but you all know when it comes to lightning, I don't miss a beat! Opportunities are rare this time of year and I really never miss a storm. Especially if it is close! I couldn't resist!

The Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) is a large, long-legged, long-billed shorebird first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. It is a member of the Limosa genus, the godwits. There are three subspecies, all with orange head, neck and chest in breeding plumage and dull grey-brown winter coloration, and distinctive black and white wingbar at all times.
Its breeding range stretches from Iceland through Europe and areas of central Asia. Black-tailed godwits spend winter in areas as diverse as the Indian Subcontinent, Australia, western Europe and west Africa. The species breeds in fens, lake edges, damp meadows, moorlands and bogs and uses estuaries, swamps and floods in winter; it is more likely to be found inland and on freshwater than the similar Bar-tailed Godwit. The world population is estimated to be 634,000 to 805,000 birds and is classified as Near Threatened due to a decline in numbers of around 25% in the previous 15 years.
Godwits from the Icelandic population winter mainly in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and the Netherlands, though some fly on to Spain, Portugal and perhaps Morocco. (wikipedia)
The bird depicted is the islandica race of Black-wits that breed in Iceland and winter in Ireland. In 2004, the population size of Icelandic Black-tailed Godwits was estimated to be around 47,000 individuals. Given the continued expansion since then, it is likely that there are now around 50-60,000 Icelandic Godwits. In a site in Cork Harbour called Harper's Island Wetlands, up to 2,000 of these beautiful birds may be found in winter, making this an internationally important wintering site for this species.

Devocional cristiano de hoy | Al recibir al Señor, hay que evitar caminar por la senda de los fariseos
Hace 2000 años, los israelitas esperaban desesperadamente la venida del Mesías, pero cuando llegó Él, los fariseos lo clavaron en la cruz, al final Israel fue castigado por Dios, y esto llevó a la destrucción de Israel. Ahora ya estamos en los últimos días, y las profecías del regreso del Señor se han cumplido básicamente. El Señor se ha encarnado y se ha convertido en el Hijo del hombre para aparecer y obrar, Él es Cristo de los últimos días, Dios Todopoderoso. Dios Todopoderoso ha expresado millones de palabras y ha llevado a cabo una nueva obra. Pero, al oír la noticia del retorno del Señor, algunas personas se niegan a buscar e investigar, porque creen que todas las palabras y obra de Dios están en la Biblia, y no hay más Sus palabras y obra fuera de la Biblia. ¿Hemos pensado alguna vez si este punto de vista se conforma al hecho de la obra de Dios?
Juan 21:25 dice: “Y hay también muchas otras cosas que Jesús hizo, que si se escribieran en detalle, pienso que ni aun el mundo mismo podría contener los libros que se escribirían”.
El Señor Jesús profetizó: “Aún tengo muchas cosas que deciros, pero ahora no las podéis soportar. Pero cuando Él, el Espíritu de verdad, venga, os guiará a toda la verdad, porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y os hará saber lo que habrá de venir” (Juan 16:12-13).
El Apocalipsis profetiza: “El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las iglesias” (Apocalipsis 2:7).
De esto podemos ver que cuando el Señor venga en los últimos días, expresará nuevas palabras, así pues, ¿cómo podrían estas palabras ser registradas en la Biblia de antemano? Si pensamos que no hay palabras de Dios fuera de la Biblia, ¿cómo se pueden cumplir las profecías anteriores?
Dios Todopoderoso dice: “¿Quién es más grande: Dios o la Biblia? ¿Por qué debe obrar Dios de acuerdo con la Biblia? ¿Podría ser que Dios mismo no tuviera derecho de sobrepasar la Biblia? ¿No puede salirse Dios de la Biblia y hacer otra obra? ¿Por qué no guardaban el día de reposo Jesús y Sus discípulos? Si debía guardar el día de reposo y practicar según los mandamientos del Antiguo Testamento, ¿por qué no lo hizo Jesús después de venir, sino que en su lugar lavó pies, cubrió cabezas, partió pan y bebió vino? ¿No está todo esto ausente de los mandamientos del Antiguo Testamento? Si Jesús honraba el Antiguo Testamento, ¿por qué terminó con estas doctrinas? Deberías saber qué vino primero, ¡Dios o la Biblia! Si era el Señor del día de reposo, ¿no podría ser también el de la Biblia?”.
“El hecho que estoy explicando aquí es este: lo que Dios es y tiene es inagotable e ilimitado por siempre. Dios es la fuente de la vida y de todas las cosas. Dios no puede ser dimensionado por ningún ser creado. Por último, debo todavía recordar a todos: no delimitéis otra vez a Dios en libros, palabras o en Sus declaraciones pasadas. Hay una sola palabra para la característica de la obra de Dios: nueva. A Él no le gusta tomar caminos antiguos o repetir Su obra, y mucho menos quiere que la gente lo adore mientras que lo delimita a un cierto ámbito. Este es el carácter de Dios”.

Las palabras de Dios nos dicen con claridad que Él es la fuente del agua viva, que el contenido registrado en la Biblia es limitado y que Él no obra de acuerdo con la Biblia. Si pensamos que todas las palabras de Dios están en la Biblia y nos negamos a aceptar las declaraciones del Señor regresado, entonces ¿no nos convertiremos en personas que esperan el regreso del Señor Jesús pero se resisten a Su venida? En el momento crítico en que damos la bienvenida al Señor, ¿cómo debemos evitar repetir el camino de los fariseos y recibir al Señor cuanto antes? Here is a shot taken on a Sunday morning that just followed a snow storm. The Park is such a great place to enjoy a sunny walk in the snow and I wanted to show how peaceful this place is. I thought that it could be interesting to show the contrast between the wildness of the bushes in the foreground and the style of the building in the background. No technical challenge here, except waiting for a clear shot without anyone on the bridge.

Voici une photo prise un dimanche matin, juste après une tempête de neige. Le parc est un très bel endroit pour se promener au soleil dans la neige et je voulais retranscrire cette ambiance de calme au milieu de la ville. Je trouvais intéressante l’idée de jouer sur le contraste entre les buissons au premier plan et les immeubles à l’arrière plan. Pas de défi technique ici, mis à part la longue attente pour avoir un cliché sans personne sur le pont!
